  • Watch me attempt a Povitica from week 8 of British Bake Off. It is really tricky to make, but tastes great. Watch out for proving troubles and a gorgeous rum ganache!
Also, check this video out for how to roll it correctly, I had some trouble with mine. • Rolling the potica

This was Christmas with Gran for years. My city has a lot of Croatian heritage and If you're Catholic, this bread was at each holiday and the mavens who make it are hailed as masters. I really like how you kept it going til you could see the pattern through the dough. We have a cloth we use that has tiny flowers and you don't stop til you see it clearly like strudel. Great job and don't worry about the tears. It happens to everyone.

Hi Colin, I believe you're meant to roll it from the long side, that's why you couldn't double the u! :)

Also, you use the sheet to help roll it up. Once you flip the edge of the dough over, pick up the sheet and lift. The dough will roll over on itself. The quality of the following video is poor, but you can see what she's doing with it.

It should be pronounced "povi-TEE-tsa" (повитица in kyrillic-Serbian script).Whatever the name is, it still looks good. 😋

My Slovenian/Croatian family spells it as Povitica along with my entire city .... but there's like 8 dialects so its all up for grabs really. Agreed this is what it looks like minus the icing. It's only necessary if you make it too dry!
