- Gordon Durie scored a hat-trick but Brian Laudrup was the star of the show with an exceptional performance. Laudrup scored the first two goals of the game either side of half-time before setting up Durie for all three of his goals. John Colquhoun replied for Hearts but they were never in the game and were lucky not to finish with ten men after a shocking Paul Ritchie tackle on the outstanding Paul Gascoigne.

From south of the border and a utd fan this was some era for Rangers. Gascoigne and Laudrup absolute world class and the type of players youd gladly pay to watch and knew you where in the presence of genius.

as a Jambo...i sat in the hearts end that day til the death...for some reason i wanted to sit through this again...i always mind us hearing the team getting announced and thinking 'McCoist isnae startin'...and Durie is startin'....that'll do us like"....then Durie bags a hat-trick...Just shows you never know eh!!
It says a lot about Laudrup's performance that Durie got a hattrick and it's still known as the Laudrup Final.

Was a tough watch as a Jambo, seeing us humiliated in our first cup final for years. Especially since we'd, comfortably, beaten Rangers twice that season. Reckon it would have been a different story if we didn't lose our captain in the first few minutes: Could sense that the heads went down after Gary Locke got stretchered off. Once Rangers scored and Rousset got nutmegged for the second, I knew it wasn't going to be our day and so did the Hearts players. Fair play to Rangers though, they took full advantage and played us off the park.

Can't ever remember Laudrup having a bad game he was immense (even saw him yrs later in a legends match n he still had it btw!)

Worst part is, we had beaten Rangers at ibrox 3-0 and at tynie 2-0 in the build up to the final and thought we had a huge chance.....turns out we were wrong haha
please don't judge Gilles Rousset on this game, it was honour to have him in the Scottish game and i say this as a Rangers fan , he was a magnificent keeper

Laudrup indeed was inspiring at Rangers. I wanted him at Chelsea, he did join but didnt want to stay no matter what Ken Bates said. Laudrup wanted to go back home to Denmark so he did. I think he played only 7 times for Chelsea, but managed to grab a 1998 Super Cup medal! but overall definatly a shame for Chelsea he didnt stay longer. He would have done wonders on the wing with Franco,Di Matteo,Desailly etc.
Gascoigne & Laudrup ran the game but it was Durie who got his hat-trick.
He didn't really score many hat-tricks but that was certainly one to remember in the Scottish Cup final.

+supahdupahguy81 Durie got a hat trick but it was Laudrup who set up all his goals as well as scoring 2 himself. Not many players will score a hat trick and not be man of the match, but Laudrup was just sensational.
