It's heartbreaking because George finally won in life. He got a new job for his family. Sheldon and Missy probably regret that day badly and Georgie was not the same ever.
I actually really like this choice because in my mind it explains why she's so bitter on the big bang theory and tells ridiculous stories about George being an idiot. It could easily be her weird way of coping with the loss. She could be stuck in the anger part of grief, which is a shame. It would be nice to find out that later in life she reflected and realized that she had been too harsh out of a feeling of being left behind. Idk, i KNOW i'm putting more thought into it than any of the writers (especially the big bang theory hacks), but it's a head cannon that works for me. lol!
@@story3877 Actually, I was thinking the same thing. Not just with Mary, but also with Sheldon. Remembering George as a toxic, cheating, alcoholic scumbag is their way of coping with the loss. But I'd say it's more part of the denial stage. Denial for the fact that the man they loved and cared about, a man who was far better than they made him out to be in The Big Bang Theory, was now gone. By gaslighting themselves into thinking that George was worse than he actually was, it theoretically dulls the pain. It wasn't until Sheldon's wedding that he and Mary finally came to terms with it all and admitted to each other how much they missed George.
You mean when her kids finally grew up? Her character was always a loving mother. Its her family that had a huge character development because they had to grow up when shit finally hit the fan and it knocked them back down to reality. Like the tornado with Missy and then her finally realizing she was acting like a child throwing a tantrum.
This hits close to home and hurts... The couple of years before my father passed unexpectedly, he was just hitting a stride in his life. New better job, much of house redone, kids graduated and working. He was starting to get so happy. He deserved it.
@@partyguy101ify But it's literally all gonna go to sh*t... Mary is going to go from being a flawed but great mother, into a mess.... Missy is going to spiral and Sheldon is going to be even more closed off than before except without friends to comfort him.... and Georgie is going to have to hold the family together... And while Mary being a mess might be temporary, this is a really bad time... especially for Missy.... She's at the age where she would make more mistakes and her misery would make them worse... and Mary is not going to be in the state of mind to stop it....
I love that “Young Sheldon” softened the character of George from the raging alcoholic depicted by Sheldon from the earlier seasons of “The Big Bang Theory”. Although we all knew how this series HAD to end, giving George more sweetness and depth made it more bittersweet for us.
@@partyguy101ify His last thoughts likely weren't about how well things were going. The family is going to be spiraling mentally and emotionally in the aftermath but also financially. George was the main breadwinner, the financial stability he provided is gone.
@@zombielover1981 Yes. Next episode is titled, “Funeral,” and unfortunately will probably be quite sad. The final episode is titled, “Memoir,” and will hopefully be the nice, fun wrap-up to the show I first mentioned. Enjoy.
The fact meemaw looked like she wanted to cry first when she heard the news was heartbreaking. George and her never really got along but they tolerated eachother for the family. After meemaw, Missy broke tears, and then Mary and then Sheldon was speechless. I can’t wait to see Georgie’s reaction. We never really saw him cry.
I was so surprised that Mary was supportive. I was sure she would want to stay there because of Cece. It's so sad that George didn't get to live his dream, but at least he died knowing he had achieved it.
To be fair, there were a lot of issues before for accepting the job... As she stated, this was actually a great time for him to take it.... Since the kids are now older, they don't need Meemaw to look after them anymore, and all of them are leaving anyways and so it's a good time to move schools without any problems...
My Brother past away last March at 30 years old. He worked his butt off to support my family throughout his twenties and finally started to enjoy himself when the rest of us started our careers. He past away on his first solo extended vacation in his sleep. I miss him everyday.
I was so happy for George got to opportunity but it's really sad cuz 😢 he wouldn't imagine seeing their children how they become. I don't know this was kind of like a sad moment I do watch the episode and I don't know how I was like wow 😧
I haven't seen this episode or the one last night, its going to be heartbreaking. Have to say even though I always got the impression from BBT that all George cared about was football and beer, this show was great! Going to be sad to see it ending. Unlike BBT it is ending when it is at its best.
Canonically, I like to think the reason we get that impression from the TBBT, is because of Sheldon's issues. He was never good at showing emotion, as demonstrated when he got the news, the obvious shock and him sitting down conveying it. I think from that moment on, he couldn't acknowledge the love and care George had for him, because if he did, his mentality would put him right back in that moment. As such, any mention of George in TBBT only convey what to Sheldon are SAFE thoughts, thoughts that do not emotionally compromise him because they don't hold any deep seated emotional connection to him. Think of how estatic Sheldon gets about memories that matter to him emotionally. His Mi Mas cookies, or other cooking. You literally see grown Sheldon regress back to child like glee. Now imagine if he spoke up about a memory of George, one of many he probably took for granted, it would inevitably also bring up the memory of when he learned George died. Adult Sheldon subconsciously protects himself by not talking about the good memories, only the mundane, safe memories that didn't always paint George in a good light. To show George in a good light would mean fully acknowledging just what Sheldon lost, and he can't process that. Case in point, TBBT Christmas episode where Amy recreates Mi Mas cookies for Sheldon, and Sheldon is overwhelmed, pulls out ALL the gifts he bought for Amy, only ever intending to give her one that was equal to what he got from her. After the cookies, he gives her ALL of the gifts, and still says "it's not enough". Now imagine that on the other side of the spectrum, dealing with a memory of George, a good memory, and Sheldon having to acknowledge that the way he is mentally meant he didn't appreciate George the way he should have, and he can never say sorry because George is gone. Sorry for the long rant.
Next episode is titled, “Funeral,” so guess that will be a tribute to George, so to speak. Last episode will hopefully be a fun send off for the show. And a bridge to Georgie & Mandy’s show, as well as TBBT with Sheldon moving to California.
The time mary is accpeting nad encouraging george to go. He has to go and leave us. God damm george cooper. I am so not ready for this episode. Havent seen the whole thing purposefully cause I knew it was coming but i saw a clip and damm.
If only had Mary had been this supportive the first time George was offered an opportunity like this (season 2 episode 9), he could have actually enjoyed the benefits of coaching college football. As it is, he presumably accepted the position, but...

And he had basically won over Meemaw. They bickered, but it was more playful. Like family.
