It’s genuinely fun watching Jimmy develop a car like this. I know it probably feels crappy to have constant hurdles come up like this, but this is kind of what developing a car is all about, and I’m happy for Jimmy that he gets to.

That seat is a loop hole in the UKTA regulations. The class Minty runs in requires you to have a passenger seat. But they don't specify what kind of seat it has to be. So people started putting carbon fibre and fibreglass go kart seats in the car to fulfil the regulation.

Minty has evolved well past that stage in terms of chassis changes. Minty would be more like a custom mod in Beam😂
I made minty in automation a few months ago, needs some updates to get back in line with where the car is now so I'll be doing that soon and if I remember I'll stick it on steam workshop and probably put a link to it here and on discord

I love how the outro video now is just all of this incredible stuff you've been doing in real life. It's a shame about the motor but it's awesome to see aero on the car now! Can't wait to see what's next once the motor is fixed.

So we're only three seconds or so off Chris Hall's lap record set in a Radical and about a second faster than Warren Fallow's Pork 911 GT3? Minty be freakin rapid considering Jimmy wasn't really pushing her. Fingers crossed the repair is quick, can hardly wait to see how Jimmy goes against the other monsters in time attack.

Minty is moving now! Looks sick with that aero. Jimmy if the car only cuts going into 4th, could it be the ignition cut for the sequential shifter? Almost like its cutting for just a tad to long? Not an expert by no means but just my 2 cents wortrh lol. Enjoying this, cant wait to see Minty running proper

You should really look into replacing that BP at some point, those engines are basically made as cheap econobox things and they really don't like making much power for long periods of time. You could look into a cheap alu honda block as those can take a fair bit of boost while being way ligther than the BP could dream of being. Also whatever ECU you're using probably has some sort of auto-blip functionality which would make your life on downshifts a bit easier.
Whatever you decide to do in the future definitely consider a dry sump if you haven't already. You push that downforce any further and you'll have so much cornering grip the engine will starve of oil and kill itself in no time.
Oh, and now that I've reached near the end of the video you should probably duct air from the radiator to the bonnet outlet with something to help keep engine bay temperatures under control a bit better.
Vid good as always, love seeing the minty get some track time and doubly so as there's not much content like this on UA-cam. Hopefully your TT goes well if you can make it.
A K-swap is definitely a great idea. The engine is lighter, more reliable and pretty easy to swap in as there's kits available.
Aero looks really mean. Can't wait to see the things Minty can do after the issues are ironed out!

Jimmy you inspired me to get into Sim Racing. So purchased ACC and a G29 True force and 6 speed transmission. Im super pumped. Bummer about Bathurst being a locked track ss im in New Zealand and love that track to race on. And BeamNG

The GoPro mount was probably a bit loose from the start because there was *a lot of shaking* in the video. That could be explained with a bit too loose mount.

If you're looking into actually doing the in-car live narration, you might want to look into how Motorcycle Vloggers have their mics set up. Those guys get very good audio quality even with loud pipes. Admittedly, probably not as loud as minty, but I'd say it's worth testing
Great video Jimmy 👍 sorry to see the engine issue, I've had plenty of issues with turbo mx5 engines over the last few years 😮💨 I've also got the exact same hesitation/ cutting that you've got and my car was also set up by M-Tech. If you or M-Tech find out what's causing it, please can you let us know in a future video 🙏 I've replaced so many parts trying to locate and fix it 🤣🤦
It's definitely down a hole. My money is on headgasket. No compression on one cylinder, pressurized TF out of the oil system too. You could hear it when cranking, one cylinder has zero or close to zero compression left. The cutting out behaves like boost safety. Boost creep is more prevalent in high gears and may have taken the headgasket out with too much boost.
Great to see all the development, testing, highs and lows that go into getting a racing car ready. Worlds away from the simulators!
The problem with the cut off, could it have to do something with that quickshifter? Heared about some issues like that in my motocycle group. You could turn it off and drive with clutch once to test it. Anyway, good luck in getting this engine back into racing shape

Always rember: Cars are pain, but we love 'em.
Also, i dont know what head gaskets you're running with for all that extra boost, or maybe the head bolts, but maybe try some stronger/heavier duty ones as well as a bigger cooling vent or something like that. Just my thoughts on the issue, but you trust your instincts and good luck with the project!

It's really interesting to see the struggles of building what was essentially a shitbox into a fully fledged time attack monster. All comes with its challenges like as we've seen but when it works, what a machine!
If you took the Engine straight to the engine builder id bet hed have it rebuilt in 1 or 2 days that would leave 2 or 3 to put it back in . Weve assembled whole cars in 5 days before a rally 😅

Possibly hitting a MAP limit cause it overboosts on the shift into 4th? Possibly also what's then ended up hurting the engine. Would love a cheeky look at the logs and the map. Hopefully its back up and running quickly

Drivetribe may shortly have an MX5 V10. Collab the eff out of it, if it works. You'll have the kit, they'll have a ridiculous amount of grunt. Sounds like a match made in....... errr Japan.

If the car keeps over heating you might need to switch to one of those fancy rear mounted radiators that brings in air through the top of the boot lid
No one is running them on the fast mx5 track cars, I don't think they work very well aerodynamically. Not to mention the lack of rear space lol...

Is it really too pricey to build up a spare motor? Since I’m assuming you’re budget is built around views, rather than race results, seems like a good investment to make sure you could hit the track. Unless you are going to LS swap that thing, it’s a lot of power to ask of those little Mazda piston rings, week after week.
