"I wasn't born last night" POV: the daughter gets debilitating cramps, grows up and finds out she has cysts on her ovaries that could have been prevented if she had started taking birth control back when she asked for some, and now she has to spend way more money getting surgery because you know her dad's just so smart.
My father wasn't happy when he found out I was on birth control because I had a cyst (it was the size of a grapefruit). But if that didn't happen, I would have to have it surgically removed because of how big it was and where it was. And he didn't want my mom to take me to the ER when my stomach hurt so bad I wasn't able to move or even eat anything (I was feeling nauseous because of the pain). If my mom didn't do that, it would've been worse. Now I am okay.

@@-S.L. he was abusive towards me but I cut off any contact with him last year. and now we have another problem because he doesn't really want to pay child support (for me) because I am trans and already 18 years old. but as soon as he will be back, we will solve our problem in court. I need that money to go to college/university, start my transition and pay for everything else I might need along the way. I was thinking of starting a small business, so I could cover at least the extra stuff (art supplies, chest binders).

The birth control one really gets to me. The fact that men stay thinking it's all about them. Tons of girls go on birth control way before they even start thinking about sex because their hormones need to be regulated.

Exactly, I started on the pill when I was 15, it’s been 4 years since than and I still haven’t even had sex because that isn’t the reason I use it. I use it because I was almost constantly on my period and was crazy sick and the cramps were killing me, but since I’ve been on the pill I am 99% regular and cramps are just easily treatable with one or two ibuprofen.
My mom asked me if I wanted birth control for my cramps I said no thanks because I would most likely forget to take it.
@@dumb_simp3914 i started on the pill, but that was my problem. i always forgot to take it. i still take birth control, because there are a few other options. the thing that i get is just a shot once every three months, and it’s called Depo Provera It’s godsend. anyway, case in point, you can always go see a gynecologist and ask for one of the other options.

These guys seem like the kind of people who won't listen when a doctor explains that you can't re-implant an ectopic pregnancy and that it cannot be carried to full term (or at least long enough to where the baby could be saved with our existing and widespread medical technologies).
These are the same type of men who think women that have had multiple partners will have a deformed vag, but then also think it somehow magically doesn't apply to women who have the exact same amount of sex with the same partner. They know literally nothing, so they just make up nonsense lol.

I think parents should be invested in their children having safe sex, 100%. (Dads resisting their daughters request to go on birth control is unacceptable, because he can't stop her from having sex nor from being raped.) Especially since it's parents/guardians ultimately who will have to pay to treat the consequences of their kid not having safe sex. They will have to pay for pregnancy tests and then abortions, or worse...an actual baby. Whoever is going to be responsible for those costs and those babies is well, responsible. You can't even start proper saving money and having your own medical health insurance, until you're 18 in America. Parents should do everything they can to prevent the kids under their care who have wombs from getting pregnant/bringing home more kids. That's why they should put their daughters on birth control as soon as they ask and get approval. As well as have a stock of Plan B in the house...show them where it is, give it to them, and tell them to take one if they've had possibly unprotected sex.

I had one of those dads. He was very against me being alone with any boy, the normal stereotypes of that kind of father. Along with that, he was invested in my appearance and being feminine. He would mention sometimes me being overweight and comment on how much I was eating at meals. (I was a bit chubby but barely overweight and ate average amounts. I just wasn’t the flat skinny that is the image some people want woman to be.) Or in general thought that his opinion on my appearance mattered. Ex. since i wasn't allowed to have birth control and had severe menorrhagia and anemia since i was a fucking child, i feel like i missed out on a decade of my life. i was in a fucking daze and not able to live right. i only just got birth control a month before i turned 22, and i'm 23 now -- and i can tell you, i NEEDED to have this at age 11. normalize birth control use.
keeping medical problems like mine untreated because "heavy periods are normal" and "the kid is overreacting" or "the kid just wants it because they want to have sex" is so fucking disgusting. people let me suffer for more than a decade because of this shit and i am so tired. i don't want to see anyone else have to put up with this *ever* again.
side note: i'm also a trans dude so periods are hell for me for dysphoria reasons too. i really cannot recommend trying out BC to lighten/stop periods enough. it's rarer for the progestin arm implant to be able to stop it vs the IUD but it's the one i have and it stopped 90% of my periods for me.

I didn't get on birth control until after highschool because my dad was always like- "it'll get normal when you're older" but it didn't. I got put on the patch, but before that I used the pill. I kinda refused to do the shot cause needle phobia. I'm just glad my parents realize what I use it for is regulating my hormone levels so I don't be in constant pain.
Even if she did only want it to have sex, wouldn't it be better for her to have it than to not have it? I'm not saying a father should encourage their teen to have sex (which I guess is why he doesn't want to let her take BC pills?) but if she mentioned it and you know she's boy crazy, then she's probably already thinking about being with someone. It's better to put her on the pill so there won't be a teen pregnancy or abortion. Also, it's just a good idea to have that protection, because teens do get assaulted and can get pregnant from it. If you can afford it and she is able to take it without serious health problems, I don't see any reason not to put your teen daughter on the pill if she asks for it or her doctor recommends it.
@@erikajoyal765 I'm not sure what the differences would be between the implant and your sterilet, but it might be worth talking to your doctor about. I've been on birth control for a long time to reduce the severity of my periods, although my issue was moreso heavy bleeding and not cramps. I can say that the implant has done just as much, if not more than, the pill to reduce the severity and frequency of my periods. I usually only get one about every two months, and the bleeding is much easier to deal with. I haven't had any negative side effects or issues with the implant either (it definitely didn't make my period cramps worse).
However, if you are needle-averse, it might not be for you. They have to inject your arm with lidocaine before they insert the implant (which burns some) and the insertion device has a massive needle as well.

Something like that happened to me when I was 8, this 5th grader who was also at that same pool would continuously dunk my head under water and hit me. Once he wouldn’t let me get back up. No one did anything because they thought we were playing a game. But that has scarred me and to this day I am still scared of going to public pools. But that definitely could and will hurt someone.

This does happen and some people take birth control to lighten their period. Long story short just give your kid birth control if they ask for it.

My parents are thinking about getting me birth control purely bc we have to plan around my periods and I can usually barely stand when I get them, not to mention they are irregularly heavy especially for my age. However it is not a split second decision, birth control can come with a lot of negative effects and does change the body in ways that can be harmful. I do agree that parents should concider it if their child asks, but there needs to be a long conversation assisted by medical opinions, at least I think so.

I think the birth control one hit me most, especially because I sort of feel like that when I tell someone I’m on it. I’m on it for getting bad side effects with cramps because it associated with my IBS. Honestly, telling someone or letting someone know sort of feels like being judged until I tell them why..... we really need to regulate that birth control isn’t just for “fully” protected sex.
