Can anyone please tell me what are those big square rocks for ? at 4:40 i often see it at construction sites stacking up so many and high up. Thanks in advance. 😊
Thanks for the full video. Really hard to find this kind of video on youtube. I have a question. I saw they welded the Rebar cage to the steel casing, what happen when they extract out the steel casing? I often found out on site the rebar cage fall to the bottom of the piles. What might go wrong that caused this from happening?
During the extraction of the steel casing, we cut the welded rebars. So that the casing and the rebar cage will be separated and the casing could be extracted. If the poured concrete is still too wet, there may be a chance that the rebar cage can fall down to the bottom. Additional reinforcement length is usually considered above the cut-off level to avoid these issues. Even if the rebar cage goes down, it won’t affect the lapping length of the reinforcement. For tension piles, the rebar will be provided throughout the length of the pile. In this case, if the rebar cage is not welded to the casing, it may have a chance to move upwards due to the dynamic pressure in the confined environment.
A very detailed explanation. Many Thanks for posting this.. if its explained with voice that would have been MORE excellent. Can you please provide info on how much time did this process take in real time productivity with the list of resources like men and machines..
The productivity of the piling works for the above site is 1.5, means we can do 3 piles per 2 days time. (working hours 08:30 to 18:00) Rock coring will kill the time, it takes around 2 for 1m rock coring.
Actually it is not the water. It is stabilizing liquid (Bentonite or Polymer). Soft soils has a tendency to collapse during pile boring. To overcome this issue, the stabilizing liquids were pumped into.
That is a descriptive video of making bored pile....Thanks for sharing but I got a question. Those polymer liquid is added in the hole and it will be pushed out to surface by the concrete during the process of concrete casting, won't it?. Then, what does those polymer liquid do?
Yes the polymer liquid will be pushed out to surface during the process of concrete casting. The polymer will act as a resistance shield for the soil around the bored hole. The purpose is to withstand the soft soils in the bored hole without collapsing.
Basic reason of providing the casing is to prevent the soft soil from falling into the pile bore. If the casing pipe is not provided , the clay or the soft soil shall keep on falling in the excavated bore of the pile and while casting the concrete, this shall get inadvertently mixed in the cement concrete.
There are temporary casings and permanent casings. The temporary casing is a type of casing that is removed after the casting of concrete is complete, typically before the start of the final setting. As you must be well aware, the loose soil is generally found in the Initial layers of the Bore. So, in the case of a temporary casing, the casing is not much deep. If we have a deep temporary casing, it is very difficult to remove after the completion of casting. Permanent Casing is a type of casing that is concreted with the concrete and remains there for Life of the Pile. The general practice is placing the casing before pouring the concrete so that no soil gets accidentally mixed with the concrete. These kinds of casings are seen where the soil is very loose/fine & the chances of caving of the pile are more.
Hi dear This is nice video good, two queries I have 1. If the pile lenght is 15meter, what will be the casing pipe lenght and whether the casing pipe will be inserted prior to drilling the boring 2. When the casing pipe will be removed, that is immediately after casting right ...
Thank you. 1) The casing length depends on the soil conditions. Normally it will be provided until the hard soil layer, so that the soft soil will be resisted by casing. The pre-boring process will be done first roughly around 4m to 6m. After that the casing will be installed. Then the boring will be continued until the required design depth. 2) Once the casting of pile completed, the casing will be removed prior to the final setting of concrete.
The length of the used steel casing is 12m. This is mainly because of the soft nature of the geotechnical profile. The longer casing used to eliminate the collapse of the soils during boring.
Hi, may I ask the skip that you used for topping up during steel casing extraction, is it opened by crane or by the man down there? Or can you share some detailed photos of the skip if it doesn't trouble you. thank you very much.
@@ProudtobeaCivilEngineer Oh i got it. Thank you for your explaination. All the job sequences are to be carried out or executed in accordance to quality and safety requirement for the project specific . I observed personnel working under a suspended load, within the swing radius of the machine which placed them in a line of fire. Such project aught to implored or lash onto the services of certified safety and quality personnel.
It's depends on the polymer material used. However for the above project, the viscosity of at least 60s but no higher than 100s was used as the criteria.
The tremie pipes need to be cut during pouring. However, it's quite hard to take video which covers full activity. Thank you for your concern. Kindly view our latest video related to Bored Piling Works for full activity. From Setting Out to Casing Removal.
It's not roughly surveyed. Actually we did the Setting-Out of Piles with a Licensed Surveyor. He marked the center of each piles with reinforcement bars. In order to verify the distance between two piles, we just counter-check with the measurement tape.
Normally the vibration will be measured during piling works. There is a allowable limit for vibration for each type of buildings like hospitals, commercial buildings, residential buildings etc.
This helps me a lot. Thanks

Polymer is also a drilling mud like bentonite that protect the drilling hole from collapse

what is the depth of prebore before insert the temporary casing?
Roughly around 3m to 4m from Ground Level
can we do bored piles diameter 450mm without temporary casing? and how to determine whether need to use temporary/permanent casing or not.

31:25 That's not how you conduct slump test for concrete. You don't twist the slump cone while removing it.
