I saw him a couple times in Oakland in 1971, including his 20th win, a 1-0 win v. the Angels. Reggie, Campy, Rudi, Vida, Catfish,...this team was ready to make a run!
For about 6 months in 1971, Vida Blue was the most famous man in the US. It looked like he might win 30 games. He was never able to match that again, but he still was good through most of his career. Remember he was sold to the Yankees, but Bowie Kuh voided the deal, or he would have won a couple more World Series with Catfish & Reggie.
So glad i got to see him pitch many times. . he was the guy on the A's roster opposing hitters did not want to see. . Thank you Vida ! I saw him at the 73 World Series reunion last month at the Coliseum . .
Nice remembrance presentation. Winning both the A.L. Cy Young and MVP awards was quite an accomplishment in his first full MLB season. Prior to the "71" season he had a few "call ups" so he didn't qualify for the Rookie of the Year Award (which he probably would have also won). Once saw Vida pitch at the Oakland Colosseum, everyone in attendance could hear the "pop" in the catcher's mitt when he threw his fastball. At the time, I think Vida was just the second switch-hitting player in the A.L. (Mantle winning multiple times) to win the MVP award (no DH back then).
I will always remember him as Oakland A”s not a S.F. Giant. He wore the colors green and gold proud. Love watching him pitch. One GREAT Oakland A’s the legend. Rest in peace Vida Blue”
The "BLUE BLAZER" 🔥 Fact: NO pitcher, in history, not even Cy Young ever had more wins at the All Star break than Vids Blue did in 1971. -17 WINS. 3 LOSSES 🫨
I remember watching him pitch when I was a little girl in 1973. We were all watching on the big console in the living room. RIP Vida, amazing player
Yeah the whole family around one TV 📺. The Wonder Years.

Saw Vida pitch against the Royals in 73. He pinched a 4 hit shutout and had batters swinging and missing all night. RIP
