If I could go back in time, I would push SO HARD for marketing this movie more extensively. KIDA SHOULD BE IN THE DISNEY PRINCESS LINE UP, SHE'S SO COOL
Ditto!!!
One thousand percent agree
Tell that to Elsa.
Augusto Rojas except she isn't part of that line. Frozen is its owncbrand5
None the less, there are other Disney Princesses that are Queen, nowadays. Like Belle, she married Adam, a prince heir to the throne, thus, by law, they are now Queen and King. The same goes to Snow White, and Jasmine. True, the Sultan is still alive, but remember that on the first movie, he said that after the marriage, Aladdin would be Sultan, hence, making Jasmine into a Queen.
Most people say she's a queen or a princess. They forget that during this scene she's a freaking Goddess.
I don't think that's correct. Technically, she's a host for a celestial energy manifestation... But goddess works too.
+Zachary Adams better words i think would be like host, catalyst, or champion.
Yeah, she's definitely a goddess - a goddess capable of hugging and loving and squeezing baby animals to little pieces.
is that why shes not considered a Disney Princess? cause shes a Disney GODDESSS
She is a goddess but also a queen, she was a princess before taking the throne becoming queen.
This movie is the reason why I wish Disney went back to it's old ways.
Kida is one of the most forgotten princesses in Disney.....
Atlantis is one of the most forgotten/underrated Disney films. I freaking loved this movie!!
Katie Tucker Me too I had a crush on milo.. ahhhhh...
Excuse me? Kida is a Queen !
Bobbi Polk she's not the only one
She is *THE* most forgotten princess in Disney.
This film's magic lies in it's ingenuity and creativity. It created a new way to show the lost city of Atlantis and gave it it's own original lore.
I've heard a lot of critics say that this film isn't good because it doesn't follow the normal Disney formula and it tries to be another film. But that's exactly why it's so good... It tried something new and succeeded greatly (IMO). It's in no way Disney's crowning achievement, but it definitely shines in it's own realm of animated films (like the crystal)...
Agreed. This movie rocks and that's enough for me.
Christopher Spaulding
Fuck what the critics say. They’re the ones who suck. This movie doesn’t.
One of the most powerful scenes Disney ever animated and this film got slated for not being "Disney" enough...
Yeah u right I like how she walking on the water with that powerful background music in the back
Planetary Pieces I remember being a kid and watching this movie on VHS and when this scene came up, I would try to recreate it in my grandma's living room. I love this movie so much!
Well it's not bad, but it's not all that good. It's okay.
James Ken seriously?
It was competing against both Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Execs are morons.
Its so fascinating the background behind the heart of Atlantis. According to the wiki it was a fragment of a comet that past over Earth in its ancient past and broke off. The Atlanteans were the ones that discovered the fragment. The notion that Atlantis possesses "cosmic magic". They almost virtually wield the power of the universe. Can you imagine from what part of the cosmos something with such tremendous power came from?! And to top it off, the heart is just a single fragment of that awesome power.
+domidium Wow...when you put it like that...! Makes me love this movie even more than I already do!
MrBanausos I figured from the very beginning that Atlantis's power was analogous with nuclear power after seeing the very first scene which literally showed us a mushroom cloud. And I don't have a doubt in my mind that the Atlanteans believed that it was purely magic, I was just giving my observational opinion based on the description in the wiki and other forms of fiction that mix sci-fi and fantasy. Besides, even though uranium comes from outer space, the comet that brought the heart of Atlantis could have had any kind of elemental composition that is not yet known on Earth. But I do agree, its energy does behave very much like radiation in that it iridates all those who are exposed to it. The major difference is that it is a self aware radiation that bestows either positive or negative iridation based on it's thought and/or manner of exposure.
MrBanausos Ok dude, I think your missing my point. I'm just expanding on the content that was provided by THIS movie. I'm not trying to produce a point as to how the "real" Atlantis would have existed.
+domidium On top of that - there are dozens if not hundreds of those hovering heads piled around the edges of the pool. See them collapse after Kida descends? How many times has the heart of Atlantis chosen a champion? Love this epic lore.
...those carved stones don't represent the heart's chosen ones, they represent the "kings of the past". If you remember, when Kida's father died his likeness was also carved into one of these stones. Yes he was of royal blood, but he wasn't specifically chosen by the heart.
Man.. James Howard, your music never disappoints.
James Newton Howard is a genius. First Dinosaur, then Atlantis? Just as good as Hanz Zimmer to me... in fact they both shared an Oscar for Dark Knight!
I don't care what anyone says, Kida should have been part of the official Disney princess line.
+Rakeem Beckett-Scott Im with you on that!
This movie rocks , not to mention that Atlantians have their own language that they speak, not like other disney movies where every one speaks english
yeah i saw a documentary about how much time they passed to create the whole atlantean society and language thats crazy
athomicritics I just wish they hadn't come up with a completely nonsensical explanation for how they could understand English and other languages.
+Ashen Empress I think Milo kind of explains it earlier. That because Atlantis is an ancient civilization it shares a root dialect with the languages that populate the earth as we know them today. Which is why Latin is used for describing scientific categorization as every language is related one way or another to Latin.
IT's so weird how Mulan, _who married a general_, is considered a disney princess, but not Kida.
also when you consider that the historical mulan choose suicide over being made the wife of a ruler (albeit a invading ruler)
The money that Disney gain with that movie
She’s a god
Yeah, its because Disney doesn't have real criteria. Its marketing. They just use the ones that make them money. Thats it. Thats what informs every decision Disney makes, even creatively. The sooner u figure this out, the sooner we can let this company fall and stop warping copyright laws to suit them.
She doesn’t belong there at all
Never wanted to be a 'girly' princess but a princess like Kida.
You mean the sort who might command wars?
So basically Mulan?
TheMcgillacuddy Yeah or kida
Sidney Meyers Mulan has a higher kill/death ratio tho, so she's cooler
Nothing wrong with either:)
Let's just say that the music used at the beginning gives me chills every time i hear it.
I watched this movie so many times a year when I was a kid
And I found out this movie actually flopped?? What the fuck, its way better than that!!
Ikr? This Movie kicked ass!
This is my all time favorite Disney movie, and one of my favorite movies, period. Diverse cast of interesting characters? Check. Interesting lore and setting? Check. Strong female characters? Check. Beautiful animation and visuals? Double check. I love this movie. It's SO good.
Hannah Nielsen great soundtrack check
Princw of Egypt was DreamWorks. not Disney
And now we have Frozen and all those soul-less CGI animations. Disney really took the wrong path.
Hannah Nielsen, same!
This movie did well with diversity. There’s a lot of movies now that can’t get it right.
the soundtrack is so magical and breath taking~
The first time I saw this, is the first time I was ever truly amazed/shocked/inspired all at once in my entire life
Yeah, this scene literally changed my life.
Bella Gyulnazaryan I'm 22 now and I've just watched this movie again, and I'm still amazed for the beauty and deepness of this underrated masterpiece.
Just re-watched this move again today and.....wow just wow ...The music the lore, everything about it was superb. It still gives me that weird feeling as if it was real lol
This was the last, best hand-drawn animation production in America. And then Disney went CGI.
i don't understand how going CGI is such a bad thing. It is a different style of animation, but still looks beautiful.
Birdlover425 It's just annoying that Disney doesn't do anything else than CGI anymore.
Birdlover425 It does look beautiful, but hand-drawn animation gives a much different perspective. There are a lot of really great scenes in this movie that I can't imagine done in CGI, would give-off the same effect (though, I do appreciate both, and am not particularly vexed at the change). Personally for me, drawn animation feels a lot more raw and can be more expressive than CGI/Live Action films because everything is stripped back and simple. That's why we love cartoons I think. :D
Evangeline Elias I can see what you mean. It's different in a really nice and unique way. I think people are just mad that CG has taken it's place. They aren't upset about CG, they're upset about it replacing hand-drawn.
you should know that a lot of scenes in this movie, this one in particular included have cgi combined with hand drawn. It is explained in the director commentary that for this scene, for example, the crystal and efigies are cgi and the characters are hand drawn, and that happens with the leviathan, the submarine and other sequences
The soundtrack is amazing
Cristina P So right
This is why mike Mongola should do more cartoon animations. I just love the sharpness of the faces and the shadows used, gives it such a great fantasy aspect. So much of this movie was just amazing, too bad it never got the viewing it deserved
Loved how her skin toned made white hair look WAY better!
This has always been my favorite movie and this particular scene gets me emotional. I really love this movie.
I love that there is no dialogue in this scene. The whole thing is just felt through the visuals and music. Even the hum of the crystal is unforgettable.
To everyone who says Elsa was the first cool/independent princes (Independent meaning not relying on someone else)
I'd like to remind you of Kida, Mulan and Pocahontas. The three Princess badasses. Elsa doesn't hold a candle to any of them, so please stop praising her as the female role-model little girls "needed."
What does she even do? She runs away from all her responsibilities and sings a song about how she really could care less. She doesn't try to go back to help because she's too afraid (A fear she never gets over). Gets captured and tries to run away again, she doesn't even save the day or do anything remotely heroic!
Why do people forget about the three badasses that actual did something?!
Mulan isn't a princess, but is really one of the best Disney female characters. Like Esmeralda of The hunchback of Notre Dame.
THANK YOU !!!
Elsa is a fucking Tumblrina, a horrible character and role model.
The fact that garbage like Frozen becomes the highest grossing animated movie ever but spectacular art like this gets tossed in the dirt is aggravating.
Teh Lucian, conbince urslef
@@oneandonlyprecarious You're retarded ?
@@Valagh but she became a princess
How the hell is this movie underrated? I remember seeing the poster in theatre and it really caught my attention. I couldn't wait to see it. The look's were different, the story was not the usual Disney fairy tale, damn, the couple seemed to me like they became friend's, not a couple. I loved this movie, and is still amazing and I love it!
BEST Disney film of alll time, great music, animation, plot, voice acting, just... ah can't get enough of it, oh don't forget about that Disney Interactive game, boy did that take over my life for a time :D
Best disney princess ever! Even if disney doesn't see, Kida, for who she is as a princess because of the low ratings in the early 2000's. She is far more skilled fighter, incabable of speaking any language on earth, Kida is maybe "8,500 - 8,800 years old (according to Milo)", she is the Heart of Atlantis, she can heal, has god like powers and now she is the queen of Atlantis.
+Pennelope Ochid She's not the Heart of Atlantis or has god like powers. Wasn't that a separate entity who's power only those of royal blood could use?
+Kimberly G yes shes a catalyst, champion, representative, etc to their gods power.
Get chills everytime... such an underrated masterpiece!
This has always inspired me ever since I was a little girl and to this day still. I've always loved the thought of being a gypsy/goddess/woman carried by the light of a crystal with beautiful mystical music. You understand my meaning so I'm just gonna straight out freaking say it I love the whole beginning of this scene. I've rewound it so many damn times I'm about to glitch UA-cam 😂. This scene has always struck me in the heart, and forever will.
One of the best 5star animated scenes of all time.
Such an underated movie!! Love it to bits!! Xx
yknow, i don't understand why everyone loves frozen.
Me neither, I saw it in theaters opening day and I came out and was like "Ehh, it was okay nothing special or original though." But the more overrated it got, the more I grew to hate it!!! Personally, Atlantis and Treasure Planet are the only 2D animated Disney films I absolutely LOVED!!! Mainly just cuz I'm a Sci-Fi fan and both those movies are Sci-Fi.
Feeltheforce2629 Atlantis isn't a sci-fi movie, it's and adventure movie. Even the creators constantly refer to it as an adventure movie, not Sci-fi.
I love this movie and the animation! I wish Disney did animation like it used to. Don't get me wrong, CGI is great and I love the CGI movies they've been making, but they don't have to make ALL of their animated movies CGI. They should do a few with their classic animation style.
Factz
My favorite scene in the whole movie. Kida's definitely my #1 favorite Disney Princess of all time.
lol that old dude looks exactly like the old army dude in avatar, the main plot is quite similar aswell.
the voice actress of kida she played on rug rats
jvfunn3000 yes she was it is awesome to hear some one like that in good movies but she has not been that active not fore years
lol he looks like zhao
I always thought he looked like Callaghan from BH6.
I don't know why but this part scared the shit out of me as a kid
Me too especially when she spoke...
Peacemaker_222 "All will be well, Milo Thatch. Be not afraid."
Jordan Dillon her loquendo voice creeps me out
What's Loquendo?
fuck me sideways, the Music in this scene is sooooo amazingly beautifull
Nicolás Riveros yes very
I wouldn't mind a live action remake to this. But please cast them correctly and don't white wash these amazing characters!
don't black wash them too I guess xddd
Daniel C A remake would only ruin and disrespect the series even more than the sequel did.
Andrew Garfield:Milo Thatch
Tommy Lee Jones :Commander Rourke
Charlize Theron:Helga Sinclair
Zoe Kravitz:Princess Kida
Michelle Rodriguez:Audrey Ramirez
John Turturro:Vinnie
Billy Connolly:Cookie
Terry crews:Dr Joshua Strongbear
Idk who would make a good king🤔
@@raerae6262 Morgan Freeman maybe?
Rae Rae sorry but Zoe is too light
0:02 that kid singing is sooooo beautifull
She's not a Disney Princess...She's a Disney Goddess! Her beauty & sexiness are way beyond any other princess.
Tengo esta película. De niña no paraba de repetir esa escena, era simplemente mágico.
sii transmite algo muy mágico esa escena
I agree
now THAT is absolutely beautiful
I wouldn't mind a remake, or re-release so the younger kids get to experience amazing Disney movies and learn about the forgotten princesses (and even Queens). Whether they hand draw it or CGI everything, I wouldn't care as long as it kept everything from the original shot for shot. Sort of like an updated version if that makes sense.
Valara Verdui A remake wouldn't work w/o Leonard Nimoy (R.I.P.) as the voice of the Atlantean King! he was the only reason I watched it the first time.
Oh I didn't know one of the voice actor's passed away..!
Valara Verdui Yeah, Leonard Nimoy died last month.
Florence Staley (the voice of Mrs. Packard) died back in October of 2003, & Jim Varney (the voice of Cookie) died back in February 2000. And as mentioned before, Leonard Nimoy (the voice of the King) died this year.
Angela Roquemore well would it be possible to keep the original voices but update the sound?
Everytime I watch Atlantis, I just wanna go out and try and find it for real
Man I still get goosebumps watching this. This was one of my absolute favorite movies as a kid and I remember being glued to the screen when this scene came on. So magical and the music is so incredibly gorgeous as well.
Her hair is so pretty
Always get chills when she walks on the water.
Watched this 10000000 times as a kid, found it on netflix yesterday.. Best movie ever. Might just be the nostalga tho :D
I swear, this scene for is the best piece of Disney animation. It's enough for me to just recall this scene in my memory to give me goosebumps, let alone to rewatch it. The music and the animation in this one is astounding. Totally creates the proper atmosphere for witnessing a princess of a lost kingdom becoming a goddess.
"In the avatar state you are at your most powerful. But you are also at your most vulnerable."
Underatted masterpiece.
love the background music. sounds so powerful and ancient
My sister and I watched this in the movies when it first came out. It is just as great then as it is now!
Let's all take a moment to remember this was all hand drawn. The fact that it looks so stunning and beautiful is amazing and talented work!
This movie is so underrated. It should have been paid much more attention too, especially due to just . . . well . . . everything!
2:02 Nothing seems to impress Rourke
"He's never surprised. and he's got guns."
Richard Lew id honestly say its an example of a poor character flaw. even sinister people, especially from the 1920, surely should impress and in complete awe at such a supernatural feeling event.
He is already surprised at 0:06
Goosebumps throughout this scene
Best disney movie hands down
Kida is by far my favorite Disney princess
I was looking at ancient Greece, specifically the islands, like Santorni which was originally called Akrotiri, It was a cliff side farming and trading city/town during the bronze age, grew powerful because of their trading system and were quite ahead of their time in terms of crafting objects, using techniques from around the world. They say that this island and those people may have inspired Palto on his story about Atlantis, and the crazy thing is, they looked like them, dressed and were advanced like in the stories and then they were wiped out by a volcano, the island didn't go underwater obviously but for a long time people thought Atlantis was actually near the bay of Santorini.
It's interesting that their actually may have been a place like Atlantis, Plato just changed it a bit to describe the politics in his time. These people were called the Minoan's. They didn't have white hair or crystals but were the most advanced civilisation at the time. They were mainly located on the island of Crete but there is evidence of thier settlements on other Grecian islands.
When I was little I used to recreate this scene in the shower xD
fuck that fake love conquers all bullshit frozen film this is how Disney should make films!
SephirothgeneX7 also like this animation
Kida is considered a Disney Princess in my eyes and no one can tell me otherwise
i see that disney princess movies are more successful the dumber they are. People don't like to think very much when they are watching a movie, like in cinderella. any body can watch her and understand it (more or less), but Atlandis was totally the opposite and it is so good and and makes u wonder and think. but people just think it rubbish but i think that is it a disney masterpiece and it is -sad that people don't appreciate it. but like my mama said don't throw pearls to swine.
these movies are mostly targetted to americans whom are not very interllectual.Sadly, some freaking dumb non-americans wanna follow the trend and so follow the americans.
good pont ! :-)
sólveig Diðriksdóttir just found out people dint like it,it shocked me,I love atlantis.
yes there is so many mysteries that we see in it but i think it is just too complicated for some people. that is why cinderella is so famous, it is easier to understand rather than atlantis
sólveig Diðriksdóttir like frozen?
¡Me fascina! La música es increíble. Esta pelícua está muy infravalorada. Pero es una de las mejores que ha creado Disney.
I'm so disappointed Disney won't branch out so eloquently as they did with this movie. It's honestly a masterpiece imo. I think people give it so much grief because it's got the Disney logo, but is unconventional (and brilliant) in its approach. The fact that people try to push Disney into a box is annoying enough, but to know that they could be capable of such gems, and knowing we will never see them because god forbid Disney try to be different, is truly sad.
Just watched the movie today and this scene with the music was so beautiful to me. This movie was great imo.
In time, I hope this movie gets more recognition for its brilliance. I swear I could watch this movie over and over again
I love this scene :-) it's really captivating. The moment she starts walking on the water always gives me chills, just because it's impossible...seeing that was so cool. The music is so unique. I also like the way Kida is drawn when she's looking up at the crystal, she looks realistic. And the brightness of the light is so fascinating against her, haha. This is such a great movie and I wish it got more appreciation!
One of the most intense and moving scenes in any movie.
bruh i remember the cereal they came out with for this movie.
My Favorite Scene.
I think the music here deserved an Oscar. Out of this world 😲🤩
I remember watching this movie for the first time when I was a kid and I was in awe when I watched it! It's so sad that no one really remembers her, I mean she's SOOOO INCREDIBLE LIKE WUT?!?!
Love this scene 😍
THank you for just showing the clip and not turning it into a music video :)
god I miss these movies not the ones with true love and annoying sing along yes this movie head some love in it but it doesn't show it it's hard to explain.
I miss 2D animated movies
I was never been happier when youtube recommended me this clip, I forgot the goosebumps I had from such a masterpiece...
I like the part where she speaks to milo and her language before walking into the water and he says “I didn’t catch that” interesting moment
I hate how Kida is literally a forgotten princess of disney, and she's so kind and cool too!
i remember watch this movie, and this scene ...i decided BLUE...will my favorite color for ever......right now my nickname from always is...Azulo *-* xD
Kida turns Crystal Gem.
This entire scene sums up the art of the whole movie. Masterful animation, absolute beautiful music that enthralls you to watch the transformation again and again almost as if you are Kida herself forced to relax and go into a trance and watch it over and over just due to the shear beauty and power of the entire scene. If I had to show 3 clips for what Atlantis was, it would be this scene along with the ending of Atlantis with Kida and Milo following the stone and the city's fall. I remember when I was a kid and every Saturday for 4 months id wake at 10am and watch this movie from 10am to 7pm just watch, rewind, and watch again. The fact this was HAND DRAWN still blows my mind to this day and I get so angry when I find out it was a flop because people wanted typical princess crap. This movie needs to be re-released and idgaf im making my kids watch this movie :3 making them understand the true appreciation for soldiers in combat and REAL art, hand-drawn and mastered beautifully. They will be critiques by the time they're 15!
Right? I was always like wtf? He looks like he's mentally snapping his fingers and going, "Can we pick it up, I have an appointment with your buyer in like an hour." XD
I love the music. It's good.
Can someone please recommend me more music like this? I espacially like the part with the child in the very beginnning:)
I was watching this with my brother not too long ago. We agreed that, on a whole, it's kinda...meh, but then we got to this scene and started talking about how awesome the animation is. Seriously, THIS IS BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK THAT I CAN NEVER STOP GEEKING OUT ABOUT OR PRAISE ENOUGH!
I love this scene.. AND I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!
Okay, as atmospheric as this scene is, I really have to ask. What exactly was the heart's plan there? Later, it's explained that it's alive and sentient and fuses with a host when endangered to defend itself and the city, but what does it do here? They become one and get put in a box with no resistance whatsoever? If anything, it just seems to have made the job of packing it up and dragging it off infinitely easier than it would have been!
That was the point. If it hadn’t given itself up, Rourke and his soldiers would have been willing to gun down every Atlantian until they got what they wanted. The Heart was trying to protect the Atlantians by giving itself up, so maybe the Atlantians could live another day. The Heart also seems to have an strong aversion to violence as well as little to no offensive abilities without something else making that energy a weapon. The Heart was pulling the ‘self-sacrifice for the one(s) they love’ card. Plus if it hadn’t come down on its own, the attempts to pull it down could have damaged it.
This is an epic moment throughout Disney films
Awesome music...so mysterious and magical sounding!
why can't disney make animated movies like this?
0:03 I'm apsest with the song
Kida should be in the line up. The movie should get remastered, better marketing, a live action, and all the praise.
Kida should be incluided in the Disney princess canon..she is amazing,is a shame the movie was a failure.
Yumi chan even if it was academy awarded
Yumi chan
Failure ? İt was Awarded
You’re nuts if you think the movie was a failure. It had the most diverse cast of characters without being try hard ive ever seen and an actual good leading female character development as well. Kida was a perfect balance of masculine and feminine without going over any traits. The designs were beautiful in the movie, the story, the culture, the linguistics involved were beautiful too.
I wonder why the “crystal”/“goddess” didn’t fight back? Its mission is to protect Atlantis and its people but it let itself get captured. I wonder....
I think can explain! The crystal is a being that tries to protect the Atlantians and keep them alive. It also appears to have a strong aversion to violence, considering that, when it was used for war, it backfired tremendously. It could tell that, unless it gave itself to the outsiders, Rourke and his soldiers would be perfectly willing to gun down all the Atlantians until they got what they wanted. Giving itself up was the way to avoid all that death and destruction. As well, it doesn’t appear to have inherently offensive powers. The only ways we see the crystal energy used as a weapon is through other elements that channel the energy into a weapon (like the fish cannons and the glass shard). As well, even if it did have offensive abilities, they would be incredibly powerful and, if a fight occurred, it could cause collateral damage to Atlantis and its citizens. So yeah hope this helps :D
As a 4 year old I looked up to her so much. I wanted to look and feel this beautiful one day.
This scene is so disturbing especially the eerie sounds, Keida walking like a zombie and speaking in Atlantian.
Gosh I love this scene.
There're no words to describe how much I love this movie.
