Previously!!! You nailed it Robert!!! When companies get bought out, or investees bail out a company, they have the day. The Golden Rule in business is; "He who has the gold(money) makes the rule", it's just the way it is. If you were to invest money in a particular band that you like, you would have say so because it's your money. That's why I say about renting out a venue & doing ticket sales for your show, if you want to do things your way, then it's your show your way because it's your money. Sorry you got covid, hope you get better soon Brother, Rock On & God Bless.
This is the problem with channels wanting to be the first to report a story. I never saw any evidence that he was indeed fired, he could have resigned.
For sure and even if they 'parted ways' due to some difference of opinion when you sell your company there is a limit on what influence you can have going forward
I was getting revved up for a good Gibson bashing and you just took away my fun :D Thanks for your perspective on the situation. I'll have to choose another day to resume bashing.
The guy is 80, there’s a reasonable chance that this wasn’t as icky as it sounds. I’m hoping so, anyway. I’ve owned a few Mesa amps and I know we all hope they don’t screw it up.
As much as everyone wants to immediately blame Gibson because, well it is somewhat deserved; Robert is 100% correct that it's too early to tell. The fact that the man is 75 years old and has dedicated his life to creating and designing some of the most prolific amps in history (and I'm a Marshall guy, not a huge fan of Mesa) so it could quite simply be that he decided to retire. Maybe he was offered a contract continuation or a consultant contract and he declined; again we just don't know yet. Speculation is fine, but we should wait a little longer to form solid opinions.
Its a great story. Garage based business in the late 60's a foundational time in music especially for us guitar sl#ts lol that became something legendary. I feel the future of his work is in good hands with Gibson and his creations will be around long after we are all dust.
Good point about KKR like everyone else at that level of private equity Henry Kravis won’t be missed when his soul is required back in hell 😉 Also let’s not forget if Randall was the primary shareholder he got a big chunk of change when they were acquired he wouldn’t have made that decision or whoever owns the shares wouldn’t have made that decision unless it was something life-changing that’s not the first time somebody’s walked in the door with their checkbook
Hey Robert i know this is off topic and i'm sorry but i was interested in the $50 Uzi pedal you demoed awhile back but i was wondering if you have tried the $25 Donner Morpher as those are the 2 pedals i am deciding on which of the 2 to buy as they both are supposed to be great miab style pedals, anyhow sorry for going off topic but i really like your channel and value your opinions on such pedal comparisons so keep bringing great content our way buddy
Ok I get that people want to feel some kind of way when someone gets 'fired' but let's be real on this one dude SOLD his company to Gibson. He is not going to suffer financially by no longer being part of the company. Dude is nearly 80 years old and have lived his dreams plus some. It does not seem shady to me but more Gibson got a custom shop amp sector and is looking to grow in that area I am sure Mr Smith was paid well for his service and will enjoy his retirement quite a bit
By the Mark IIc+ there were no Fender components. Fender cut him off YEARS earlier. Even the Mark I’s don’t have Fender components. The Princeton conversions are the ones with Fender parts.
I tend to agree with you. There is this goofy ass dude with a channel raging about it, lol. Randall is 78 years old. How long does he expect him to build amps?
I have about 3 or 4 videos that need to be edited and uploaded, but I also currently don’t have a computer set up, nor the time to do it. I’ll be back soon, I promise!
Honestly, I haven’t had much chance to play it yet. Between getting our house ready to sell, coming down with COVID, among other responsibilities, there hasn’t been much time left for anything guitar related, unfortunately. I’m going to try to get to recording a few things with her this week.
at his age why wouldn't he retire? my opinion, most modern gibsons are overpriced and of questionable quality. if I were to buy a Boogie it would be more than a few years old.
It feels like that reality is where the future of his brand will be heading. Overpriced for what it is but still some amazing gear. Feels like Gibson has worked on their quality issues so I hope they continue that effort especially with the levels of inflation we face today
Hey, Robert. Covid nearly killed me a few years back. Take insane amounts of Vitamin C and Zinc. It'll help you recover faster. As for the video, I hope Randall just retired. I could see it being the case and him signing on with Gibson to keep his legacy going.
More videos please Mr. Robert.

Maybe he can go save Randall... Randall saves Randall.
Imagine that and make a Randall amp called the "Randall Smith".
This is the problem with channels wanting to be the first to report a story. I never saw any evidence that he was indeed fired, he could have resigned.
Exactly my point.

Very well said my dude. 👍
Dude get better soon! I've had a few different strains of COVID and it can be rough!
Odd, he never mentioned it to me.
In the setting Mr Smith was in I'm 99.88% sure the nod came from KKR but with his background he may pop up again
In the same way that we all know CBS ruined Fender, the same will likely happen to Gibson.

Sucks you got covid in the mist of moving. I hope you get well soon. I've heard nothing but bad things about gibson running mesa.
Haven’t moved yet. Still house hunting. But COVID sucked either way.

Nope, I do not have any experience with the Donner Morpher, unfortunately. Sorry I’m not much help.
@@RobertWJackson ok thank you Robert
Randall Smith just admitted he got fired from Gibson. Check out his youtube channel.
Got a link?

Robert, you've not posted in over a month. I hope everything is alright.
Moving bro. All of my guitar gear and video equipment is all currently packed up in boxes.
But I’ll be back soon!
I have about 3 or 4 videos that need to be edited and uploaded, but I also currently don’t have a computer set up, nor the time to do it. I’ll be back soon, I promise!
@RobertWJackson Oh, cool. I was just hoping nothing had happened to you. I impatiently await your return. 😎
I was going to ask you, how's your new dream guitar sounding these days ?
Honestly, I haven’t had much chance to play it yet. Between getting our house ready to sell, coming down with COVID, among other responsibilities, there hasn’t been much time left for anything guitar related, unfortunately. I’m going to try to get to recording a few things with her this week.
@@RobertWJackson Good luck with your new house and recover from covid soon.

Gibson should have bought Marshall.
Mesa was never a Nostalgia amp design.
Randall's "Work-in-evolving-progress" clashes with the corporate marketing.
k
You've got a point.
