    Two weeks ago I watched the video and did like you said. And now I have about 5 plants that will be ready in 5 to 7 days to harvest and another dozen small ones. I'm absolutely amazed and blown away at this simple trick to pollinate the plants. Everyday I tickle the flowers. Eggplant parmesan soon! Thank you !

    Something to add here after growing a new variety of eggplants this year, Graffiti eggplant. I didn't have to do any of the pollination assistance as with other eggplants, and the Graffiti is without question the most delicious eggplant variety my family has ever eaten. Would highly recommend trying this variety; highly productive, minimal attention, delicious taste and texture.

      Yes, definitely check it out and see if if works for your space. “Listada de Gandia” (Solanum melongena) was the exact variety i planted. My mom found them being given away at her local library, of all places, and gave me a few. The package said 14” plants although I’d say mine was more like 36” for whatever reason.

      Sounds like a great setup. Because the balcony is a small container garden, I always choose dwarf varieties of any plant I grow so I don't normally need to prune. I never needed to prune my eggplants but there are lots of good videos on how to do it 😊

    • @viviancutler3918

      Oh mine are dwarf too. Dwarf Fairytale Eggplant. It is hard to get to some of the blossoms there are so many giantic leaves covering the buds and blossoms. Have you see how giantic the leafs are? Wow!!! They cover everything!!!
      They are so low and smooshed down sandwiching everything and very compact.
      I saw and read it is OK to cut the leafs blocking sunlight to the lower blossoms, and also for air circulation.

    How can you tell, You’re giving enough or not enough water to the egg plant plants? When flowers were blooming but it’s falls. Please advise.

    • @balconiagarden
      @balconiagarden  2 роки тому

      Eggplants that are watered correctly will be overall healthy, strong stems and leaves and the flowers and fruit won't dry or shrivel up. Flowers also drop if they haven't been fertilised or are not receiving the right amount of full sun (at least 6 hours a day). I'd water 2x week deeply and allow your plants to dry out a little bit between watering. This will prevent root rot which eggplants can get if they're watered too much.

    Hi.. Im a noob.. Are there any instances that it won't flower? Will it be due to not enough fertilizers?

    • @balconiagarden
      @balconiagarden  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Wee, there are many reasons why eggplants don't flower or produce flower buds that then drop off before producing fruit. The main reasons are not enough sun and water and too nitrogen in the soil or the feed. Eggplants need at least 6 hours of sunlight a day (direct if possible) and alot of water so place your plant in a sunny position and water regularly. The nutrient nitrogen is good for luscious green foliage but not good for producing flowers and fruit so if your plant has big healthy leaves but no flowers, try upping the phosphorus levels (good for flowering) and reducing N. Hope that helps! 🙏

    Hi. I don't have that green middle in my flower

    • @balconiagarden
      @balconiagarden  3 роки тому

      Hi Arundathi, it could be due to stress? To produce flowers and then fruit takes a lot of energy from the plant so it could be that the plant is reserving its energy for growing. Make sure you are watering regularly, the plant is receiving lots of full sun and the pot is big enough (if in a pot).
      Other thing is check are whether all the flowers are like that? Or could the flowers have ben damaged in any way?

      @@yashvardhandixit3289 wow that heat intensity must make gardening difficult sometimes. I would suggest 2 options; if you're planting your aubergine into the ground try to find a spot that allows for at least a few hours of full sun a day but that also becomes shaded throughout the day. To choose the best spot, try observing the movement of the sun and what parts of your growing space it reaches. Second option would be to plant your aubergine in a pot and move it around. That way you're more flexible and can control the sun/shade situation. Good luck and would love to hear how you get on!

      Hi Milansoni, I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean! To pollinate the flowers when they are in season, or flowering, it's as simple as I showed in the video 🙂

      @balconiagarden  3 роки тому

      Hi joe, yes you can hand pollinate tomato flowers in the same way as toms have both female and male parts on the same flower. Try to do it around midday for the best results.

    • @balconiagarden
      @balconiagarden  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Thet, make sure you give your plant lots of water, that contributes a lot to flower drop. Stand your plant in full sun as well, I noticed a huge difference in the growth of my eggplant when I moved it into full sun, it exploded with new growth. You can also fertilise it with an appropriate fertiliser. Hope that helps :)
