Came here to pay respects...Requiescat In Pace, Charlie. Class act all the way around. at the SARS benefit show in Toronto. This is how Neil Peart described it: A short, older man stepped up to me, sticking out his hand and saying something I couldn't hear. Thinking "Now who's THIS?" I took out one of my ear monitors and said "Sorry, I couldn't hear you." He spoke again, smiling, "Hello, I'm Charlie Watts." "Oh!" I said, taken aback, "Hello." And I shook his hand. He asked if we were going on soon, and I said yes, any minute, and he said, with a twinkle, "I'm going to watch you!" I suppose if I could have felt more pressured, that might have done it, but I was already at maximum intensity - there was no time to think of Charlie Watts and the Rolling Stones, watching them on The T.A.M.I Show or Ed Sullivan when I was twelve-and-a-half, hearing Satisfaction snarling down the midway at Lakeside Park, Gimme Shelter at the cinema in London, listening to Charlie's beautiful solo album, Warm and Tender, so many times late at night in Quebec, or any of the other million times Charlie Watts and his band had been part of my life. Geddy e-mailed me later and mentioned that scene: "BTW, I will never forget that moment before we went onstage when Charlie Watts came over to shake your hand (at the worst possible moment!) and watching your face go through all the motions of... a. who is this old guy? b. what does he want? c. oh for god's sake it's Charlie Watts!"
i was 13 years old when this song came out and it sounded so cool. notably because of the drums and how simple it was. thank you charlie. we will miss you.
Best Rolling Stones song post-Bill Wyman. I only recently realized what an absolutely great cut this is - the guitars have that classic raw sound and Charlie is incredible here with his sharp minimalistic playing. Mick's vocal is both intimidating and irresistibly smooth and seductive. His lower singing is so strong and powerful. And of course, that harmonica. "Love is Strong" is a 10/10.
I think this whole album is good. Certainly not in the groundbreaking territory of their earlier stuff, but man, is it solid. Just wish they would've kept Jump On Top Of Me on it instead of making it a B side.
I think “Doom and Gloom” and “Out of Control” have a legitimate case. The case for “Out of Control” is more about the live versions, particularly the one from Cuba. “Doom and Gloom” also sounds amazing live, especially in the 2013 Hyde Park gig, but the studio version is where I’d draw your attention to. It has a great riff, lyrics featuring social commentary and an urgency to dance, which are very on brand for Mick, and a nice solo/instrumental break featuring Ronnie on lead and Chuck on the keys.
I was the Visual Effects Supervisor and one of the compositors on that Video. Won an MTV award and Grammy for that one.... Fincher was such a class act. We worked 21 very long days in a row, and when we were done, Fincher sent EVERY person on my team a full Rolling Stones Catalog and generous gift card. He sent me a very special gift that I cherish to this day. The real gift though was doing something fresh and new. One of the great experiences of my professional life. I'll never forget it.
"What a kind and wonderful man he was... So down-to-earth for being the drummer of the greatest rock n' roll band in the world... I love you Charlie... and thank you for giving me such a beautiful and priceless memory of working with you... Beyond heartbreaking to see you go". - Gail Ann Dorsey

@Grand Rapids Well, they’ve had a long-ass career. But you gotta remember that this is a 90s song from artists that started in the 60s. I don’t think nobody from that era has done as good as them at getting people to care about their newer songs. It also doesn’t help that they don’t crack the whip as hard as whoever runs The Beatles’ stuff. If you want to hear a Beatles song it often has to be on their channel. Search this very same song here and you’ll find multiple uploads from fans. And lastly, songs get a jolt from being used in other types of media. But unfortunately, I think Scorsese would rather use “Gimme Shelter” for the umpteenth time than this song 😂
It wasn't a big hit simply because peole have bad taste in music. If you don't believe me, listen to the crap they try to pass as music these days. By the way, i loved this song when it came out and I saw them on the Voodoo Lounge tour. The Best concert i've ever been!! I also liked the song "I go wild"
Seriously?! You haven't heard Little Walter, William Clarke, Charlie Musselwhite, Sonny Boy Williamson (both of them), Junior Wells, James Harman, Johnny Mars, Kim Wilson, Sugar Blue, Billy Branch, Rick Estrin, Sugar Ray Norcia, Curtis Salgado, Walter Horton, Howlin' Wolf, Rod Piazza, Charlie McCoy, Howard Levy.... I haven't got time to list any more. Pretty much the entire Blues Harp community make Mick look shameful. I still like what he does on this track, but he's a rudimentary player at best.
I grew up listening to the Stones, but THIS is the song that made me a Stones fan. When I was ten, Voodoo lounge was the first album I paid for with my own money - still have the cassette!
I went to the voodoo lounge concert in Miami. My friend Howy did the lighting for the show. He got me in for free. Best concert ever, thanks to my friend !
