- I've put together a list of the best 20 strikers in the 96/97 version of Sensible World Of Soccer!
Obviously it's a subjective thing, and everyone will have different opinions on it, so I'd love to hear your views on what your top 20 would be!

The best player: Jean Piere Papin (bordeaux ok. 1,5mln) and Chapuisat (Borrusia Dortmund 7mln)

Henrik Larsson. 1,5milion $..the best player for not very rich clubs :)....SWOS mourdered a lot of my Amiga 500 (and 600 later) joysticks.
omg i love that i can go on youtube, look at videos like this and still found the Henrik Larsson comment 20 years after i first discovered him. This guy helped me win with a 3 million value team against real madrid and barcelona haha.
Kluivert for 5m. Absolutely great buy everytime. Should be on there.
The team logo for Zola’s goal is WRONG you use the logo of Modena... Zola in SWOS 96/97 play for Parma

Kolyvanov cost 1.6 mln and played for Bologna during season 96/97, but I agreed with your advice!

Theres overlaps on the same player too. The same Bebeto for example plays for Deportivo and Flamengo and is 15m at Flamengo and 9m at Deportivo. Theres others too.
Milan Rapaic from Perugia: Speed + Shooting, costing around 700k.
Pierre Van Hooijdonk was a great bargain for clubs who couldn't afford enormous costs
I remember a young Zidane (midfield, I know) being an absolute beast! Outscored most of my attackers. What a game that was!

Cantona my fave player growing up. But shouldn't be on the swos list. He was a bit slow in the game.

It was difficult to narrow down, so many great ones to choose from. And lots of the lads valued at 2mil or 4.5mil were also really good!
Try winston bakboard from Holland Second division VVV or something like that. you can score against 15m goalkeeper. Price is 225k

Both of you are absolutely right. I enjoyed the career mode the most, exploring the whole wide world, before eventually becoming the manager of a national team. This and the simplicity of the game was so amazing. And still is. Sometimes I still feel the lust and need to dive into this lovely game for a few hours. In particular, I remember that time when I discovered that the maximum carrer's years were 20, but I would not miss my long way done 😅 In addition, I remember another specific moment, that was when I got my first National Team request: from Israel! Why? Because although I was sure that I had selected "ITA" as nationality when I started my career (doing that it is very probably to receive a request from our national team if you had played good enough along a period of time), because I am Italian, that did not happened, thus I selected "ISR" sure! 😅 However, I accepted that request and I remember how much I enjoyed Resenthal as FW! 😎
It was inconceivable anything would surpass Kick Off 2 wasn't it. But Swos did manage it. That end of season loading screen seemed to take an eternity 😂

Netherlands national team has the best players: Kluivert, Bergkamp, Overmars, Van Hoiijdonk, Cocu, Winter, Seedorf, Van Der Sar...All of them are absolutely great. My favourite national team in SWOS 96/97. I had World Cup. I've lost first match with Columbia 2-1, and then I won with Brazil 1-0, then Bolivia 6-1, Saudi Arabia 7-0, Romania 5-0 (!), Brazil again in semifinal 4-0 (!!!!!), and final with Spain 2-0. Kluivert scored 14 goals, Berkamp with seven goals, Overmars with 4 goals. It was a fantastic tournament. Final result: 26 goals in seven matches.
Great selection, I'd add only Marco Simone (Milan) and Dely Valdes (PSG)

@@jaaak87 i am playing 96/97.yes simeone has higher attributes but i score easy goals with tulio than simeone. They are both on my team
I always bought Tulio. Great control and shot. Manjarin great shot and fast. 1m.

My all time best scorer was Ion Vladoiu from Cologne (FC Koln) Germany
The best Winger LW was Mikhalchuk from Widzew (Poland)
Best defennder LB was Mussi from Parma or Lazio
Right Wing defender was Jozwiak from Legia (Poland)

At Cambuur in the dutch first division you could buy Willem Van Der Ark for 200k. He was as slow as Daley Blind but his rocket right foot let you score goals from every distance. 'Ooooh what a shot that was...'

Tommy Mooney for 200k is an absolute demon. Valdas Ivanauskas for about 1 million is also phenomenal. Karlheinz Reidle is about 3.5 million, I think, and is about perfect
@Maxwell Boyne in the 95/96 version I believe he was 950k, but I could well be wrong. He was a legend, though. Speedy and with a powerful bending shot, so able to beat any defence. Great stuff!

Alain Sutter (Switzerland) was my lethal weapon up front and only a couple of million quid. One of the fastest players in the game. Used to bang in 50 a season on the regs for my lot

@@orlandotrustfullandhiscosm4110 Hi mate, you are right, I made a mistake. Thus, Vieri played for Atalanta in 95/96, albeit in 96/97 has moved to Juventus (Inzaghi remained in Atalanta in that year). However, his value was 2 mln only despite he played for Juventus, so he still a very good affair as well! In addition, I would suggest to you *Milan Rapajic* of Perugia too, who was a very cheaper player albeit he was a very good player! 😉

Probably not top 20, but I remember Nicky Banger doing well for me when I was bringing Hartlepool (or some lower league team) up through the divisions :-)
Great strikers indeed the game misses these guys now but they were expensive. There were plenty of gems in the game. My all time favourite purchase was valdas ivanauskas, striker at hamburg. Cost £1m and performed as good as the £15m players.
Yeah, I used to love finding little gems! In the original SWOS, Igor Kolyvanov was someone who I'd always try to buy at the start because he about 1.1mil or something and was a demon with the goals!
Michael Thomas was a surprisingly good player in computer mode. His value would shoot up pretty quickly, although to play him in the game, he was too slow for my liking.
Also my favorite cheap winger was Stefan Van der Heyden. I think he was 750k from a Belgian club, he was a Left winger and had incredible ball control! Didn't have much of a shot, but he could dink his way past 5-6 players easily enough!
SWOSIRELAND that's what made it so exciting! I ended up with a list of where all the cheap "great" players were. One of my other favourite challenges was to start with a really low down club, sell everyone and make a team out of the trial players and see how far I could get. That's when it was realistic for me. Ended up with a bank roll going into the hundreds of millions by keep selling on my best trialists. I got the raspberry pi for Christmas, with swos and a zipstick, roll back to 1993! ❤️

I used to have notepads with lists of players who were good to buy in the game and where to get them! I wish I had them now! Some of the triallists were great value alright, their value would shoot up so fast if they were half way good!
Check out this video, it's from the final of the SWOS Ireland tournament in January that I played in, 11 goal thriller! Felt like I was gonna have a mental breakdown towards the end!

SWOSIRELAND what a final that was! I tell you what, how you weren't ahead at half time?! His keeper played a blinder haha! If you didn't have Sweaty palms and dancing feet at the end of that then you're not human! Ah man I'd love to get into tournaments, last time I looked on line there's loads all across Europe but not much in the UK? Or maybe I just haven't looked in the right places?
