The former locomotive is what they should have used to make Edward but turn that into Edward would require having to have the shell to have modifications such as different windows and no Square Firebox so it can resemble Edward
As chairman's of the Hornby Thomas range (i am not) this has been a useful ol' video Another thing to mention about the 2015 reboot, the motors changed as Edward, James and Gordon changed from the old 5 Pole ringfield motors to dual shafted can motors which from the looks of running videos they run smoother and quieter. Henry changed from ringfield tender drive to loco drive like other black 5s available from Hornby at the time. Thomas seemed to get a downgrade though as he was cursed with a bad batch of the Type 7 motors which would fail after not even that long of running, I've had two 2015 era chassis that failed that I've bought for parts, i still have one original 2015 era motor still going but it creeks and squeals warming up like a scrappy old Ford Transit any day of the year, even after servicing.
@@numptypootis8012 ohhh thanks for that bit of info that explains why my 2015 Edward is such a smooth quiet runner I like the 2015 range but I wish the tender engines’ tenders can come off instead of being wired on but hey at least he’s a great runner and I’ve heard Thomas’ motor hasn’t been that great and I’m surprised it’s not Percy’s motor tbh as he’s a pocket rocket but they could share the same motor i have no clue when it comes to motors lol
@@Splendid_Studios Now that you say that, they could have done the tender drawbar like they've been doing always with the ringfield tender drive locos but I think at that time they were phasing out that type of drawbar (despite it being one of the best things Hornby did) and I guess it being wired up from loco to tender helps the electrical connection. As for Thomas and Percy motors, I'm glad at least in the end Percy had a smoother running motor where Percy could go slowly due to Hornby getting some newer motors from China. Really, you can bodge the big can motors into Thomas as there is heaps of room and he'll run fine but I've not tried it myself

I’m sad Hornby discontinued the Thomas range, but it’s for the best. I’m happy I have a handful of them. (Love seeing my Hornby Henry in this btw 😁) Nowadays they fetch a pretty penny (Especially Murdoch 🤧) but the models are nice. The 2015 redesigns look good, but nothing beats the OG designs imo. :) Great video of the Hornby Thomas timeline. 🤘
And the bill, ben and Toby came from using the clockwork releases. I had the clockwork ones and put Smokey Joe chassis in bill and ben and an old Bachmann junior 0-6-0 chassis into Toby, sent them to Hornby and they kept them for a month then sent them back.
Say what you will about Hornby’s Thomas range, but at least they look like real locomotives, which is something I appreciate as a railfan. Also they made Stepney and Murdoch.

You know what, screw it im saying it it may be controversial and i might get shot for saying this but i dont care to be honest with you the hornby thomas range is my favorite thomas range and hornbys better than bachman (yes, i said that fight me) the virgin bachmann and the chad hornby i like bachman and all and they are accurate to the show but the faces are sh*t I've seen a lot of pepole say that bachmans better than hornby and some pepole including myself pefer hornby over bachman and I can see why and I respect all opinions but for me personally to me hornby is suppior in evrey way on how stronger the engines are and for the fact they have front couplings and yes they may have their flaws and one bad model was edward and kind of emily but I actually love hornby emily i love the fact the engines are more based on their real life basis some based off the props like percy toby bill and ben and toby bill and ben are huge yeah but at least they actually get their faces right and are more accurate to the show and they are just so accurate unlike bachman and are also based on the railway series the engines real life basis some based on the props and their real life basis and some are accurate to the characers from what they have well exept edward and emily i hate hornby edward but the face is accurate and hornby emily i love her dont change my mind but despite that I love this range 9.5/10 from me i am so sad and still sad to this day the hornby thomas line was discounted i wish it come back but i understand why they discounted it they have been makeing them for 30 years plus with mattel of how they've been treating thomas in recent years with all engines go and bwba i can see why hornby left thomas and stopped making them becuse what mattel was doing to thomas but if thomas gets back on his tracks it may hopefully it will come back but we'll see if it does ill be so happy plus if hornby thomas comes back theyd stop being expensive sireesley they need to be cheeper from 0-100 dollers/pounds and ill be fine with that plus dont go on ebay or Amazon for hornby thomas or model trains you'd have too find a very good price to get them I might use Facebook marketplace to buy hornby thomas or model trains for a good price and sometimes ebay for some model trains and if you're going for railway series or aus/headcanons(like me) use hornby but if you want to use tvs use bachman but that's just me but overall hornby is my favorite thomas range and I still think hornby better than bachman I'd give the range a 9.5/10 flaws hornby edward and I'm mixed on hornby emily

Hornby Thomas just is good as the og unlike other ranges like trackmaster and wooden railway. This didn't suffered big damage .
