You can use the glitch where you don't have to register a ship to sell it if you want to make even more credits. There's a few videos on UA-cam showing how to do it. As far as I know, it hasn't been patched in any of the updates and still works.
Thanks Mike. I looked at this, but my quick impression was this was just a little too over the exploit-line for me. I might have misread it (controller trick?). PC players also have direct console commands and some mods already go far beyond. No judgement if it works. I always say, you bought the game, play it exactly how you want. This is a single player experience and no one is harming anyone else. I try to stay nearly vanilla, but I do like StarUI and prior to the March 19 patch I had to use a console command to move a box and get a Skill Magazine. I already had the achievements so I did it and moved on.
I totally agree. There is no point in making any computer game too easy by using console commands, mods or in game glitchs. If there's no challenge, then where's the fun.
Yes! Veronica has the credits. If you have a few smaller ships to sell and maybe one big one, you can go to the Ship Services guy, Taiyo and Stroud Ekland (kiosk with 75k I think).
I almost hate to admit how many moons and iterations I've tested. 20 might be half but likely less than a third. I ran another 20 this morning while watching UA-cam and then tested on 4-5 other moons. It's a puzzle, but I'll be returning to gameplay videos this weekend!
So I followed your tips, and found a landing pad on IIb. I got 2 ships there, so I built an outpost about 270 meters away and went to sleep on Venus. When I returned there was an FC rail star II on the pad, empty and unflyable. I left and went to different moons and different systems, but it sits there with "you are not authorized..." I'm piloting 4 level. So I packed up my outpost and found another place. Now I either get Star born or UC Vanguard ships. I'm off to try IIa to see if it's better.
I had an Ecliptic ship report as unavailable. I returned outside and found the patrol (they weren't present when I went in), killed them and could then take the ship. However, I will note that Ship Landing Sites do seem to become blocked if a ship is there that can't be flown away. I was testing on a level 14 character, leveled piloting up to 4 in the simulator and could never move one specific ship. I move on and find new SLSs. When a ship falls into a special category, like UC/FC it makes sense they might block them even if you can lock pick your way in. I've just not tried a lot of those. I also don't tend to put down Outpost Beacons near those sites. People do it but I treat SLSs to be a bit more transient vs. being permanently farmable spots. Packing up the outpost and moving it makes sense as you've described it. Across many moons, I have 2-3 landing spots, one of which is usually active. I bounce around between moons when needed.
Great video, thank you. May I make a suggestion about making the process of ship farming more efficient by placing an outpost as Close as it will allow to take ship landing site, I think it's around 250m ish. This enables you to do your quick save then travel straight to your outpost icon. You may already know this, but if not I hope it helps.
Thanks. I have seen that suggested, but haven't tried it. I tend to take a cautious line (originally saving in orbit like the old days). :) Combining that with the number of planets I've tested this on and the outpost beacon wasn't on my list. Definitely appreciate you sharing it here. I'm sure people will do try it too. If I make a third ship hunting video, I'll use it. I tested this with a level 14 new character last night so that might be something for the non-NG+ focus.
So I been using your method it works great thanks just wanted to let you know I landed on Copernicus 3 Moon and I got a UC truck II it's a holler the funny thing was had ecliptic outside and Va rune inside had to take them out before I took the ship
So my experience with Ship Landing Sites and when they show up on the scanner is only when they actually have a ship. It also seems if/when you get close to one that is empty it will spawn a ship. So maybe they did not kill ships spawning and landing .. they just now require you to be within a certain radius to cause the ship to spawn and land for you to see it. I have found numerous landing sites with ships present. I wonder if building a scan booster lets you detect from further away?
After reading your comment (and because I find this phenomenon fascinating), I fired up the game and jumped to Hawking I-A (barren, craters, He-3, no atmo/mag, etc). I wanted to see the distances for POIs. I had been there before days ago, single landing location. Not sure if I found anything before. I picked a random location on the moon that had no marker and presumably a tile that would be generated during my cut scene. Landed, exited the ship, jumped on top of my ship. I saw a compound/building at 700m+, spun around and there was a Ship Landing Site (SLS) marker on my scanner at 373. Visible immediately. Pulled out the Hard Target with the scope, could NOT see a ship on that SLS at less than 400m. Ran over. Nothing on the SLS. Grav Jump to Copernicus IV, 12 hour sleep. Returned to a different location on Hawking I-A, made a Quicksave, jumped back to the location where the empty SLS was found. Ran up and a Crimson Fleet Wight III appeared as I ran up. Did a restore of the Quicksave, came back and this time an Ecliptic Claymore III dropped in after the sonic boom. This is where the correlation vs. causation discussion comes up. I keep seeing things that strongly correlate, but none of it [for me] proves causation. I have zero doubt you saw exactly what you saw maybe even multiple times, enough to make it convincing. That's all I'm seeing, correlation. It's all inside the Bethesda black-box that is Starfield. Still it's like a puzzle I don't mind playing with from time to time. ;) Thanks for commenting (and watching)!
Just to add to the data, I landed on Serpentis IIa and wandered onto an empty sls. Nothing came. Slept at Copernicus came back, nothing. I have got nothing to pop on that site.

I found a SLS on Kreet near the lab we visit at the start. It triggerer very low level ships and one time just a group of Ecliptic fighting the Terrormorph. I went back because long, long ago I found a Vista III sitting there. It needed a new home and owner so I helped out.
I looked at this, but my impression was this was just a little too over the exploit-line for me (controller trick?) No judgement if it works for anyone else. I always say, you bought the game, play it exactly how you want. This is a single player experience and no one is harming anyone else.

There are also more vendors in Neon so at least three there (Ship Services outside with 72k , Stroud-Eklund on the Core with 75k, and Taiyo Astroneering with 160k).
I am curious if the Freedom ship that offers the delivery package quest still lands? I've not yet download the latest patch as I have auto updates turned off but after watching this video it seems more promising.
I've seen several custom ships spawn on these sites. Two different traders, followed by robots. One Captain Paisley with some kind of large lizard pet she's walking around. The damaged UC Vanguard Longsword III with the surprised captain inside. Haven't seen the package people on the ground though.
@@kineer Had a bit of a brain mishap, I meant to say Freestar ship, the Autobahn II to be specific. This ship will land at random with a crew aboard, the captain offers the package.

Just started playing the game only level 23 right now so I never really was able to get a new ship what is technique work around the beginning of the game
Welcome to Starfield. I've been focused on a NG+ walkthrough so this isn't the best fit. I have done it in pre-NG+, but with a much higher level character. From my early days in the game, I remember the Razorleaf being a major upgrade from the Frontier. If you follow along the main quests you will likely fight Spacers and one will drop a slate describing a "Secret Outpost." I won't go much beyond that to avoid spoilers, but that's a good early ship that will last for quite a while. Be ready for a fun and involved fight in a great location. With that said, it's also hard to beat the Freestar Ranger's quest reward. Not only will become a Ranger when you complete it, but you'll get a great ship that can carry you the rest of the game with some minor upgrades over time. That is a long and involved line, but I've done it several times and it's still fun. Enjoy! edit: I did find a Ship Landing Site on Kreet once and test there. It brought in Class A ships, but might spawn some higher level ships. Unless you level of Piloting, you'll be stuck with the lower level ships for a bit.
Absolutely. Once you have something other than a Starborn Guardian you can do that. The Frontier has a bed, but I don't recall if it has the jump range to reach the highest level planets. I'll also note that once you grab your first higher tier ship, all options are open from that point forward (including easier space combat).
I've done Freestar several times, but not in this New Game Plus iteration. I thought in the full United Colonies quest line you get a 'citizens' discount after completion. I don't recall the Freestar Collective offering anything similar. The real question is do the employees give you a discount for killing RH? So far, I just seen the bug where two security guards fight me every time I enter the building (long after completing the quest). :)
This strategy works great for me, but for some reason I never get a Hyena or Wight III, only II's. The only high end ships I get at III are the Claymore, Falcata, Prophesy, and Dirge. I've tried on Serpentis II-a, Archimedes IV-a, and Hawking I-a. I'm level 102 on my first NG+. Any idea on how I could get a Hyena or Wight III to spawn? Either of those are the ship I really want.
The Hyenas and Wights come in streaks for me. My theories about specific types not showing up on specific planets was modified when I started getting Va’Ruun Prophsesy IIIs on Archimedes IV-A. Doesn’t mean BGS doesn’t build something into their algo about the system, just means it’s not zero probability. I've recently been testing with a level 14 character and he picked up Hyena (class C, level "I"). Then for 20+ drops, all class A and B. I also tested with a level 5 character (using Androphon and Venus). The level 5 had zero luck on drops or activating a Ship Landing Site (SLS) that was found empty. This goes back to the correlation vs. causation issue. I see correlation between moons that are 'barren, cratered, He-3, no atmo, no mag' and triggered with a 'long sleep' on Copernicus IV or Venus. In my own theory, He-3 is part of the removed ship refueling mechanic discussed by Todd Howard on the late 2022 Lex Fridman interview. Enemy ships land on these places because they need fuel and don’t frequent legitimate space ports. I believe this enough to have never tested this approach on planets/moons without He-3. However, the loot tables certainly have other factors which MIGHT include things like the system level, your character level, the specific tile you land in, and story/quest/advancement. Just difficult to tell without a lot of data or and insider at BGS. 😊 As mentioned above the level 14 character had success, but only got the basic Wight when he moved to a Level 30 system (Porrima I-A). I also tried on Guniibuu III-B. Ship types, class, levels all changed. It seems the loot pool stays the same during the short restore cycle, but might update during ‘long sleeps’ in the same way Starstation enemies and content resets. As a final note, this could also be generated when the planetary ‘tile’ is generated for the first time. I could continue to hop around Porrima I-A and potentially get a new ship-loot pool. I would expect them to still be leveled appropriately. My suggestion, stick with the higher level moons that fit the profile. Even if you’ve found a ‘working’ SLS, maybe look for another in a new spot and work that one.
@@kineer Ok, cool. Thanks for the quick response. I haven't done nearly as much testing as you, but it does seem like there is a set pool of ships. The only difference between your vid and what I'm doing, that I can tell, seems to be that you already have 6 artifacts. So far I've only completed "The Old Neighborhood" on my NG+. I almost got my butt kicked in my Starborn Guardian by the 3 lvl 14 Va'ruun ships encountered in that quest, and I decided it was time to try to farm an upgrade. I think I'm just going to upgrade a Claymore or Prophesy III and try again after I've collected 6 artifacts. Another somewhat easy way I was able to collect higher end ships in my first playthrough was just cruising around to all the planets and moons in higher lvl systems. I got a couple Highlander and Autobahn III's that way. I might give that a go. Anyway, thanks again for getting back to me. And thanks for making such easy to follow and entertaining vids!
I am doing an 'alternate universe', the one where Walter tries to shake you down for cash in order to turn over the artifacts. That discussion turned kinetic and I received what I'll call the "Basic Lodge Main-Quest Skip Bundle" from his corpse. :) As I recall from my NG+1, I told Sarah I was Starborn immediately and she handed over the same kit and the main quest line was taken off the board. If you are doing the main quest line, I assume you have to 'work' for all the artifacts just like pre-NG+. Does that have an impact on the ship drop rate/types? It doesn't feel like it should be related, you are getting ships, just not all the ships. Who can really tell if there's not another variable in play? In my own NG+ iterations, the moment I get a Claymore III I move on as I know it's more than sufficient for everything else I want to do in the game. I don't grind ships (or legendary gear for that matter) for profit or collection. I'm just going to walk away from them as I move on to the next NG+. I have a practical need, get out of the Starborn Guardian. When I get all my powers to 10, I might do more of this. For now my ship-garage is stacked from the testing. If I can think of something useful to do with those ships for the channel I will. Cheers and thanks for the discussion.
Good question. I think they are always going to be a smaller part of the loot table / ship table for the landing sites. In space, I think you see far more of them if you wanted to take them over.
I tested some low level systems on much lower (non-NG+) characters. My level 5 could not trigger ships at all. My level 14 was able to do it. However, I had to go to a level 30 system before I started getting decent ships. Were you getting high level ships (compared to your character level) on Mercury?
@@kineer I got two ships on Mercury they were falcata 3 I believe and they were high level on the inside, I didn't see any bigger ships but I didn't stay long. I'm level 200 something though so it seems much st enemies are higher level. I like Mercury though it's totally flat and it's easy to see potential landing sights. I had a smuggler land also.
Are you in NG+ yet? I noticed when testing on my lvl 103 (original game) that I got a LOT of Starborn Guardians showing up at Ship Landing Sites. Once I was into NG+ they never land.
No. I've tested this method with a level 14 character in the original game. I did have to go to level 30 systems (moons), but was able to find the same Ship Landing Site mechanic and farm ships. My (now) level 16 is flying a Crimson Fleet Wight (class C ; level "I" but they don't put the "I" on the title). All that said, with the MAY UPDATE - Currently in Beta on Steam this shouldn't be necessary in a few weeks.
In testing this I found a Claymore III that had no crew inside and no one outside. I was not allowed to sit in the pilot seat. I then went outside and found three Ecliptic on patrol. Wiped them out quickly, went back in the ship and was able to claim it. I am 100% confident I looked for them before I went in. Strange sequencing bug.
I have used this ship capture technique with characters as low as level 7 (did that last night). The ships that are available are highly dependent on the specific moon though. So for my lowest level character I find class A, entry level enemy ships. When I get to level's 15 (or so), I try to find level 30 moons to farm. If you're up for it, I also recommend joining UC Vanguard to get access to the training simulator. I will often grind up to Piloting 4/4 just so I can take the best ships I can find. On more than one occasion, I've been able to capture Class C ships for low level characters. They won't be the top version of the ship, e.g. A "Crimson Fleet Wight" vs. a "Crimson Fleet Wight III" but they are still nice ships.
I do think there's something to this idea. That we can't see them until we get close is strange. However, this might even be exactly how they behaved back to launch, but I/we didn't notice because we didn't have to. My memory isn't good enough to recall. ;)
@@kineer yeah, I started back in November, and I have always found ships on the ground after you look a little, but you could see them even 700m away or more, now you have to be on top of them. I found one that appeared at 120m, that sucks.
@@kineer Greetings! Thank you for your reply. Thanks to your save file, and save files from several others, we were able to determine the cause of the issue that prevents enemy ships from landing on planets since Update 3. This issue will be resolved in a future update.

Once you have something other than a Starborn Guardian you can do that. The Frontier has a bed, but I don't recall if it has the jump range to reach the highest level planets.
I'll also note that once you grab your first higher tier ship, all options are open from that point forward (including easier space combat).
Have you done the Freestar quest yet? Will that have any impact on selling inside on Hopetech?
I've done Freestar several times, but not in this New Game Plus iteration. I thought in the full United Colonies quest line you get a 'citizens' discount after completion. I don't recall the Freestar Collective offering anything similar. The real question is do the employees give you a discount for killing RH? So far, I just seen the bug where two security guards fight me every time I enter the building (long after completing the quest). :)
@kineer that's a bug? I had no idea. Thought it was just bad blood for killing him. Haha, ok good to know.
As mentioned above the level 14 character had success, but only got the basic Wight when he moved to a Level 30 system (Porrima I-A).
As I recall from my NG+1, I told Sarah I was Starborn immediately and she handed over the same kit and the main quest line was taken off the board.
Do you think if you go in UC territory you might still UC ships
Good question. I think they are always going to be a smaller part of the loot table / ship table for the landing sites. In space, I think you see far more of them if you wanted to take them over.
How has it been for you the last few days, its kind of dried up for me? Very hard to find anything, all my regular spots have really slowed down.
I haven't chased a lot of new ships since my last test, but will note the 'ship bug' meant it was nice to have an extra Claymore III 'in the garage.'
@@kineer I just got a ship on Mercury, used to be a hot spot for ships, well very hot indeed 🔥
These damn unity ships keep spawning 😂
Are you in NG+ yet? I noticed when testing on my lvl 103 (original game) that I got a LOT of Starborn Guardians showing up at Ship Landing Sites. Once I was into NG+ they never land.
Does it have to be an alternate dimension?
Im level 69 and haven’t heard a sonic boom in over a month.
I’m going to try your method later thanks bro
Is the new update supposed to help with the no ship stealing may I ask?
Is it normal to have so many starborn ships spawn? Every load is one almost
Are you in NG+ or before?
@@kineer yea first go at NG+ probably not gonna do it again, not worth it imo
It worked. Got to the entry for the Claymore III and, wait for it, it was inaccessible 🙂 Are you fkm?
In testing this I found a Claymore III that had no crew inside and no one outside. I was not allowed to sit in the pilot seat. I then went outside and found three Ecliptic on patrol. Wiped them out quickly, went back in the ship and was able to claim it. I am 100% confident I looked for them before I went in. Strange sequencing bug.
Check this out. I went to another planet, and when I returned, all the ecliptic were standing up dead on the landing pad. Wish I’d taken a photo.
The question is what level of player do I have to be
I have used this ship capture technique with characters as low as level 7 (did that last night).
I'm thinking the ships are still landing, we are not getting the graphic animation of the ship.
This issue will be resolved in a future update.

well good news they are going to fix this!!
That's cool. Did you submit it on the discord or is there another channel?
try in 3rd person
Does it impact the visibility of the SLS or it more of a general request for the videos? :)
hey,i cant find a single ship in propably 5 moons and im trying 3 hours
🥲
Happy to offer suggestions. Which moons are you trying? What's your level? Are you NG+. I've tested with characters down to level 14 and it works. I've had good luck with moons with He-3, crater biome, no atmosphere, no flora/fauna, etc.
