    Great video Andrew, I’d highly recommend the company I used them a couple of years back when my haldex control unit started to play up and threw a load of codes up on the dash of my Mk5 R32. Booked my car into the main dealer and they wanted around £1200 to replace the unit, after a quick call to auto fault finder he gave me great advice and once I’d stripped the unit off the car I’m sure it was repaired and back with me around 3-4 days later all sorted and only cost £160 😊👌

    Excellent company, the Haldex controller on my S3 8p had a fault where the seal perished and let water and grit in. He fixed it and returned it within 3 days and it's been trouble free since. I buy my Haldex oil and filters from him and change them every 30k miles for peace of mind.

    Thank you for including Haldex Repairs in you Haldex repair video. This is a really good job well done, and a very common issue with VAG Gen 4 Haldex cars around 50-60k miles. Enjoy the grip :)

    I had exactly the same issue buying approved used from audi last year on a late Mk2 TTS DSG. Warranty picked up the bill at Audi £599.61. Good to see these cars can be worked on relatively easily. Just need the 4 post lift. Great VT. Thanks

    Just did my haldex service on my mk2 TTS today. I wish I had a lift because it would’ve been a lot easier - like in this video 😄
    But it still wasn’t as bad as my mk1 TT. Those have that filter up around the top that’s a complete nightmare to get at.

    • @volkswizard

      Yes Mk1 is a pain. Ironic that on Mk2 filter isn't part of schedule but is dead easy to swap out!

    Hello! Excellent video!
    Does it cost as much as the new filter seems to fit in? I see you have to pry it in.
    On the other hand, do you have to give an order to the pump by vdcs after replacing it?
    Thanks a lot!
    A greeting!

    Hi Andrew just by showing everyone how to do this essential job, why take it to a main dealer when for around less than half price and if you are decent with some spanners it's relatively easy to do yourself. More vlogs like this would be very helpful.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  4 роки тому

      Hi Simon, glad you enjoyed it. View counts on vids like this are never that good. I will make them but only on the rare occasion when I need to do the job and there is something to be gained by filming it (in this case a discount on the parts). The filming process makes it around 5x harder / more time consuming to do too and I had to do this on a Sunday when the job itself could have been slotted in any time, even after dark when it would be impossible to film. But the fact you enjoyed it is appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Could these get an air lock within them? I did mine the other day and could only get about 300ml back in and now when driving I hear a whining noise which I believe is due to lack of oil? But I can't get any more In there it just flows out straight away?

    It’s even worse on the mk7 golf with haldex 5. No filter, just a crappy gauze. I took my pump out at 12k (18 months old) and it was congealed and almost completely blocked. Probably saved the pump by cleaning it all out similar to your process here. Good video!

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  4 роки тому

      Thanks for that insight Leigh as I'm not up to speed on Haldex 5 but the website suggests it's been cheapened even more. Can't believe the oil is still doing that on the newer cars especially so early! It's weird as TT Mk1/Mk4 R32 early gen Haldex lasted quite well but I suspect it's not getting the use like it does it these new cars so oil isn't working as hard.

      Not sure - have a look at haldexrepairs.co.uk as it might say but because it’s so crucial to the process it might not be able to replicate 100% any other way

  • @Gaming_Guru24
    @Gaming_Guru24 2 роки тому

    You didn't show it in this video but I attempted this today and the two 4mm bolts holding the pump on both snapped just past the head of the bolt. So 80% of the thread is still in the pump lugs and diff housing. Obviously can't get the pump off with it still being threaded. I've had enough with it for today

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  2 роки тому

      Not good Nick but it’s a risk whenever you undo bolts. Anything left to get molegrips onto?

    • @Gaming_Guru24
      @Gaming_Guru24 2 роки тому

      @@volkswizard the old pump is still on, it's a countersink scenario literally sheered off just below the surface of the pump lug face, so the thread thats left Is below the surface of the pump but still goes through into to casing.

    • @Gaming_Guru24
      @Gaming_Guru24 2 роки тому

      It's gonna be a case of loads of penetrating oil, blowtorch and try to pry the pump off without being able to turn it coz of the bolt thread thats been left that are effectively acting as dowel pins, all that without trying to damage the ali casing otherwise its game over

    • @Gaming_Guru24
      @Gaming_Guru24 2 роки тому

      I managed to get the stubs out through grinding the pump lugs off and then mole grips on what was left. No drilling and tapping needed but the bloody pump will still not free up! The aluminium on alloy must have in effect welded together. And the clip going to the haldex ecu is an absolute nightmare to undo. Looked like you did it dead quick in ur video and tips? I've tried relaxing the clip and then pressing the plastic bit down aswell as then pulling back with a screwdriver up in between the small gap but it will not come off. Cant get anything above that haldex ecu to try to pry the clip off there I hardly any room

    Great info and thanks for the insight. Having experienced Haldex failure on a RSQ3 and now owning a S1 I'd really like to avoid a similar situation by some good old maintenance above the manufacturers recommended interval. Without VCDS and a decent car lift I don't think this is something I can resonabley attempt myself but I now have a much better idea how much it should cost at a specialist service centre. My question is what is causing the 'gunking up' of the filters? Is it the Haldex clutch material? If it is I guess the shorter service interval than recommended depends on if the car has been driven in a way that gets the Haldex to activate more regularly than the manufacturer expects. Either that or they have a nice failure mechanic built in.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Steve, Auto Fault Finder report that they have seen this failure as early as 18k miles on a hard driven Golf R Mk6 which will have driven its back wheels a lot especially if modified. However even average used cars will have this issue before 40k, don't forget the oil is pre-charged ever 20 secs even if it's not used so it's always working to some degree.
      The filter gunks up because the oil congeals as it's not up to the job. The fact it used to be a 20k interval on Mk1 TT/Mk4 R32 etc suggests Haldex knew but were forced by the marketeers to extend it and delete the need for a filter. Neither was a good move but together that was bloody stupid.

    We have an 08 Skoda Scout. Full dealer history until circa 90K and I'm not sure the Haldex has ever been touched. I did ask the Skoda dealer but it wasn't included in the standard service. Think the dealers skimped on the 2x "free services" I got when I bought it at 70K. Now on 125K. Perhaps I'm running on borrowed time. But getting the cam replaced (BMM engine) was an expensive rude awakening!
