West end of Glasgow has a few more gems, some of which are properly hidden. I recommend: Hyndland street books, Voltaire and Rousseau, Thistle Books (on Otago street) and Caledonian Books.
I'm a bit of a silent viewer, so when I saw this pop up I had to comment because I'm from Glasgow and it was so nice and surprising to see you live here and were featuring some of these awesome shops! I was part of the kickstarter/gofundme type thing that helped Mount Florida books get started and I always pop in when I'm southside 😊 category is is one I need to go into more, it's a lovely space. I hadn't heard of the last one so I'll absolutely be checking that out! Bigglestones was a new find for me too recently, I had no idea it was so new! Loved this 😊
I added this video to my watch later a while ago because I live in Glasgow but I didn’t know you did, I thought you had just visited or something 😂 I’ve really been enjoying your videos, especially the Japanese literature ones which is what I’ve been reading a lot of lately.
If you haven’t already, I’d recommend checking out Voltaire & Rousseau in the West End. Second hand bookshop that has a chaotic layout but is a ton of fun to browse. Really inexpensive too!
Good morning- thank you so much this this video- I’m from Edinburgh and I am planning to visit Glasgow for a day. It’s been few years now 🙈 I’m on the hunt for book shops recommendations ☺️ Thank you so much.
Hi! I’ve just discovered your videos and I think they’re fab- you’re so insightful and I’ve gotten so many great recs from you 🥰 thought I’d recommend a wee bookshop I think you’ll love in Stirling called the Book Nook. It’s mainly second hand books but they have a great stock of queer books and so much more, they’re also a coffee shop! Sending love xx
Thank you so much for this video, I live in Glasgow and didn't know some of these, City Center on the other hand I know very well, It used to be near Trongate years ago but moved to where it is now, A great shop, Great staff and my #1 comic shop, They used to have a 50% off eveything deal in early Jan and I would save my X mas and birthday money to go and buy my back issues, It's where I fell in love with green lantern and got my passion for Golden Age heroes and where I first read We3 and Maus by Art spiegelman, Always a pleasure whenever health permits me to visit.
Wow! I had no idea you lived in Glasgow! One of my best friends lives opposite Category Is and I always try and pop in. However I find it's opening hours can be a little hit or miss. Voltaire and Rousseau was a great book shop, but you could not go in with what you want due to the mountains of books, you came out with a 5 book history of the publishing industry in the Transvaal.
Yeah I often get the urge to visit Category Is, only to realise they’re not open that day. But every visit is memorable! I skipped the second hand bookshops (there are like five in the West End alone) because they’re all pretty similar (still great though!)
Thank you for the video. I enjoyed watching and listening to you talk about independent bookstores. I look forward to the video(s) on the books that you purchased.
Loved Glasgow so much and I was lucky enough to visit Good Press over there, which felt so nice and welcoming. I still think about how lovely that bookstore was and I think it’s independent, if I’m not mistaken
I had no idea you had moved to Glasgow! I travel down from Perth twice a year to visit my favourites Voltaire and Rousseau, and Thistle Books in the West End. Might check a couple of your recommendations out on my next trip.
The couple who run Category is Books have wonderful taste! I didn't leave myself enough time to browse when I visited but in ordering online later, I gave them a description of the person I was buying for and they picked out the perfect badge to match her and the book I was sending her. Wish I'd known about the comics shop while I was in Glasgow too.
That was fun! Just yesterday I watched some old videos (you may have changed but your opinion is always important) and in one you say you dream of owning a small bookshop. Is that still the case? ❤📚
Last year, I read a book on how to start a bookshop, saved up some money, and even looked at a viable space, but ended up scrapping my plans because it was all just too overwhelming. It felt like I had so much to lose and too many unknowns. I’ve not actually told this story until now but that’s basically what happened. I scared myself out of doing it. But I still think I’ll end up opening a bookshop one day, maybe a few years from now :)
@@WillowTalksBooks Would it be an idea to look into joining a co-operative and sharing the retail space with other businesses? That way your risks would be slightly lower.
How good is it when you find a good bookstore. Ive recently found a small bookstore i love, i can get a coffee an then look through the bookstore an its amazing. This might sound a bit weird but the book store is a lot more liberal then the chain ones im used too an as a cis white male i was finding it a bit intimidating. But once i got talking to the staff, it was amazing they stock soo much better stuff then the regular chain stores an its such a warm welcoming vibe.
I totally understand that. I have cishet friends who feel intimidated in queer spaces for a number of perfectly reasonable reasons. Often it’s because they don’t want to encroach on a space that isn’t “theirs” or it’s because they don’t know the culture
Depends what you mean by those things, I guess. There’s plenty of Image and Dark Horse stuff, and as many TPBa as single issues. But I haven’t seen any graphic novels like Tillie Walden or Craig Thompson
I`d advise getting a card to which you can transfer crypto and then use it as a regular payment card. for instance, banxe card. they have low fees and you can use it everywhere.
Okay, be honest. Is this a situation where you used “man” in the gender-neutral way that Scottish people often do (which I’m still getting used to), or are you being transphobic? It’s hard to tell because I get called a man every day in these comments. If it’s the former, I’m sorry for being defensive.

I actually bumped into someone who watches my channel on Byres Road a little while ago and he was surprised I live here lol I love this city so much 💜

Such lovely book shops thank you for sharing them.
It’s great to see that there’s more bookshops that have appeared since I left Glasgow.
I miss it.

Ooh I’ll have to check that out asap! Thanks!
very cute bookshops, they are the heart of a city or community. its nice to have someone you can talk to about books.
Thank you for the show-around. I always wanted to make holidays in Scotland, now I'll think about Glasglow. :P

They were all lovely, but Mount Florida was especially charming!

Oh, I totally forgot about Good Press!
Love you shared these, really such gorgeous and important places. ❤
Such lovely bookshops!! Makes me a little jealous, where I live unfortunately doesn't have many indie bookshops.
Aw that sucks, I can’t stand the idea of an indie bookshop (or a library) not being within reach
I had no idea you had moved to Glasgow!

They looked fantastic, I love exploring indie bookstores 😊
Are you going to the meet-up in York?
@@WillowTalksBooks yes I will be 😊
Yay!
What a beautiful video thanks Willow

oooh I cant believe I missed Mount Florida Books when I visited Glasgow! Well, I guess I will have to revisit your cool city :D
Queer bookshop is so appealing ❤❤❤

@WillowTalksBooks mine was definitely a lack of understanding the culture, it's now my favourite place to shop at.
Tak!
Thank you! And so much love to Denmark! I lived in Copenhagen for a few months and loved every moment 💜
@@WillowTalksBooks I live in Copenhagen and love it too 😍 Really enjoyed this video!
Would you say that City Centre Comics stocks graphic novels and indie stuff as well or is it more centered around “class comics” ?

These shops are gems! Does anyone know if these bookstores accept crypto for payment?
I’m pretty sure no shop on Earth accepts crypto. You could try using money?
I`d advise getting a card to which you can transfer crypto and then use it as a regular payment card. for instance, banxe card. they have low fees and you can use it everywhere.

Can’t let anyone else just be happy, can you?

@@WillowTalksBooks I would never dare offend. I meant it as a means to give thanks. Nothing more.
In that case, I’m sorry. I get a lot of abuse on here and it makes me defensive. Glad you enjoyed the video :)
