- Here's a first look at Ghostbusters VR: Rise of the Ghost Lord, a game that launches on both PSVR2 and Quest 3 this October. In this multiplayer VR game you get to strap on a proton pack like in the movie and run your own Ghostbusters HQ together with your friends.

For a $50 game, I think you were way too soft on your critique. It looks they took a popular IP AND created a lazy cash grab.
Dont be afraid to be harsh when reviewing games. New VR gamers deserve a good experience for their first purchase. I'd adamantly steer people elseware if I were in your shoes.

It's almost exactly what I was expecting. I just didnt think it would only be arena style combat, I figured there would be actual levels that you progress through in a run.
With arena type levels it becomes a kind of wave shooter like Marvels United. What's so hard about creating levels that you progress through? One developer was able to do it for Vertigo 2. And I also suspect that it gets boring because there's no real difficulty. You go down and your friend revives you. That kind of no risk game gets old fast.
That's what really turns me off from a lot of VR games. I'm getting tired of area/rouge-likes, I want full story with different levels.
Tbh it will be fun like blades and sorcery

Not the Ghostbusters VR I was hoping for, that's for sure. I mean, just make Phasmophobia with more stylized ghosts, set in NYC and the ability to use Ghostbusters equipment, that's what I want. More of an investigative, creepy experience but with the GB movie style.
I think this mostly depends on what you are looking for. If you want a arcade vr party experience, you might enjoy this game but if you want an extremely realistic vr campaign, you might not enjoy this game as much.
It’s almost a full price game …that’s too much money for a repetitive party game

People are always mad “why vr?!” But honestly you’d never get the same feeling wrestling the ghosts on a flat screen. Using your hands to multitask in game is so fun.

If the devs call the proton pack a wand we maybe in trouble but I'm willing to give it a chance just want to see some quest 3 footage first or I'll get it for osvr 2 then. Or pc
Honestly, with all of the negative reviews, I am hyped for the game. I think it will be a fun game to goof around with other friends who are fans of the franchise while slinging traps and wrangling in ghosts with our particle throwers.

@@michelverheijen6643 No, it's mainly because I'm a huge Ghostbusters fan and the thought of shooting my particle thrower while throwing traps with friends as we wrangle in a Class V Full-Roaming Vapor just sounds fun.
@@michelverheijen6643 I mean, in every game we haven’t been able to drive ECTO, as you mentioned the commodore had it but from my memory we were only able to drive it in the old NES, C64 game. Also it is more of the fact just being able to wield the particle thrower and trap in person, why is it such a big deal that you must prove me wrong? I like it and you don’t, to each their own.

I was expecting something like After The Fall kinda gameplay (different levels to go through in co-op, earning cash to upgrade tools/weapons). I still enjoy After The Fall a lot after almost 2 years. How do you compare Ghostbusters with ATF looking at gameplay and replaying?

They planned dlc before releasing the game when it should have been part of the game to begin with.
Yeah we get it. You have no idea how production works and everything should be given to you for 60 bucks. Even though that price point itself is why they plan DLC. Entitles gamers are the worst.

Seems pretty damn expensive for what it is.
I've played this game, but it's quite repetitive. What this game needed was a story mode for several hours which should be played solo or with a team.
The multiplayer feels like something extra thrown in, but with this game that's all you get. With these kind of games you can play until the servers go down.. Story mode lives forever.
It won’t let me edit my comment but yeah it is a bummer that the game is what it is since a lot of the fans are older now since we grew up watching ghostbusters as kids. But that’s why I will also be purchasing it because it’s nostalgic and something to mess around and good off with with friends. Thanks again for the viddy bro!
Hmm it looks alright I guess. But yah it cou;d've been a lot more, with tense exploration in buildings and other environments, only to be confronted with an actual kindof scary ghost, as well as the fun ones like the slimer.
This seems a little too cartoony, andnot being to drive the Ecto one is such a missed opportunity. They should've started by modelling a partion of S where all the action takes place, have you be able to walk places and drive places, and take it from there.
Yeah visuals remind me of the old 80s cartoon of "The Real Ghostbusters" though even that had some designs that were pretty creepy

These environments need to be darker with some more of a creepy atmosphere, add in some of the classic iconic spooky background music from the movies.
new to vr here, why does the image "bounce" so much? is that normal or is it how he stands/looks around? very confused. I had an oculus developer kit but that was the last VR I've tried and it was NOT GOOD. I struggled with things like motion sickness or headaches. is that an issue now with modern vr? I want to get into vr but I'm worried I'll puke every time I boot a game up...
The image bounces because it's the POV of his headset. No person can stand perfectly still. So yes, it's how he stands and moves his head, and not the actual game. It's not like that in VR.
The Oculus Developer Kit had a screen resolution of 720p and had issues with refresh rate and comfort. It was simply a concept. The lenses were also low quality compared to today. Any modern VR headset is better than it. For comparison: Imagine modern VR as the PS4 and the Development Kit as the N64. It's a giant leap.
Motion sickness and headaches have been significantly reduced and now most people who are new can play comfortably. Most games even include comfort settings just in case.

They had it easy. They just had to take the remaster of the 2009 game and VR it, that's all they needed to do. They had it so easy, yet they screwed up so much.
If i dont find out what slimer hunt is then im afraid im going to cancel my pre order ;(
Is Greg Miller from Kinda Funny a party of this game? He has been a voice acter in the last couple of games.

Can quest 2 crossplay with psvr2. Or is it only quest 3 that crossplays? On this game.
The game looks cool and interesting especially since you can upgrade your gear however the $55 price point is what kills it for me, I just dont see this as a game that should be valued at that price range and like Nathie said with only 4 maps I can see where you can get board pretty quickly with it.
It's not 55 dollars that's the full containment edition it's normal edition is 35 plus tax

Depends how you like to play your games. The campaign was designed with multiplayer in mind so personally I would like to experience it that way. I don’t know what its like alone but I dont think its going to be as fun as joining up with 3 friends. Afterall this is a Ghostbusters game. Regarding DLC no one knows the exact details on this and how good this extra content will be.

Ghostbusters vr should’ve done something to be a competitor to phasmophobia. Would’ve been more interesting to have a proper ghost hunting system, or make it a vr version of the game with the original cast.

That’s what I thought as well. It would of been nice if you were able to choose your own ghostbusters outfit and headgear.

Was hoping for mechanic where you had to wrestle them into a trap before they try and escape the proton beam! But it looks like as long as you line it up they just drop straight in. Slightly disappointing. Another query - does your equipment overheat so you have to manage when to cooldown before trying to trap them?
if it overheats i think you press a button and it deals more damage or something
Thanks. For someone who liked the Ghostbusters video game (which was actually ghostbusters) this looks like a massive missed opportunity. The game costs way more than other quest games. Did the license cost so much there was little left. Speaking as someone who worked on many an IP game I get where this is coming from but it's so sad to see such an iconic IP so erm... re-invented. I was hoping for a good story with nods and easter eggs to the IP. This just looks dull and boring. Why have they taken all the fun out of it. Something is very missing and it could just be a standard ghost hunter game. Really disappointed. :( How to make me completely u turn on my excitement. Guess Stranger things will make the list and this will wait for a sale.
I feel like it was less they didn’t do what they could have, more that they weren’t comfortable with making more of a fully fledged experience, nDreams (as far as I can tell) is more used to making wave/arena based games.
The vr gear you use never use much movement and what you expect they have game that are short or bad graphics but the programmer take their time only to take complain from you guys i respect programmers for making a game like that you cant make a good pie without time and practice
it should have been a scary game with hints of humor here and there like a resident evil type of game. instead, this reminds me of Fortnite with proton beams.
Yes...everything I was worried about. Just another run out of the mill arena waveshooter. On top of the look there are not many things that feels "Ghostbusters". Sound was bit quiet but the whole video I didn't get a single Ghostbuster vibe. If going the cartoon look why not making it based on "The Real Ghostbusters" along with the iconic ghosts they had in the series. Definitly a pass for me on release.
Because they didn’t want to spend money on rights to those characters….that’s how game designers are nowadays…getting rich from selling crappy games for way to much money

I played the original 2009 ghostbusters video game, this looks somewhat similar not by graphics but by gameplay mechanics such as upgradable equipment and the damage crosshair.

Yea, not going to lie, I had a bad feeling about this game the second I saw it months ago. Just something about it screams mediocre at best to me. Going to be a pass for me.

I enjoyed After the Fall at launch with friends. Then I went back to it recently and it was dead. And not in a contextually appropriate manner.

No PC love? The PSVR2 is closer to PC capabilities than Q2. I guess they scaled the game down to cater to kids.
Not releasing on PC is a red flag.

There are not at all take usage of the real/full franchise (playing as Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler,... having "Slimer" as a kind of a buddy in the HQ.... WTF :-(

I’m a huge PSVR2 fan and have many games but for over $50 USD I’m going to pass…it’s too much money,looks repetitive and the graphics look like another lazy game designer was working for them and cares more about getting rich from mediocre games…nope..I’m gonna pass.
This is fine for a free to play experience, *BUT THIS IS A $50 GAME!* In my opinion, this is an unapologetic franchise cash grab.
Nathie, there are very good VR experiences for half the price. You really should be more assertive with your reccomendations. If this is the first experience for new VR owners they're gonna feel ripped of by VR.
Base game is more like $35. PSN discount, a bit lower.

Alright, if you're a die hard fan of Ghostbuster's, you know Spirit's Unleashed was a disgrace of a game and Bill Murray would agree, this is far worse looking than Spirit's Unleashed, this is sad to see game devs sell out to the Gen Z's..
What was wrong with Spirits Unleashed? I didn't play it for long (10-20 hours maybe) but I thought it had good atmosphere and authentic firehouse and Ray's Occult Books. The 4v1 was a neat idea - worked for me regardless of which side I was. Only thing...the upgrades didn't mean so much. There was a grapple hook, I think, but otherwise it's minor adjustments on the base kit.
@@sarahwhite7098 I agree that it's not terrible and proven to be fun, I clocked in a good amount of hours myself. It's the fact that there is a lack of maps losing replay value, being level 68 leaves not much to desire. The true Ghostbuster game/experience is the Ghostbusters Video Game, I played that like it's the third movie. I'm a huge fan of GB, so it's sad to never have a Ghostbuster game like it with even multiplayer adaption. Still, it'll never be the same without Ramis on the team..
@@ResTheRemixer Yeah I get you. I grew up in the 80s. My dad and I used to watch it regularly. He's not with us any more and when I saw Afterlife I was in floods at the story so close to home.
The Ghostbusters video game was great - it had multiplayer in it, but not the main missions as I recall. Had a sort of Gears of War feel probably because of the time. But retrod familiar locations and of course had the original characters.
I quite liked Spirits Unleashed because it felt pretty authentic to me - the kit, locations, firehouse. I'd prefer a campaign structure like Ghostbusters the video game but that developer specialises in 4v1 gameplay so it was always going to play like that. I agree about the replayability. I think that's where campaigns are stronger - whether it's good or bad the player has to play for a certain time to complete. But with games like Spirits Unleashed you stop when you get bored.
This looks awful. The 2009 Ghostbusters knocked it out of the park. I just can't understand why this game costs so much when the graphics are horrible and the ghost captured animations suck. This is a no go for me.

The core gameplay of catching ghost is way too boring as it should be. Even during your stream it didn't generated any wow moment...Sad disappointment. Lazy cash grab as other people mentioned in the comments. Screw this.
