@@richardlloydusa What is immediately noticeable is your high expertise (knowledge), experience and proper use of measuring instruments! It creates trust! Could you please test some of the popular protected flashlight batteries, such as the 21700 and 26800? Batteries that supposedly have a large capacity. Supposedly!? I have never seen such a test anywhere, and I believe that a large number of people need it. I suggest NITECORE 21700 and SOFIRN 21700 (5500mah). Thanks in advance !
Thank you so much. You are very kind. I will look into these cells. 21700 and 26800 are the greatest and the latest with 5000 to 6800 mah I will have to get my hands on some. All the best.
1 important fact for some of us is the NL189 assembly is UL Certified, where as the Olight & Orbtronic are not. As a manufacturer of Medical Devices, the NL189 is on a very short list of acceptable batteries. The core, Panasonic Cell, is UL Certified, but for protected battery assemblies, there very few options out there.
I know I'm late to the conversation, but I would just like to point out that the capacity when charging a battery must not be used to gauge the discharge performance. The discharge performance will always be lower, and does not correlate linearly across all battery types/brands/models. Concluding that the cell nearly reaches specified capacity (around the 7:30 mark) is an incorrect assumption.
Mr. Lloyd, when you discharge or charge I could realize that you does not matter with the type of chemistry indicated on recharger visor. For example, you are dealing with a Nitecore Li-Ion cell and the recharger indicates NiMH and then LiPo. It won't cause problem for cells and recharger? Thanks.
+Franco Pieruccini Faria If you are using a protected cell it would not really matter as the cell is protected from over charging or over draining by the internal protection circuit. But if you are using unprotected cells it most certainly matters to make sure that you pick the right setting to take care of not over charging or over discharging. Thanks
+Richard Lloyd Mr. Lloyd one more doubt. This device is able to recharger 8,4v rechargeable ordinary cells as well more than one 18650 3,7v cells at the same time or even eneloop 1,2v cells?? In other words, this device can recharger any kind of cells and batteries at any voltage? Thanks a lot for the information.
Learned a lot watching your videos, thanks. Is the battery holder seen at about the 4:37 mark an AC unit that you've converted to DC? I'm looking for a decent single cell battery holder that can work with flat tops and various lengths.
Thanks for the question. I just ordered an Orbtronic 3400mAh 18650 PROTECTED Li-ion at Amazon: amzn.to/1EkRbXu and I am interested in how it will compare to the Olight and Nitecore 18650 as the Orbitronics is claiming longer run times in flashlights. We will see. So far my preference is the Olight over the Nitecore see my videos on both those batteries here: ua-cam.com/play/PLnxXRLSlmSVO3L0jStRnPEEN2egrODjnm.html
Thanks for your fast response!Im really curious to see which one will win in your opinion! I need to pick up at least 4 new batteries for my nitecore tm-26 flashlight , right now I'm using tenergy 2600 mah , but I want something with better runtimes, anyways looking forward for your review , I will definitely tune in , thanks
You are welcome. I am curious too. Waiting anxiously for my Amazon order. That TM26 looks like a nice light. Does it require protected batteries? It looks like it has protection circuitry built in. If so you could save yourself some money and just buy the unprotected Panasonic NCR18650B (Note they are flat tops): ua-cam.com/video/xlY87jRXdQA/v-deo.html These do require overcharge and drain protection as well. Thanks again.

have you thought of testing the Eastshine E35 18650? I've been having Amazon review wars on this battery, I have 8 of them and i tested them and get no more then 3080MAh, and a lot of people give it 5 stars, I think because they don't know what a good battery is, also when I placed my review on Amazon Eastshine contacted me and offered me free batteries , they said they didn't agree with my review, but I placed them in a light and tried it against 2 year old NL189 and the Nitecore 3400mah lasted longer then the advertised 3500mah eastshine, But im no Pro, I'd love to see a video like this on the eastshine E35, I'd even be willing to send you some. also I noticed the people who voted it 5 stars and said they tested it at a higher MAH than I did received FREE batteries for review, as it notes on the review, I don't think they told the truth...
+Boban Pavlovic The core cell is a Panasonic NCR18650B 3.7V 3400mAh Rechargeable Li-ion but those cells are unprotected which means they require being used in devices that can handle unprotected cells. The Nitecore, Olight and Orbtronic can be used in any device without concern about overcharging, over discharging, or shorting because they have protection circuitry to protect the cell from damage. The Panasonic NCR18650B 3.7V 3400mAh Rechargeable Li-ion bare cell has no protection so therefore needs to be handled as such. Thanks.
+Richard Lloyd U can also buy protected Panasonic 18650B 3400mah for 5.08 euro per piece, or 6 pcs for about 23 euros instead of paying for only one Nitecore 15 euros. For that money i would buy 4 Panasonic protected and they will do the same job and u get 3 extra batteries.
+Boban Pavlovic Again the Panasonic NCR18650B is not a protected cell so you really can't compare an unprotected cell with a cell that has a protection circuit. The one without the protection circuit will of course be cheaper than the one with the protection circuit as it should be.
+Richard Lloyd You can find 2 types of Panasonic 18650B, one type is unprotected and another is protected with PCB of course. Protected Panasonic batteries are about one Euro more expensive per piece than unprotected. PCB from protected Panasonic do the absolutely same job like Nitecores PCBs.
+Boban Pavlovic Panasonic doesn't make protected batteries. However, some sellers do offer Panasonic cells with a protection circuit added by themselves.
I really liked ur review. I also noticed u put a single battery in the skyray king. I have orderes from ebay skyray king 7 xmlt6 if I want to use it regularly on less than 4 18650 would that be oki mean I know it wouldnt last longer? any suggestions?
+LutairaNo1 It is perfectly OK to use less than four cells in the Skyray King the only effect it will have is in how long the cells will work for. 4 3400mAh cells will allow it to work much longer than one. Thanks.
You should test the Eagletac 3400mAh battery sometime. I'm suspicious about it... which might explain it's much cheaper price. I have a Fenix BT20 bike light. I alternate the batteries between 2 Nitecores (as tested in your video) and 2 Eagletac when I need to charge. In 7 days for 28 minutes per day, the Fenix power indicatore turns red when using the Eagletacs, but with the Nitecores, I get 12 days at 28 minutes per day before indicator Fenix indicator turns red. I also find that when using a single Eagletac in a Thrunite TN12 2014, that the highest output is sustainable for a less amount of time than when using the Nitecore.

I ordered the p12 2015 edition with bundle included: when I open the case I notice the battery has some mark like water or drops on it. I denied to resend it because im on panama and it took 2 weeks to received It came from ship
yes I did, I noticed the battery had 50% of charge, took me less than a hour to reach the 90% then I used it. it works fine, but I'm worry about the battery could damage the flashlight itself. very poor design of this battery I hope they can build premium quality batteries in a future.
Interesting m 3400 Nitecore's shrink wrap is more on par with the O lights rap. Maybe just a bad run or? I have charged my Nitecore 3400 at least 200 times in the past roughly year and it's still doing great. But the O lights color seems better looking ;) Thank You
You're most welcome. I'm glad and very happy to know that I could help you. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the very kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
Lion's Light Excellent. Make sure you use the link in the description to get genuine batteries at Amazon: amzn.to/1DCEabm I have had reports of counterfeit product. Thanks.
+Michael Siaotong They usually come with a partial charge and you can use them directly but I like to fully charge them and drain them a few times when I first get them. It seems that gives me the best performance. Thanks.
+Michael Siaotong This a case where the answer is "depends" unprotected batteries are usually shorter in length so if length is an issue then go with the unprotected. Unprotected cells will last as long as protected batteries if they are handled correctly, but if they are not they can fail and fail badly. They do not have any protection from overcharge or over discharge which will ruin them. They also do not have any short circuit protection which means if they are shorted they can catch fire or worse explode. None of these things is an issue with a protected cell as they will stop all the above conditions from happening. That makes them no brainers to use as you don't have to worry about any of the concerns you would have with an unprotected cell at all, in fact you don't have to even consider any of those safety and proper handling procedures as the circuit makes sure it does not happen. Thanks.
Both of these brands are good as far as capacity, but they are way too expensive for me. I have found some cells that are nearly as good but much cheaper. That has been my quest for some time. One shouldn't have to pay upwards of $10 per cell just to get a good cell. If one looks a bit you will find cells that are cheap on price but rich in performance.
I need 24 new cells for replacement for a battery-pack from a electric bicycle. If you know cheap notebook battery's or other battery packs with good quality 18650 cells let me know. minimal 2400 mAh.
I review an option for you here: ua-cam.com/video/m5OTt-gsKPI/v-deo.html&list=PLnxXRLSlmSVO3L0jStRnPEEN2egrODjnm&index=6 here is the laptop battery pack I review in the video amzn.to/2fBXbBn Thanks.
In my opinion the Olight is a better battery and a better value. The Olight is $15.99 at Amazon: amzn.to/17XkyRP and the Nitecore is $19.95 at Amazon: amzn.to/18W67yq I have a video on the Olight 3400mAh here: ua-cam.com/video/WmhoTJi_bG4/v-deo.html Thanks
Actually it sucked worse than I thought. It was cheap Mylar tape. You can see it in this video where I re-wrapped it ua-cam.com/video/-nDg1CZhG3g/v-deo.html and I am much happier with my wrap than that which it came with. Thanks.
Another informative thorough test, my Nitecore 14500 has the exact same rubbish heat shrink, and the fake Ultrafire heat shrink is pristine shame. i think the Nitecore is probably cheap thin heat shrink, check the link below. thanks again for a great video. ua-cam.com/video/KxGpiqSkyQQ/v-deo.html
I did buy some shrink wrap for it which will also give me a chance to see it's internals as well. Hopefully it will be a simple thing to get right. I purchased quite a bit so I can practice till I get it to my satisfaction. Yes the weight of the battery is a good tell on whether it's real or not but you know the counterfeiters will catch on fast and put extra weight in them too. Cat and mouse game. Thanks again .

I ordered the p12 2015 edition with bundle included: when I open the case I notice the battery has some mark like water or drops on it. I denied to resend it because im on panama and it took 2 weeks to received It came from ship
+Jason Muñoz That sucks. Did you try and charge it?
yes I did, I noticed the battery had 50% of charge, took me less than a hour to reach the 90% then I used it. it works fine, but I'm worry about the battery could damage the flashlight itself. very poor design of this battery I hope they can build premium quality batteries in a future.
+Jason Muñoz The build quality was my primary complaint with these cells. Thanks.
Interesting m 3400 Nitecore's shrink wrap is more on par with the O lights rap. Maybe just a bad run or? I have charged my Nitecore 3400 at least 200 times in the past roughly year and it's still doing great. But the O lights color seems better looking ;) Thank You
Maybe I got a bad run. I am sure the cell it's self will be fine but if QC let these get by you have to wonder what else they missed. Thanks.
Awesome, thank you for the effort
You're most welcome. I'm glad and very happy to know that I could help you. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the very kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
REALLY INFORMATIVE. THANK YOU.
You are most welcome. Thank for watching.
Very good Review, will have to give these a try.
Lion's Light Excellent. Make sure you use the link in the description to get genuine batteries at Amazon: amzn.to/1DCEabm I have had reports of counterfeit product. Thanks.
Will do, Thanks again.
Lion's Light You are most welcome.
does a brand new 18650 need to be charge out from the box or its okay to just use directly
+Michael Siaotong They usually come with a partial charge and you can use them directly but I like to fully charge them and drain them a few times when I first get them. It seems that gives me the best performance. Thanks.
+Richard Lloyd thanks sir..
+Michael Siaotong You are welcome. Thanks.
sir may i ask what is protected and unprotected battery..? thanks.. and what is better to use.. thanks
If one looks a bit you will find cells that are cheap on price but rich in performance.
rigourous testing thank
You are welcome. Thank you for watching and the kind comment. All the best.
Great Information !!, Thank You !....
You are most welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best.
I need 24 new cells for replacement for a battery-pack from a electric bicycle.
If you know cheap notebook battery's or other battery packs with good quality 18650 cells let me know. minimal 2400 mAh.
I review an option for you here: ua-cam.com/video/m5OTt-gsKPI/v-deo.html&list=PLnxXRLSlmSVO3L0jStRnPEEN2egrODjnm&index=6 here is the laptop battery pack I review in the video amzn.to/2fBXbBn Thanks.
i just subbed, can you review battery for TM03?
This battery will work in the TM03 (it requires 2 18650 cells)
NiteCore TM03 at Amazon: amzn.to/2elXjYm
Which battery is better Nitecore NL189 Protected 18650B 3400mAh or 3400mAh Olight Protected 18650B ??
In my opinion the Olight is a better battery and a better value. The Olight is $15.99 at Amazon: amzn.to/17XkyRP and the Nitecore is $19.95 at Amazon: amzn.to/18W67yq I have a video on the Olight 3400mAh here: ua-cam.com/video/WmhoTJi_bG4/v-deo.html Thanks
nitecore 18650 3400 mah still cost 25 euro , while other good brands cost 11 euro. the crimp wrapping on nitecore cells are not the best.
Suitable for e cigarette?
Gk Hoker I am not a e cigarette user so I can't comment on that. Here is a video that may help you ua-cam.com/video/Bb4nj91as9k/v-deo.html
Absolutely not. The maximum discharge current of this cell is only 4 amps.
It's too expensive ! one of the most expensive ones in market !!!
There are many options other than this cell. Here are all my battery videos for you ua-cam.com/play/PLnxXRLSlmSVO3L0jStRnPEEN2egrODjnm.html Thanks
Too tough on the rapping. It isn't as bad as you stated.
