- Life is Strange Dev DeckNine Games are working up to the announcement of a new LiS title to follow on Before the Storm and True Colors. This could be a really nice pairing for Lost Records: Bloom and Rage. The upcoming game is due a reveal soon - but we first need to address Deck9 's recent controversy... I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but I feel like there was a certain magic to the first game that they never managed to recapture again because instead of creating an experience, they're focused on trying to repeat the cues that made the first one a success. Basically it went from being a story to being a product.
this captures exactly how i feel - LiS 1 was lightning in a bottle - it came out at the right time, in the right place. but DONTNOD never intended for it to become a huge commercial success, and likely just wanted to make similar artsy games, without worrying too much about profit. it's SE who seems to be hellbent on trying to make Life is Strange 1: the sequel
Completely agree! The first game was AMAZING. After that,I couldn't even make it passed two hours of the second and third game.

I actually only like LIS2. Feel like it perfected where LIS1 fell short. I didn't dislike LIS1, so much as I think LIS2 was an improvement on what they'd already done. Plus that story just appealed more to me because I'm a sucker for stories about brothers haha!
ls1 for sure had something special about it. I skipped 2 but I still watched people play it. Reason I skipped it.... well... dont hate on me but it was because the main character was a guy and not a girl 😅 I loved true colours which is weird to say after watching this video. But I couldnt really give a favourite between 1 and TC. I love them so much.
LIS deserves a better dev community than this.

Before the Storm was fine, True Colors was bad imo. So I don't really care about another weak game trying to pray on LiS title from them.
I want Life is Strange 3, I want to see what LiS 2 did. Something new; a different coherent story showing us how life can be unpredictable and strange sometimes. The theme of LiS & LiS2 that made me personally fall in love with those games.

@@CucuOnGamesfrom what I’ve seen, Lost Records seems more like Tell Me Why. I enjoyed Tell Me Why, but it felt like it was missing something the whole game. They also left too many things up to personal interpretation, which can be good but it just made the story feel incomplete and parts of it shoehorned in.
I’m still eager to learn more about it though!

Already moved on from Deck Nine. I didn't love their handling of a lot of sensitive issues and their lack of well-balanced portrayals (that aren't of bisexual women). I also never liked the "life is suffering and a soulmate" narrative that Dontnod during LiS2 fortunately replaced with a strong focus on healthy coping and non-toxic belonging - something that an oftentimes vulnerable LiS player needs in order to not be negatively affected or influenced. It feels like D9 keeps repeating the mistakes DN made in LiS1 and that they (DN) corrected with LiS2. Especially with Tell me Why, although that's another DN team. So the D9 allegations of a dysfunctional writer's room makes sense to me. I'm also gonna say (to myself: I won't get started on the delusional Warren short posted by SE) that I'm really looking forward to Bloom and Rage.

the scene where warren beats up nathan is literally written to be pretty horrifying to watch. are we just past acknowledging that nathan was extremely mentally ill + messed up on drugs + being groomed? i don't particularly like him, i think even in his more lucid moments he's a prick, but that's literally AWFUL
they hardly even advertised that you could romance steph in the trailers 🙄 it’s giving they were jealous for the idea not being original and talking about their sexuality in the studio would mean giving the credit where it is deserved

This is such a shame, true colors is one of my favourite stories of all time and gave me a safe space to relax through the hardest times in my life. It feels like a complete betrayal that the company behind this game is led by people who are the complete opposite to the inclusive mentality of the games that I love, I am just so grateful that everyone else at the studio fought so hard to make the game I love as great as it is
it's genuinely so admirable that people still managed to craft something they really loved - and something that meant so much to all of us :) thank you for watching
Its such a shame that many just straight up hate TC (just check the comments here for example) and i gotta say, I LOVED IT
it was peaceful, calming, beautifully crafted and the story was nice. while it has its own flaws, i don't think i can call the game mid or downright bad.
for the last month I've been checking different websites just to see whether people are talking about it or no , i also went on a visual novel game run just to satisfy the itch and would really love to see more from Alex (which probably wouldn't happen).
Dontnod should do the next lis game. Seriously all Decknine did was terrible

Personally I found true colours very boring, I only watched game play once and found it disappointing. Sad as I was really looking forward to it. Starts great and then slips. But I hope the new one if it does come out is much better story wise.
yeah honestly, i really enjoy the little moments in TC, but it's just so disappointing in a sense of its overarching story
Listening to this video, I can see why it may have gotten this way, (others may have found this a great game. I did like the characters in TC, it just had a boring story and anti climatic ending 😢) it sounded truly chaotic there, I feel so bad for the writers and staff.

this is why i only trust dontnod, i couldn't care less about decknine or whatever they're going to do with the lis series, especially after hearing all this. i'm only looking forward to lost records.

Always knew deck9 sucked but people got caught up in the hype of BTS.
i think it's so sad, because it's clear the individuals working on the team have a lot of love + passion for what they do, but D9 literally just exists to be a cheap DONTNOD alternative to Square
@@CucuOnGames this is true. Its sad because D9 just dont have the LiS DNA in their studio. You can see throughout their games how hard they try to include things that same “life is strange”y, and its off-putting. On the other hand you have Dontnod whose second game was completely different from the first yet still effortlessly felt like a life is strange game.
As you said there seems to be passionate individuals at D9, I wish they would be given the creative freedom to make a new story driven/choice based game that isn’t LiS, they would probably shine more that way.

from the trailers alone gives off a bit of that vibes similar to LiS.
Man what is going on at Deck Nine. From the issues with Zak, management being trash, and the Nazi references in the dev build of a LiS game. If Deck Nine are the only developer making Life is Strange games, and this upcoming game is bad, then i’m out, and that hurts to say. I mostly didn’t like True Colours, thought it was pretty boring a lot of the time. Haven’t played it again since finishing my first playthrough.
i totally get it, it's really sad watching it happen :( but this is what happens when people try to milk a franchise!
@@CucuOnGames Guess we can thank Square Enix for that. Trying to milk LiS the moment the first game becomes successful. I’ve always felt that True Colours is just a cheap attempt at trying to recapture what made Life is Strange 1 great, but it doesn’t come close. If these leaks about Max coming back are true, then i feel like that’s a desperate move from both Square and D9 imo that shouldn’t happen
True Colors has a 89% positive rating on steam and other platforms but still people on reddit and youtube always complain about true colors even tho the vast majority enjoyed the game. Talking about an echo chamber. This proves that youtube and reddit comments are not representative.
@2yt4u.14. passive consumers who play the game will still enjoy it - the game itself is fine, it doesn't have any glaring issues, but it's not what a lot of LiS fans wanted. it's not that these online circles are "echo chambers", it's that dedicated fans likely have different things they want.
hitman: absolution is widely considered to be a "good" game by those who played it, but almost all hitman fans agree that it's the worst in the franchise

I can't get excited for another Deck Nine LIS game. This was before any of this came to light, Before True Colors was way too blah for me. I'm waiting for Lost Records: Bloom & Rage.

so in the other worldline (worldline B or beta worldline with a divergence value between 1.000000β and 1.999999β) - we see that Max Caulfield is in the Vortex club, and her name there was 'Maxine'. So in that worldline attractor field, Max was two times in the Vortex club (max + Courtney as they are the same VA). The creators of Life is Strange said that they are currently making a new life is strange 4, where Max and Chloe continue living (after they destroyed Arcadia Bay). I hope that the creators will make the time travel duo (Max and Chloe) try to reach Steins;gate, steins gate worldline is a worldline in which both Chloe and Arcadia Bay stays alive (which is mildly hinted in the bonus episode where 13 year old max and chloe are playing.. at the end of this bonus episode, Chloe plays an audio tape which Max recorded. If you hear the audio tape then there are clues that it's actually future Max that recorded this audio tape, suggesting that Max will try to time travel again to save both Chloe and Arcadia Bay
Lis 1 will always be my favorite LIS in the franchise enjoyed True colors but hearing this is quite unfortunate.
I had no idea of the hell they had to go through just to work on this game... I hope their next projects have better development experiences. You guys deserve the world for the art you create. Don't let the higher ups take away your dignity! We can wait, we can boycott, we can support YOU, sometimes the best thing to do is to share these articles with the fans... I hope LiS 4 is going well, and thank you to all who've personally gave True colors their personal touch of color. I see a lot of critics towards LiS TC but I personally enjoyed it and loved it's characters and setting

I hope they solve their issues soon- a lot of them are starting to act like the characters in the first game. They should know better than that, especially when they see the things that happen to their own characters they made/created. The first game and before the storm will always be unmatched, it’s hard to create something like that again. They need a new team if people aren’t willing to cooperate (I’m talking about that zack guy, not the women.) You shouldn’t have to fear your safety, nor fear being fired for stuff like that at a work place. It’s supposed to be professional. That thing about “embracing” uncomfortable topics, is definitely something that shouldn’t be normalized or embraced. In fact, that makes him sound pretty crazy for suggesting it- art doesn’t always have to be about gore, misogyny, racism, and r@p3 like people think. Sure, it’s nice to bring up topics for awareness (like kate,) but not to that extent
Life is strange is the twilight of video games, you have a gamers who love this game and you have other gamers who absolutely hate this game.
This explains alot why Dontnod didn't make Tell Me Why with Square-Enix...

There is a game called lost records: bloom and rage coming out this year. It's another life is strange. But about a band.

it's not an official life is strange; but their own spiritual successor. They can't use the 'lis' label, since they basically sold it. So unless they were working with deck9, and having to basically suffer unable to make choices they want, they went their own way; make a game much akin to how they made LIS, but with its own label. still supernatural vibe, still characters we will love even if we won't see the old ones (due to them being tied to LIS, rights, etc) , but a rebranded title. It'll be exciting!
I really loved lis, lis before the storm (because Chloe's my favourite) and lis 2. I started with the lis 2 because i thought it was free (only the first episode was) and after i played it fully i thought 'okay ill get all of them then'. Life is strange: True colors was kind of a dissapointment for me. The first time i tried it i thought it was okeyish even tho i didnt finish it.Tried again and i kind of dislike the mc. Maybe its because im used to play as a teenager and its more natural to me. I really want life is strange 3. Also i feel like the people who dont really like life is strange before the storm dont really see Chloes perspective. Obviously she's not always right but its hard to be someone who makes right decisions and assumptions when you are all alone and cant trust anyone.
If Life is Strange brings this much turmoil to the Devs, maybe we need to slow them down a bit?
Allegations are pretty easily thrown at people and developers these days. I seriously cant believe that they are all true tho.
This is just the way you deal with people you dont want in certain positions these days.. sadly!
It baffles me how such a lovely game is created in such a toxic and straight up fucked up environment. A studio like this wouldve been the last I would ever think of being like this. The game is like a polar oposite of the studio. Of course I'm not hating on everyone at the studio. But obviously I'm sure theres still some really nice and hardworking people there, you guys are fucking awesome!

i feel in the minority here.... something about LIS 1 was lightning in the bottle because of how flexible the time powers where if you made a mistake you could always go back, also the story was entertaining to add the mystery, the storm, and the apocalyptic signs at the end of every episode while they are in a small town I genuinely think now that the LIS series garnered a lot of LGBTQ what the company is setting out to do is what you stated benefit out of the fans through pleasing them AKA fanservice, something about the other games felt completely empty, and to add a heavy subject for the sake of it instead of having a story naturally build itself and have the character grow organically

The first Life is Strange was such a vibe, and much of the magic atmosphere owes itself not just to Max and Chloe as characters but to Max's rewind powers. Without those powers, there is no "strange" in Life is Strange. In my opinion, Before the Storm and True Colors are weakspots because the main protagonist either lacks magical powers completely or has a power that's just boring. I mean come on, Alex being a so-called "Empath" is not that special and if you want to know how people feel like you can just ask them. It also doesn't make for a very impactful choice system.
Then there's the story aspect, of course. While I have to give credit to Life is Strange 2 for being the most original sequel in the series, it lacks the grounded vibe of the first game's story and feels more like a grand "on the run" escape story with bigger emphasis on politics. It also doesn't help that the person with magical powers isn't the playable character.
I think that in order to create a great Life is Strange sequel, one has to consider what made the first game great and take inspiration from that, without ripping off too much yet also not steering away too much. That's why I made a list on some things I think needs to be present in the "essential" LiS game:
1. The playable protagonist must have impactful magical powers
2. The story must revolve around teenagers
3. The game must have an indie aesthetic
i haven't liked deck nine at all, bts and true colors are the bottom two lis games for me and the new telltale game was ruined because of the two choice option.
The only game i loved from deck nine was the Farewell episode in BTS

True Colors sucked imo. Like, I wouldn't take back having played it but it's out of its depth compared to the others. LIS1 and then Before The Storm are objectively the best but tbh for me LIS2 is my favorite. There's something about it. Maybe it's just because I like trains and used to be a travelling crust punk and I like to see us represented even if it was corny lol

True colors was also a pretty great attempt to make an LiS Game tho, because it was decent and beside of showing this site of the characters, still not "in your face" and overall pushy ect. ect.
I also believe the "I WANT TO BE REPRESENTED" part of the LiS Community, is far smaller than we all think!
I hope we get more masculine presenting queer people in the next game. I sometimes feel like that is lacking, but I love this franchise and hope the best in its next game!!
We kind of got this in tell me why. It isn't "official" part of the Life is Strange series, but I definitely would consider it a successor.
Why can’t they just make a beautiful game with hawt gay/ straight people with great story and badass powers now that would be hella crash I feel as if they never captured the nostalgia and uniqueness of Life is strange it’s like they’re trying but flopping and I’m hella unimpressed big sad.
But I will agree with garrison of one thing and that is that people will have to get used to making visually impactful things if they’re to create a impactful game, people are so used to a bubble that when they see anything different or not to their liking they lash out and thinking like that destroys a otherwise great game. Garrison for all his faults is right that his team were also just as bad as him when it comes to compromising and making something compelling. As gay black man I’m tired of the race politics and sexuality pandering I just want a good character that has awesome powers and solve puzzles and yeah a great gay character *thats hot* is that to much to ask.
This sucks. Life Is Strange is my favourite video game franchise. As a Bisexual myself I always loved the games for the queer representation, it's just sad all this happened.
I'm actually part of the small group of people that like TC don't get me wrong I don't think it's the best and there is problems with it but I enjoyed it.
But I'm like is there any point is buying the new one when and if it releases honestly idk. Probably better to go with Lost Records instead tbh.

I dont want to play a game pushing left wing political & identity politics messages. lesbians and an insight in to female friendship I thought was beautiful though. I've refused to play LIS 2 because ive heard things. Im from europe so i don't want to hear cops=bad mexicans=good. There are people in the world that aren't left wing american, and the game needs to be at least paletable to us.
