I became a fan of Zydeco music in around 1983,....I was pleased that Clifton Chenier regularly played in my city,....Columbus, Ohio, almost ever summer. We had a series of concerts that he was booked into. When he was too old to play, his son took over. His son is CJ Chenier continued to perform. That was a long time ago, now in 2024. I still love this kind of music.
The King of Zydeco....The first time I heard a Clifton Chenier track.. I was a fan. That was many years ago..1983 ... still listen to him from time to time today... in my humble opinion.. he is the best I have heard.
I saw Clifton Chenier in lake charles la when i was a preteen. He was in the. Back of a truck singing and playing zydeco music on the street that my aunt lived on. My mom and dad where both born and raised in Louisiana.
Thank you for the info about Clifton Chenier. My dad and a couple of his brothers practiced playing zydeco when they were boys. My dad was 9 at the time and Mr. Chenier was older. They were neighbors. My dad played the washboard. In fact, my dad who is 89 and a half is staying with me temporarily for home hospice. I was cleaning his nails and playing zydeco music from my phone and this one showed up so thank you very much for this.
I am a musician and though I was born in north Louisiana, I have come to call Lafayette and acadiana my adoptive home. I can’t quite put into words how acadiana has come to capture my heart, but zydeco is a huge part of it. And so is Herman fusilier and the Zydeco stomp every Saturday at noon. Without fail.
Great Work had the pleasure of meeting & talking with King Clifton in Chicago about 35-40 years two years in a row when he played at Fitzgeralds a music club in Berwin just outside Chicago. Bon Tomp Roulette !
Hi Brandi, "bravo" for your documentary. I am surprised a young girl could love this kind of music. Personnally, I am fond of blues, and generally speaking all american folk music, but I am 59. So, bravo again ;)
Brandi ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Powerful introduction to an exceptional singer and character . I watch this one every year. Queen Ida is also brilliant . This is the soul music that crosses all barriers 🇦🇺
Nice project. I tried to see Clifton Chenier every time he came to Austin. You didn't just go to hear his band - you went to dance. The dance floor was always packed. The last time I saw him, he was laying on a cot while singing and playing because he was so sick. I couldn't actually see him until the band went on break and the dance floor cleared and I saw somebody help him up. What a trooper! He wanted to make sure his band got paid.
I'm starting to play Zydeco dance music in NZ the English versions that is, and I find myself wishing that all of the french tracks singing could be translated over as there is a lot of great tracks in French which could be shared with non french speaking people who love their Zydeco music! I know a lot of people would roll their eyes at trying to retain the essence of the song in English!
I'm confused. Clifton Chenier's dad was born in 1917 and Clifton was born in 1925 which means his dad was 8 years old when he became Clifton's father. What makes this even more perplexing is that Clifton's brother, Cleveland, was already 5 years old.

He was the King of Zydeco and was regal in his persona away from the stage. An impressive man. Slim
