- Playing to a drumless track of Tom Scholz' Masterpiece. This is one of my favourite songs of all time! My sister originally bought this album. I think she surrendered it to me once she realized how much I loved it. It's still in heavy rotation on my playlists today. Every song on this album is a classic.
I try to stay as true to the song as it was originally recorded and include as many camera angles as possible to give the viewer a clearer idea of what I'm doing. I know that when I'm trying to learn a song, it helps to see how other drummers are playing it.

Brother that is the best cover I have heard. You nailed that and then some. Outstanding!!!
Thank you very much! Glad you liked it and I appreciate the comment.
@@DomenicNardone can I ask you opinion. I'm 58 and a guitar player but always wanted to learn to play drums. Been looking at some electronic sets. Do you think they are good for beginners or get a small real kit.??
@OhioValleyWatchman I think an electronic kit will be fine for learning beats, rudiments and help with muscle memory, although an acoustic kit will help you learn how to tune and equalize your natural volume and dynamics around the kit.
Very well done sir. The cover and the video editing. 👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️
Thank you so much 😀
@@DomenicNardone 👍👍✌️✌️
Great job on this great classic song!!
Thanks Mike! Cheers!
Pure joy, thank you so much! I'm looking into playing a drum cover for it. Your example is very inspiring!

Hi Domenic, check out my Bruno Mars bass cover ua-cam.com/video/JSY5camv0Bc/v-deo.html. See what you think, many thanks👍
Awesome all the way through. The production value was stellar!
Much appreciated!
This is a wonderful video, my favorite 70s song of all time. I think of my Dad and riding around with him listening to Boston and Kansas and Chicago. I'm listening to it at half speed to learn it.
Cool! Glad you enjoyed it! Lot's of fond memories for me too.
Dang excellent job... right on the money. Drums sound Awesome
Thank you!!
Perfection 😭🤘🏻
Thanks!
NICE !!!! .. . .. .. .. .. one of my favorites to drum along to !!!

Perfect
Thanks Bobby T. Much appreciated!
This song is absolutely one of my favorites of all time as well!! So good, Domenic! Perfectly played & the sound is extraordinarily good, just like the original. Very well done man! 🤘🤘
Thanks very much Mike!
You’ve helped me maneuver so many tunes thanks for doing the videos and being an accurate player
Glad I could help. I'm not a formally trained drummer and I'm not a very good teacher so I'm glad these videos help as a teaching tool. Just hope you don't pick up on my bad drumming habits😝
Perfectly executed. Many have covered this song on the You Tubes, but only you & one other guy do it to Scholzian perfection. What many miss is the way Hashian sat in the groove for most of the song, but finally unleashes the missing cymbal crash on the last intro to chorus. Bravo!
Thanks very much! I appreciate the kind words!
Awesome job again Domenic!!
Thank you! Cheers!
👍🏼👍🏼I was looking for a new song to smash too, thanks
No problem
Great job I love your kit very well laid out.
Thanks! Cheers!
Amazing! I remember back in the day, playing this on 8-track while I learned drumming on my own. Excellent choice and of course a perfect job on your part. Thanks!
Hey Dom how about doing a full kit introduction? Your drums, sizes, heads, tunings, cymbals, sizes, hardware. You’re so versatile behind the kit and sound phenomenal. Do you gig the same kit or have two? Be great to know more about the man who’s the beat.
Thanks, I did one of those about 10 years ago. I think it may be time for a refresh, although most of my equipment is still the same LOL!
Awesome 😎👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Glad to see another video, even more so when its a cover of one of my favourite songs!
It's a classic!!
I love playing this song and it shows that you love it as well! Fantastic job on this Domenic !!
Thanks! Yeah, it's a fun song to play!
You're a very gifted musician. I like how you kept the "groove" to this song that many miss. I always look forward to see your work! Almost forgot, great fill at 2:23.
Thank you very much for the kind words generatorx!
Excellent!! I really appreciate the camera angles and seeing the kit.
This 58 y/o rookie is learning from you sir. Respect.
Glad I could help! Thanks!

sweet..!!
Thanks!
It's so fun to watch you play, Domenic, and I like the editing and lighting a lot, and I don't mean to impose; but I would love to hear you cover "got me under pressure", if you'd ever be willing.
Thanks Toyota Guy! Do you mean Got Me Under Pressure by ZZTop? Yeah, that's a good song. I'll put it on my list. I've got a bunch of others that i'm trying to get to as well :)
@@DomenicNardone Sorry, yes; ZZ Top, and THANK YOU SO MUCH! May God bless you. : )
Time less so good thank you
Thanks for watching!
Spot on as always Dom.

Great job, all around!! Nice!! 🤟🏻🤟🏻

Excellent Dom! Glad to see you back at it. JJ
Thanks JJ!! I haven't been consistent like you. Trying to get the spark back!
Love it, Dom! It has been awesome having you pop up in the subs again lately! That Pearl kit is still an absolute beauty as well! 🤘🏻
Thanks very much Dan!
Excelente cover, felicidades Domenic.
Thank you!!
As usual, your drumming skills are fire 🔥 . But I just can't help but also appreciate the amazing cinematography here! You really stepped up your game in the production! :D
Thanks very much! Yeah, I like the editing process as much as the drumming.
Nice work man
Sweet job!
Thanks!!
Great
Nice and the sound is very good also!

Thank you for a great cover, I learnt alot that I can bring to my own playing.
You're welcome, glad I could help!
Awesome job Dom. Your playing and vids are always top notch. Have a rockin’ day my friend.

Thank you very much Joe! I'm trying to get back to some consistency with my drum video output.
Hey Dom! Superbe job! Content de te revoir. Beau Pearl! 🥁
Portes toi bien..🤘🤘🤘
Merci!!
Definitely a classic rock tune Dom!! Awesome video editing and drumming!! Sounds great as well!!
Thanks a lot!
Great job! Subscribed
Thanks for watching and thanks for the support. I really appreciate it!
Hey great start to the year Dom. Always a top listen, sound, groove, and those video transitions Uber cool dude…
Thanks very much! Happy New Year!!
This was so cool. Although I have a long way to go, I have been learning pieces of it (I use the opening drum combo as a fill, when I'm practicing beats). I'm sure this will come in very handy for learning it (I've already spotted some things). So thanks. Great cover as always.
Thanks very much!
Sib lives! 👍🏻
🤟
Jim Masdea and Tom Scholz came up with that, Sib Hasian made it famous. ❤
good job
Thanks!

Thank you!
Did you change mics? The snare mic looks like it would get in the way. I like the reverb heavy sound though. Kinda mimics Boston’s sound. Great cover once again.
I just moved the snare mic to be closer to the side-stick for this recording. Yeah it was a pain in the ass, but it wasn't picking up the sound as well as I liked :).
I grew up listening to Boston and as a novice drummer I thought I could play this one okay but caught all kinds of errors I will enjoy correcting in the future. I refer to Dom as my drum instructor, I learn best by watching. Thanks! Hey ... what happened to Hairy Mulligan?
Thanks Hangtime31! Unfortunately Hairy Mulligan is no more 😔
👌👍
what kind of cymbals are those? they look vintage and sound amazing!
Yeah, they're pretty old. They are a combination of Zildjian and Sabians. The China is a Wuhan. HiHats are Sabian AA.
start with a new drumhead on your snare. What DAW do you use? Than balance the mix as it is , so no fancy plugins for starters. Do you use drum busses? Try to get the drum sound as even as you can before applaying plugins on the seperate tracks. Focus mainly on the overall sound before dive into the seperate tracks. The balance between the overheads and room mic and the rest of the tracks also can nmake a huge difference in the mix. Have fun mixing!
Well done sir. What snare are you using?6.5X14? Well recorded and produced.
Thank you! Yes it's a 6.5x14 Pearl Sensi-tone snare. It came standard with the kit.
بالتوفيق للجميع 👍👍👍👍👍
I just posted some drumming videos on my UA-cam drum channel and sounding great
Nice done, drums sound ok but could use a bit mix improvement
Thanks for the comment! Got any tips? I'm bit all over the place when mixing.
Not bad, not bad at all. Grade: C minus.
C Minus? That's pretty bad!
@@DomenicNardone Gotta do better next time then, don't you?
Only joking! Amazing cover, my dude! And if I were to grade this, I couldn't, cos it'd need to be higher than an A.
Seriously, nice work :) Much love from Bangladesh x
