I first saw a 23 year old Buffy at the 1964 Mariposa Festival at Male Leaf Stdium. The last time I saw her was about 5 years ago and, in her late sixties, she was still dancing and jumping off drum risers. Now, at 74, she looks much the same as she did the first time I saw her and she speaks with the same passion as she did in 1964.
"we educate each other all the time..." "...there are some great minds out in the streets...each unique..." I also love that Buffy says "Life is Precious, diverse and worth protecting". The Movement she mentioned "Idle No More" is new to more(to go discover). I'm glad that Marlon Brando and Muhammed Ali were helpful during earlier years. I didn't know Residential schools had electric (torture) chairs for indigenous children. I really love this woman & she's touring in Australia 2020. Many thanks.
I genuinely miss Shad on Q, hope he continues to do work/projects he finds meaningful now and is enjoying them thoroughly. Thanks to him for this interview.
Buffy, you're a national treasure. Have been inspired by you since the 70's. My daughter's nickname is Buffy after you😘. We've all peed our pants at one time or another.... LMAO.
I LOVE Buffy Sainte-Marie. She says it like it IS! She's true to herself. She's true to her people. She's true to the world. A real leader. She's showing us the ideal and she's doing it right because she's have fun and playing. I've never heard anybody speak such truth!
I am so respectful of Buffy to be living in Hawaii yet not involving herself with the native Hawaiian cause which, as a native "Hawaiian" myself, find their theme to be one I am ashamed of, based on factually incorrect history, ingratitude, and what I believe is totally foreign and in fact opposite of the cause of indigenous and aboriginal American indians. Buffy Sainte Marie is a genius and inspiration to the world!
I'm an Indigenous Tahitian woman, and Hawaii has always been like our little sister islands, and I loved Buffy, I first heard her music when a Lakota friend of mine shared it with me. Auwe, I'm so heartbroken ever since Buffy's lies came out, I kept hoping it wasn't true, I kept searching for some other explanation. Her musical gifts are 100% real, I don't understand why she lied about who she is. 😢💔🤦🏾♀️
Great interview and lovely to see such an engaged conversation. Not easy to interview a goddess! How fantastic that Buffy's energy is still as intense 50 years on.
"Indigenous things, our survival values, our culture, our music, let alone our problems, which need to be fixed - it's all good! ... Sometimes it's a tragedy and we cry, but that's what tears are for, you know? They go away after a while." This kind of quote is a thread throughout her interviews, this kind of dismissive comment.
thanks for posting, I'm blown away, and such a great interview, I would love to sit down and talk to Buffy, but I've so I've many questions and that would take ages, but what an inspirational woman, nobody comes close male or female. I hope I have have the chance to 'babble' something positive, in a couple of weeks at the Brooklyn Bowl in London. to express my admiration and how much she inspires me in life in many ways throughout my life. (planet, people, and pets) love and peace to all, we are all one. No No Keshagesh
***** Thanks Ami for sharing this wonderful interview. So much down-to-earth wisdom shared here "What remains consistent is my conclusion which has always inspired my songs... that life is precious, diverse and worth protecting"
I am wholeheartedly amazed to find out more about her, especially her involvement in education, which is something that I'm also very passionate about! Buffy, you give me such hope and inspiration, your music is truly an invaluable gift.

Really sad,she seemed so genuine in her persona in this video, yet we all know different now. The way she said ,we indigenous artist, meaning herself of course. She stopped her music tour suddenly so did she know what was coming down the road? Her career is finished.
I saw Buffy in 1975 at arizona state fair. She brought out her husband and they introduced their new "production" baby Cody. I remember he was really tiny.
I like Buffy, but it is intreresting to me that the people who are most financially well off are the ones that say money is not important. It is pretty much what motivates everyone and you don't know what it feels like when you don't have it.
Well. This didn't age well - Beverly complaining about grifters... Remove every honour and award from Beverly Santa Maria. Take back all the prize money (with interest). Cancel her stamp. Revoke the Order of Canada. Prosecute her for fraud. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

The notion that work is "serious" is a lie imposed on the employee by the employer to keep the employee focused while the employer exploits the employee.
Should i splint my broken pinky-finger? It doesn't much want to straightn past the first "hinge" Maybe I should let it heal bent and buy a seventh guitar and learn to pick a second song
Buffy is 6 years older than I and I was mistaken for her a couple of times. She is a true talent; educated, intelligent, skilled, kind, and so much more. Like Buffy, I lived in two worlds; my biological white family and outside of it where I was considered an American Indian. Why didn’t I look like my family? Like Buffy I became suspicious and considered that my mom had been unfaithful. My dad always thought that. Like Buffy, I considered that I might be adopted. It is disheartening to not be treated as well as one’s siblings because of darker skin and ethnic features.
I hear you ❤ I had a horrible childhood and I was on the streets when I was a child but then a wonderful father and mother adopted me. . . but they're white, and outsiders can be so nasty when we don't look like our family.
