The dichotomy here of Dan's unrelenting empathy and gratitude and Mike's granite unbreakable exterior is FASCINATING
You're not lying. That was quite the yin and the yang of the male species on full display.
Absolutely, but also IS THAT PABLO'S MUSICCCCC
Having been in high school when PTI was started it became a daily ritual from 14 to now. Still listen via podcast. One of the functional real relationships you can feel thru the TV came from Kornheiser and Wilbon. This was an unexpected treat. Thank you Dan. Thank you Michael.
Thanks Dan, The South Beach Sessions have been amazing!
Ive never heard so much bullshit in my life... Thats not work what thus guy does its a hobby !!! Welding is work... Shoveling is work !!! Not talking about sports !!!
Wilbon is like that angry old man yelling at a cloud, but you would want to be his neighbor...lol i love it
"Well where did you want me to sit?"
Wilbon's mother innocently said that yet her words gave her permission and were SO POWERFUL that they empowered others to follow her fight for equality. Seriously amazing stuff from Dan and Michael. Thank you!
Wilbon is well respected. I saw him and NBA team at Heat Finals game 4 and thought Wilbon is the most respected among those 4
PTI is my favorite sports show. Tony & Mike are the best and they introduced me to sweaty Dan. Now LeBatard & Stugotz is right up there with PTI for me. Thanks for this interview
“Baaammm”….always a great intro when Dan was on PTI
@@shawnwelch317 I was going to type that too!
Wilson is always funny with fill in Frank Isola as well
I LOVE LOVE LOVE.... How Dan puts his Friends/Heroes on pedestals and Showers them with LOVE Cuz I know US Men have problems showing this emotion, It's Beautiful 👏🏾👏🏾
Totally agree.
Amen
Growing up in the Washington D.C. area and reading the Sports section with commentary by The Michael Wilbon was EVERYTHING. Then when you’re grown, you get to see him on TV on an entertaining and successful forum. And then when you meet the dude and he’s the coolest dude. He’s an ICON ✊🏾
Thanks for this. After my mom passed in 2014 I moved to Monterey and caddied at Pebble Beach for almost five years, and I had Mike's bag when he was in the Bay area for the Ws playoff run in I think 2018. It was probably the best day I had in that five years, and we had the chance to talk about a lot of things. I cannot speak highly enough of Michael Wilbon, and I appreciate his thoughts so much on parenting these days as I am about to become a dad for the first time, at fifty. I'm just glad to find this and again thank you so much. Dan's ok too 😅
Absolutely stellar interview. I'll concede I'm of the generation that has always viewed Wilbon as an old grump but seeing him talk in this setting has made me find a new appreciation for him.
Wilbon calling his son the P word is gold!!!
Spoiler alert 😂 yeah I can picture him doing that
Get Bomani on here next. These are wonderful.
Yes!!
I would be so excited for that but Bomani doesn't like to show vulnerability. Maybe Dan can cut through all that. It would be an amazing interview though.
The OG & GOAT Michael Wilbon 👏🙌.. His career & accomplishments speak for themselves, but also, what an incredible human being 🙏
PTI has and always will be my favorite sports show. Wilbon & Kornheiser were made for TV
Funny hearing Wilbon Curse. I like it though lol!
PTI is the only reputable program on ESPN outside of the live sports. Mike was like a father, and Tony like an uncle. I loved this interview.
😂😂😂 Wilbon is so uncomfortable w any kind of praise
HANG TOUGH!
I think he's fine with the praise. It's the love......
Wow!!! Thank you gentlemen 💐 💐
I absolutely GET and ADORE the SHOW and everything and everyone of the team blesses us with all podcast and clips. BUT I have to say, SBS is so unmatched intimately (BABY!) with Dan as an interviewer. This Wilbon session the absolute best of all! Amazing stuff Dan and Meadowlark crew ❤
This run of South Beach Sessions episodes over the past couple of months have been so damn good. Dan & team have really hit their stride with this show.
This was a FANTASTIC show. Just about life more so than sports. Two of my absolute favorites in media.
Nice to see Wilbon like this
You pay things forward! Good job Mike! That's how it should be in every profession!
These SBS have been amazing. I initially saw this episode on my podcast app, I immediately closed it and opened UA-cam to watch it here.
LeBatard does a lot of things well. South Beach Sessions might be the best of those things. And Wilbon might be the best of those sessions! Didn’t want this conversation to end. 👏 😢
What a great interview!!ive been watching tony and mike from new zealand for 30 years so their touch has travelled alot further than just america, appreciate you ,cheers
I just LOVED THIS!! I have always admired Mr. Wilbon. And I loved the genuine feelings you have for each other. Just outstanding. Next should be Tony K. Keep up the great work
Wilbon "I don't trust feelings." I love a real man.
Wilbon "he was at every Little League game"
other parents
"Don't you work?"
Whoah. Never expected to see Wilbon on here but always been of fan of both he and Kornheiser. Glad to see this side of him like all the guest on SBS
Another banger. Love these
Being a sports fan from St.Louis. I normally don’t like anything Chicago. It’s impossible to dislike Wilbon though. I even watched the show when he wore that Blackhawks Jersey.
Priceless interview!
The LeBron joke was elite 🤣
What a great interview. I have always admired both of you for your dedication and grace on the air. Profound respect and admiration for both Mr. Wilbon and Mr. LeBatard.
Wilbon and LeBetard are the two best kinds of sports commentators: old folks who like each other. They’re why I like The Inside Guys and why I liked Mike Shannon while he was alive. Fantastic individuals with deep conversations. I hope someone from my generation can do that.
Absolutely engrossing. Loved it. Thank you!
Wow! What a great and insightful interview!
Great episode. These SBS’s have been incredible. Thank you Dan! Thank you Dan!
This was incredible. The south beach sessions have been so fucking good - the best content apart from the normal show that they’re making
I first learned of Mr. Wilbon on ESPN's "The Sports Reporters." That show was a kind of "bridge" between the giants of newspaper & books sports writing, and today's sports-related TV talk shows. I know it's kind of an Old Guy / Boomer thing to say, but to me men like Mike Lupica, Mitch Albom, John Feinstein, Bob Ryan -- and Michael Wilbon -- were so much more interesting to listen to, than today's TV "hot take sound bite" guys. They were so thoughtful, and things their commentary was imbued with a true knowledge of the "history" of each sport. Wilbon and Feinstein were always so intelligent and eloquent -- and Lupica and Albom were incredibly funny. Like when I was a kid on Saturday morning who didn't want to miss cartoons, I would always be "planted" in front of the TV on Sunday mornings as a young adult, to make sure not to miss "The Sports Reporters." I love Dan LeBatard, and he's so right about Michael Wilbon, and the place he occupies in 21st century American sports media. I'm so glad Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser are still going. Tony is similar to Lupica, Albom, and Feinstein -- in that he's neither handsome like a local TV news reporter, nor is he a former athlete that viewers already know. So "Pardon the Interruption" kind of proves that to be successful, you DON'T have to embrace the faux argumentative, Me vs. You, "hot take" culture that has taken over sports talk (at least on TV). I always wanted more of Lupica, Albom, and Feinstein -- but I guess maybe they were "writers at heart," and each was very successful as an author, in their own right. All three would have been truly great podcasters, telling stories and sharing their knowledge of the history of sports. I guess the closest thing we have now, is "The Bill Simmons Podcast" -- and just like it was with Saturday morning cartoons and Sunday morning "Sports Reporters," I never miss an episode. Great show as usual, Dan & LeBatard Show team!
Such a great story teller.
Thank you for bringing Wilbon on. This was a treat.
This was so so lovely. Tony and Mike had such an impact on me growing up and It was so cool to hear him do this and talk about his life which I knew nothing about before this
Wow....excellent, excellent interview...this has made me an even bigger fan of Wilbon...Dan, didn't know he was such a great interviewer...mostly remember his "BAM" on PIT.
Wilbon is from a bygone era. It's fascinating and I love it. I don't agree with it necessarily but I get where he is coming from and I appreciate that he is authentically himself. There are not many left like Wilbon, and credit to Dan for wrestling with him while leaving enough space to speak listen and accept him for where he is, when he could have easily taken this in a different direction for the sake of entertainment, or cheap clicks.
This was great to watch on a slow Sunday afternoon.
If only Stugotz spelled Mike's name right. He wouldnt have sat in his chair.
So much to say...but I will settle with: This was GREAT. As usual. SBS has levelled up and I, for one, appreciate it.
The way JJ Redick’s podcast gets athletes to speak openly and honestly, this podcast does exactly the same for media personalities. This is really good stuff
This was another great one! Love getting more insight into Wilbon and talking about how he is with his wife and Lilbon, along with stories of his folks.
Great interview
Would love to run into Wilson at an airport and just chat him up.
I was just gonna watch a little bit of this and ended up watching the whole thing.
Great Interview Dan!
Great interview subject MW!
The first time i saw PTI was in 2003 in the University Student Union. I can say with confidence that I haven't missed a single episode since then.
I can't say that about anything else.
I love the hug at the end. Wish hugging was more normalized.
This is so God damn awesome. Thx to both of them
This was an awesome interview. Been watching PTI since it started in my college days
If you want the next generation to take on something you have to connect with them. It’s not about intelligence. Previous generations accepted everything they were given. Recent generations do not on principle. Things that have always been valuable, like for some people stoicism, continue to be valued. Communication remains about how it’s practiced as much as what it’s about.
Growing up on PTI and hearing this is a trip, appreciate all the honesty and glad Wilbon is growing still as a person and reaping the benefits. He’s a legend for a reason, and it’s cool to see how he didn’t have to be progressive to be a progressive hero. Shows how everyone can be a figure of change, not just the most fervent and the grief eaters.
Another awesome interview; thank you all for sharing!!!!
I sooooo loved this. Every minute of it.
Wilbon is the OG
1:11:48 Wilbon just taking a flamethrower 🔥to this session. Also 1:15:10
Fucking great interview! Thank you Dan for squeezing some emotion out of Mike. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
This is an incredible interview.
I needed this!! Thank you Dan for this❤
This is great! Thanks, guys
Great episode 👏 👌
This interview made me subscribe. Incredible conversation. When sports and life mix.
This specific show should win a Marconi.
Big respect to both these guys. Thank you for doing this.
Wilbon is a LIVING LEGEND!!!!
Amazing conversation!! May have been the best one. I love Wilson’s mindset. Great job Dan!
Wilbon
I just want to say thank you so much for this interview. I always enjoyed listening to Wilbon although I don’t always agree with his takes. 8 years older than I but some of his opinions make him seem 20 😂. I have a new found respect for him. Another GREAT I interview Dan. Thank you Dan and Michael for this.
Love these! Especially with the people I grew up with like Michael! And you as well, Dan! Thanks for all you do. Loved how Michael opened up about everything; even got me emotional thinking about my relationship with my dad who has passed.
This was fantastic
Mike and I share something: having kids at an older age. We had our twins when I was 47 and my youngest daughter when I was 50. And like Mike, I want to be around when they have kids.
You will, Jim. Just eat well and exercise regularly. All the best to you, friend.
PTI IS THE 🐐
Love these!
Love this! Keep them coming!!
He might not have made 7 threes if you were there! Might have been a blessing in disguise!
history ,sharing, and healing...thank you!
Good stuff dan....good stuff
Great stuff. Now you need to interview tony if he will leave his attic.
One of the best shows was Redskin Report, Mike, Tony, Sunny, Riggo. Nothing better!
Gonna go out on a limb and say Kornheiser has said no to this show 500 times...
He was on an earlier episode.
@@markjones952probably before it became sob beach sessions
If so, his loss.
Its episode 16 of south Beach sessions.
@@markjones952 It’s not on the SBS podcast
This is an AMAZING interview.
Great interview Dan thanks for sharing. Learned a lot
"The art of the interview" with Dan LeBatard
Not sure how you do it, Dan.. Another great one.
This was such a great conversation.
Amazing Pod!!!!
Sitting in Stugotz’ seat.
As an only child, the "very f*****' spoiled" Wilbon muttered hit a little too hard
Man, this was so cool. Thank you.
Haven't watched yet, but I hope Dan asks Wilbon why he hates Stu. 😆
Spoiler alert: he doesn't
"we have to support the lifestyles that make more money"- The poison of America
Simple question why did Wilbon have the headphones around his neck whole time never used them lol
Immediate play. Wilbon is a legend
I paused this at one second in and want to set the over/under on number of times Wilbon calls him Danny at 1.5. I think I'm leaning toward the over.
I'm taking the over.
