    ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city s a Police Officer and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 1200 breeding ewes.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Since starting The Sheep Game I have met Lizzy and had two incredible boys Jock and Angus. You will see them all on this channel!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

The other day my kids and I took our dogs out to one of our favorite places to run the dogs. We have never seen any livestock out there before, but that day there was someone with a mob of sheep. I thought of your dog issues and we immediately went somewhere else.

I mean this in a positive way, thank you for showing things that don’t go to plan. It’s my first year lambing and it’s been one problem after another. Seeing people post only the good stories doesn’t do much for the old mindset!

My dad was a banty rooster Irishman, and a consummate practical joker. One spring I had strung a high tinsel 3 strand wire electric fence around our three pastures. This was before we had let the cattle on the new green grass. The barnyard fence was hot. I had what was called a 100 mile fence, HOT, it would burn off a thistle stem as thick as my thumb. Anyway my brother-in-law came down to help me stretch the last section and tie it into the hot line of the barn yard
He turned off the fencer and we stretched the wire, when I hooked it to the barnyard line, the shock knocked us both to the ground. I looked at him accusingly! He just held up his hands saying he turned it off, but would check it again. Coming back he said he unplugged it , and grounded the output. We stretched the wire again and were again knocked onto our keesters. This time though we caught our father slipping around the corner of the barn laughing uncontrollably! At the time it was hard to see the humor in this, but looking back 40 some years I can laugh about it.😊😂😅

Bless your heart, Cammie. You show the good and the not so good but that’s real life. So glad to hear you hired an editor. Work smarter not harder. But when that fence bit you, I was snorting laughing. I’ve done that and it’s not pleasant. I was crying while laughing, I needed that but felt sorry for you at the same time. Hugs and blessings to you and the family as lambing season begins from southeast USA.

"That's how I learned as a boy" (proceeds to get a good shock!). I will never forget being an 8 year old city kid visiting my cousin's farm. I just didn't believe him when he said the fence was electric, so I reached out and grab it. You definitely learn that lesson quick!

I was wearing overalls with metal clips, climbed through between the wires, my leg touched one making me jump then of course my back touched the upper wire, I crouched trying to get through and the metal clip on my overalls got caught on a wire... I fell through the fence and lay on the ground for a bit
Yes, it was very comical to watch 😂😆😄😃

What a great run-up to lambing - several exciting videos this week. I was going to send a quick message anyway, to say that I enjoyed the Fed By Farmers podcast with Sandy, but it reminded me of why you will always be my favorite! The reality, both joys and struggles, is so beautiful as we share your life, including Lizzy and your boys! We love seeing you deal with all aspects of farming and family life. We've all had bad days, been exhausted, had tired kids and muddy boots! That's what makes your life touch our hearts. Never edit out the reality! We're never bored; whatever you share, we're all in. Looking forward to seeing you every day during lambing. Good news that you have some help this time. 🐑💖🐑😊

This Twin lamb thing where a pregnant ewe is not getting up and is a bit staggered on her feet , I believe what we in Canada 🇨🇦 ( or Sandi B.) refers to as Preg Tox . I know she has to sometimes induce the ewe if she can’t turn her around. Calcium deficiency for higher # of lambs I have observed but it can also happen to singletons. I’m no sheep farmer but a retired nurse. Incidentally, Toxemia of Pregnancy also can happen with pregnant women

I was feeding one of our horses a handful of long grass and we both got shocked. I saw it arc about a foot, that's how far I was from it. I had a red line from my hand al the way down to my foot. Congratulations, you completed a circuit! Man that hurt! The horse wouldn't come by me for about a week. It was a 'weed chopper' fence. They don't use them anymore, because they were causing fires. This was in the 1970's that I got the shock. I don't know when they pulled them off the market.

For all of us who follow Sandy Brock in Canada, and other sheep folks like EweTube, Crowley Hill Farm, and many others, Cammie is treating Preg Tox with the calcium and glycol. Out here, Cammie has to chase a poorly ewe out in the pasture to catch and dose and monitor her progress.

It’s much harder to treat in Scotland than it is in the confinement operations. Stress really makes the disease worse and these grass fed ewes aren’t used to all the catching and handling.

Honestly, Cammy, I don't know how you or any farmer/shepherd does it! Such an outlay of money for new stock, for products to feed or doctor your sheep, rent for land, plus all the stuff that you need to buy for your children, and all you have coming in is the sale of lambs? It reminds me of the joke about the farmer who won $1million in the lottery, and they asked him what he was going to do now, and he replied, "I guess I'll just keep farming until the money runs out." God bless you & your little family!

Do you subscribe to the Fed by Farmers podcast? In one of the Q&As Cammy addresses money. Last year he made £50,000 from UA-cam. He also does sheering every summer and does pregnancy scanning. He does these jobs for other farmers. He also makes money from selling merchandise which he seems to sell quite a bit of judging by his new trailer he uses at farming shows. It’s a really impressive bit of kit. Cammy works really hard and seems to find a way to make money any way he can. I feel for the farmers who are trying to make it by farming alone. That must be really difficult.

I touched a wire for highland cattle once, felt like I got defibrillated.. didn't even feel it on my arm where I touched it, was all in my chest. Definitely a thrilling adventure

Can’t you put signs up around lambing time to ask people to keep their dogs on leashes? If I saw that I would definitely keep my dog on the leash

Dexamethosone is often given for preg tox induction. You may also need to treat hypoglycemia in addition to hypocalcemia.

Cammie please take care of yourself not to be hateful in anyway just concerned for you. You seem a little overwhelmed. It's important you are both physically and mentally healthy for you and your family. Please take care. Best wishes with everything.
