If anyone wants to make it as close to your own apartment/home, you could take photos of your floor, carpets, walls etc. And turn those into seamless textures (many ways to do it, even upload to a site and it does it for you) - then apply them onto your models. I did this few years ago and it felt incredible haha.

Hi, this can absolutely be done-right now the controllers don’t have any interaction. I hope to extend on this, but didn’t include it as natural movement was the key issue here. I hope I can add new episodes to this tutorial soon-and include controller movenent and interactions!

Is there a way to implement the outward facing cameras? I have dogs and I’m wondering if there’s a way to track other non static objects so I don’t step on my poor Beagle.

If you stick to one room and have a Vive you can attach a Vive tracker to your dog - which is a perfectly normal thing to do. Other headsets or multiple rooms might require you to do the same with one ot your two controllers.

Oh awesome can't wait! It would be pretty sweet to be in the same virtual space. You could even invite them over and explore the house together. I am starting with my uipstairs but mapping the staircase out is pretty tricky because I am trying to get accurate measurements.
I’m at 6:45 and you mentioned “measuring your apartment.” Is there a possibility that you can extract the raw information from the Oculus Quest Guardian system so that you can just import what you have scanned? Alternatively, could you use a 3D scanning app on a smartphone to extract the same measurements?

Maybe install a new very similar version with android build tools and try to open your project in that editor instead? And thanks!!

I scaled every thing in VR to apartment almost perfectly... ALMOST perfectly... I had a serious calibration issue. I went to take a dump in my VR overlay over my "Real" apartment. Let me tell you, a few Millimeters off makes a HUGE difference. I craped all over the %$%#ing seat. Missed the inside of the bowl COMPLETLY! Then on top of that... in the VR world I had plenty of toilet paper but Oooooh not in the real world! Thought I was wiping my A$$ with real paper. When I took the headset off I had $#!t all over my Gott-Dam hands!!! Just do it right is all I'm saying.
Followed this guide in anticipation of my Quest 2 coming in for Christmas. The process was super simple, and it was nice having modeling and build/export info in one well-produced video. Added hand tracking to my build, so now it's a waiting game until I can test it in the headset :) Thanks for the wonderful tutorial!
If we learned one thing from this video, its that this guy has a sick ass apartment Oh, and also how to model in unity, how to create rooms, making 3d objects, props, lighting, camera placement, vr map design basics, etc.
I reckon a remake of this tutorial with Unity 3.0.0 could be pretty good, there's a few changes in terms of setup layout and it now has a VR core in the templates when making a new project too.
Totally, in fact that was what I was thinking about watching the video. Also I guess that if you have an old xbox kinect and an scanning app like skanect or someone similar, you could scan your room/house in 3d, insert it in unity and scale properly so bam, you have your real textures and objects integrated. They will look a little awful as 3d scanning has its limitations but I think it leads to many interesting possibilities. In fact if I can find the time I'll try it, I'll let you know if I succeded or terribly failed XD

For some reason when I attempt to place the .obj, it says it’s in my scene and when I reset its postition to where I am, it doesn’t show its object and only a empty. But when I open the .obj in 3D objects, it’s there. help?

Tutorial is dope but I get stuck at the OVR rig recognizing my tracked remote. All it says is mixed for both and no option for tracking. Any help? Thanks!
@@AltVR_UA-cam Just got to the same issue. At 21:33 where you click the drop down menu in the Inspector for Controller there are no R Tracked Remote or L Tracked Remote options. All other options are there. Just came across it myself. Great tutorial btw, I'm sure this is just a hiccup my end

When I do this everything is fine except for the fact there are oculis quest 2 controllers on the floor, not my actual controllers but models, I have tried hiding them, they appear when you add the controller model to the oculus camera, any solution?

Anyone having trouble with the floor? at first I just kept falling. now i changed mesh collider to box collider (not the 2d option), added this same thing to the OVRplayer controller and rigidbody too. Now I don't pass through the floor but the camera falls to the plane and goes crazy... Can anyone help me, please?

Everything in my view is white so if I select something else I cannot see anything. makes positioning impossible. why do I always get these problems with 3d software.. :(
This would be hard to make but really cool, u should make a game that uses the quest cameras to scan out ur playspace/room, the turns that room into vr, and into a game where u have to shoot enemy robots that attack u in ur room in vr.

If people started using be more people could use this as a way to see if they want to paint there walls a color or tear down a wall and see if they like it, try different furniture arrangements without the hassle of actually moving it till you get the look you like.

(physics plug in or code im guessing) 2. imort on the fly a simple image (just jpg for text on the fly in the space from a local folder on the host computer: 3, (this make what i masking serious possible, excellent £££ start up software company. some how have a to website out the vr space. (that last one might need some elaboration)
Grabbing moving objects in play mode? You can always switch to scene mode even during play but I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Importing and using images locally is no problem; there’s probably loads of tutorials for that.

Not all objects can be dragged in. Try import instead

I’d use Blender for the 3D model part and take that model into Unity and follw the steps after modelling the apartment!

If people started using be more people could use this as a way to see if they want to paint there walls a color or tear down a wall and see if they like it, try different furniture arrangements without the hassle of actually moving it till you get the look you like.

sir im begging tfor you explain something, i can contact formal by email if you prefer, im autistic a slow learner with people but fast with tech. do you have any advice/ tutorial for grabbing moving 1.objects in in the vr space play mode. (physics plug in or code im guessing) 2. imort on the fly a simple image (just jpg for text on the fly in the space from a local folder on the host computer: 3, (this make what i masking serious possible, excellent £££ start up software company. some how have a to website out the vr space. (that last one might need some elaboration)
Grabbing moving objects in play mode? You can always switch to scene mode even during play but I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Importing and using images locally is no problem; there’s probably loads of tutorials for that.
when i try to run the *_UnityHubSetup.exe_* file i get a message saying *_setup was not completed successfully_* any help?
I’ve no idea, never experienced that before. Should be other people on the web as it’s a general Unity problem though. Best of luck

I've been able to get all this to work. However, I can't figure out how to get the beginning head direction to be consistent. One time I'm facing one direction, another time I'm facing a different one.
