  • Stephen Jackson has never backed down from anything. Never held back from speaking his mind. And yet... this is the most open and raw he’s ever been. When the South Beach Sessions and All The Smoke worlds collide, you know it’s about to get real.
Brought together by love and trust, Dan and Stephen leave no stone unturned. Stak reveals how growing up in Port Arthur - steeped in violence and loss - made him the man he'll always be, telling his journey to finding an outlet in basketball and creating a new life for himself. From highlights to the infamous… including Stephen’s truth about the Malice at the Palace and a breakdown of how the media distorted the narrative.
Together, they open up about the unhealed wounds of losing the ones that inspire us the most, the profound impact of George Floyd’s death, and dealing with anger in order to accept the care and support of those who love them most.

Stephen Jackson is the coolest, nicest, realest professional athlete of all time. I’m from San Antonio and when he was a Spur (the first time), my girlfriend at the time babysat for him and other Spurs. I met him a couple of times and he always gave me money to take my girl out because I was a broke college student. In 2001, he caught wind that my 21st birthday was coming up and he told my girlfriend after a night of babysitting that he would leave some tickets at will call for my birthday weekend. When we picked up the tickets, there were 8 courtside seats along with the VIP passes that are given to family member for access to the court after the game. There was cash in the ticket envelope as well as a handwritten birthday note. It was and still is one of the best birthdays I ever had. That gesture is just a microcosm of the genuine good person that Stack is. Even at the Malice at the Palace, he was defending his friends and people he loved. His work with the George Floyd tragedy should be rewarded with a Nobel Peace Prize. Never got to thank you personally for the birthday gift years ago and for bringing the Spurs a second championship. Much love Captain Jack!

My dad passed away on Jan 4th from a 3.5-year battle with stage IV colon cancer. The final days I helped my mom put a diaper on him and get him into bed. He didn't know where he was. The last interaction we had on Jan 2nd, all he did was look me in the eye and tap my leg. What I understand is that these experiences don't have to be negative. They hit, and they hit hard but I was a son; I was there for him as he was for me my whole life. I get emotional while typing this. Grief is complex and I reach for the phone still. However, for me, it is all about gratitude. These two are the absolute best, and these conversations help me.

I love this man. My love/respect for him was born on that Friday night in November 2004.
I was 20 y/o, side-watching the game live while getting ready to go blister the town w/ my guys when it went down.
Seeing Jack jump in those stands IMMEDIATELY to defend his brother, fearlessly. No regard for his own safety, his own reputation, his own money, or any consequences to be dealt by the league or the law. My guy is LOYAL.
If only we all had brothers like Jack.

I became a fan of the Pacers as a kid because of Reggie Miller, then later Paul George became my favorite player on the George Hill, Hibbert, David West, Danny Granger teams, but in-between was my favorite Pacers team with Stephen Jackson, Ron Artest, Jermaine O'Neal.. I used to play them on 2K back in high school putting up quadruple doubles with blocks with Jermaine O'Neal 😅.. Love Stack 👏🙌

Damn this was great. The part about Pastner was crazy bc as a Memphian myself, Pasnter coached for University of Memphis for a while and I saw him sign a roster full of homegrown, hood kids and was successful with them. The guys he signed needed a chance and needed someone to believe in them and take them out of their bad situations. It all makes sense now. Pasnter is a good dude. Great interview!

Not even a quarter of the way through this video and it is so good. Martin Luther King's quote: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character." It is easy to judge people by their outward appearance or think we know who they are because of one act of stupidity or one act of kindness. To truly learn who someone is, we must be willing to commune with them. This interview is a step in that direction. Thanks Dan.

I always wish I had a friend like Stephen Jackson. I had plenty of friends, but youth is wasted on the young. Not a single one was someone like Stephen Jackson.
And you learn when you get in certain situations.
My life right now is something that most people can't fathom unless they experience it as well. And I wouldn't wish it on anyone but there are some situations that *requires* having someone like Stephen Jackson in order to make it through.
Also. I don't associate Jackson with The Malace. That's one of the last things I'd list when it comes to what I associate with him.

Needlessly invoking the name of God in this context in and of itself is disrespectful. And G-d is not Halakha. It's a fake practice started by European Theodor Herzl's clan. Ironic considering idolatry is the greatest sin. Then again, ultranationalists are athiest by default.

What Dan and Stack are creating will set the NEW standard where athletes are going to fully own THEIR NARRATIVES, particularly Black Athletes often demonized by White Media to create schism between an audience understanding where many Black Athletes had come from AND what has become the perceived 'evil' of Black Athletes who came from nothing .....
Thank you Dan, and thank you Stack for creating this vital and growing ecosystem where Black Athletes can lay claim to their OWN NARRATIVES.
