I keep all flavors of Idahoan instant potatoes in my pantry for those days I don't feel like peeling potatoes or want a quick meal. They're a pantry staple for me I stock up when they're on sale.

When desperate for time use instant potatoes to make potato soup. Shredded carrots, minced onions and garlic plus any leftover veggies (broccoli, corn etc.) or crumbled meat and any cheese.
I get the big boxes of plain potatoes and store the flakes in jars (to keep out bugs). However the Idahoans flavors are just so convenient.

@@pennynickels5216 I've used broth instead of water to make the potatoes, just add an extra 1/3 to half a cup, then add more until it's as thin as you prefer.

If I don't have roasted corn, I take a can of corn and rinse it than dry the corn using some paper towel - just to get the access water removed.
I heat up a pan with oil on med. high. Once pan is very hot, I add the corn and spread them out in the pan until they char than stir and char a little longer.
I will be trying these dishes. Many Thanks !!!

I think I've mentioned this before, my favorite "short-cut" is instant potatoes. I do buy the kind to add milk and butter to, but I've never minded that, those are standard stock in my home. I make so many quick and yummy meals just topping a bowl of mashed potatoes. In our house we even do taco items and chili, cheese and bacon, etc. Anything you'd top a baked potato with, you can top on mashed potatoes. I'm so happy to see this video. I'm glad you liked it. It's going to add quite a handful of quick and easy meals to your repertoire.

When you show me those miracle noodles and mashed cauliflower, I remember shredding cabbage/kale into long thin strips to replace carb noodle/pasta dishes. I was just wanting something long to pick up with my chopsticks when I wanted to do low carb at the time. If not satiating enough, I will always have a small scoop of rice to go with it, since my culture is more about white rice with multiple side dishes to go with it.

    • @ArdentMichelle
      @ArdentMichelle  2 місяці тому +2

@@ArdentMichelle There are pros and cons with the rice + side dishes. Pros, variety is nice and you can go pretty simple with the side dishes (protein for one, and pickled veggies for another). The con, managing multiple dishes/pots/pans while the rice is cooking in the rice cooker, lol.
My mother/aunt takes up the entire stove/kitchen every night without fail. So I had to invest in a cooking appliance like instant pot, air fryer, etc just to cook my own meals for my work lunches.

I make single serve mashed potatoes all the time when the kids aren’t home for dinner using a peel microwaved potato in a bowl.Six minutes…after taking out add a spoon of sour cream, spoon of cream cheese, butter and a splash of milk to a micro-ed potato and mash with fork. You’d don’t even need the sour cream or cream cheese but it gives it a silken texture

I actually just made vegan tacos for dinner last night and hubby loved them, probably because I didn’t tell him it was vegan. I used the morning star farms crumbles. I’ve used that before in meals and he’s never complained, even when he knows about it. I always add a jar of salsa in while everything is simmering together. At the end I mix in some vegetarian refried beans, let them cook a bit, then serve with dorito type tortilla chips.

Where I am in Portland, Oregon, a very large EQ is expected any time :( up to 9 point, there has been a lot of organization going on trying to be prepared. We are told to keep a minimum of 3 days water for each member of the family, plus all other supplies, meds, etc.. and preferably 3 months supply for each member of the household.. And, be informed, make plans and be ready. Kind of scary to think about it. Hopefully we will never have to face it. But, some foods keep indefinitely, it is a good idea to put some of those aside, little by little budget wise.

Great idea making a KFC bowl. Wish I had thought of it. Lol. And that's why we watch your Channel. ❤ Can't go wrong with comfort food meals, as we all need them now and again.

I changed my roux's flour to cornstarch for my son who needs to go GF, as I have always thickened gravy with cornstarch anyway. I search for GF bouillon. Better than Bouillon has modified food starch, and I am not fond of the soy in it.

Better than bullion is so good. I used to be an onion soup user but switched to this product. Very good.

I was wondering if any Aussies know if that last pack of pure instant mash ie no milk or butter, is available in Australia. Maybe Costco?
Im vegan and use a more expensive brand from the Vegan Store in Glebe, Sydney.

understood. 👍 Are you living in a car with a power source? If so, you could cook the vegan chicken patties in a pan.

Don't take this personal, but the ingredient list of those "potatoes" reads almost like my shampoo, just with a lot more preservatives. I think what you can save in time, effort and money you will spend later at a Dr's office. Potatoes are a very affordable ingredient - right now I see 10lbs bags of Russets for as low as $2 on sale. Boiling and mashing them will only take like 10 minutes extra but you have something with ingredients you know and can pronounce. Well, to each his own and of course everyone can do as they please but I'll always opt for the real thing - particularly in a case like this where the price difference is minimal.
