Given it's lackluster performance, "Siesta" would have been a better name from the factory. But given your goals perhaps it will live up to it's name eventually. Keep it street legal and habitable inside, but add horsepower, braking capability and cornering improvements. I'd love to see more 3D designed and printed bits find their way into this project. As for names, Project Party Time, Project Money Pit, or Dinsdale (obscure Monty Python reference on that one). If you keep it black, Darth Rager (Rager = party = Fiesta). The Black Pearl?
I'd love to see a 1.25 turbo build, It isn't something that really makes sense so it never gets done... all the more reason to do it!
Small displacement doesn't favour turbo.
The Japanese Kei car 660cc engine only gain about 10% power with boost. To make it work you need to cram around 20psi in there and an engine not designed for boost won't handle it.
You could swap it for 1000 turbo from a VW Polo
@@1one3_Racing the reason kei cars don't make much from the turbo is they're power limited by regulation. You can turbo anything with similar results. All that changes is what needs upgrading in the process.
200bhp from a 1.25l? Why not!
@@MakingforMotorsport That's one way to torture test an engine, that being said it's a yamaha lump and pretty solid so who knows?
@@1one3_Racing people turbo 1L aygos and bring them from 65bhp to 150bhp lol
Project Fiesty! It's Feisty, but misspelled, because reasons. Love the project already. Handling mods alone will do wonders for this beast. Given the engine size, an AMR500 supercharger would be a pretty easy, safe, and fun power mod!
Fiesty, because it’s Feisty but also wrong 😂 I like it… SHORT LIST! I had to look up that little charger… seems like a good option.
@@MakingforMotorsport Hahaha glad you like it! You get to say it right, but spell it wrong. Something fun about that.
Also this is crazy coincidental. I literally just recommended someone on Instagram watch your 3D printing vids at the exact same time you replied to this.
I came to your channel to find the video and saw your comment notification. UA-cam stars aligning! Oh and AMR500 are cheap too, which is nice.
Cheers for the recommending bud, that word of mouth stuff really helps! When’s that V10 gonna get going?
@@MakingforMotorsport I have been severely slow the last month, but have some fun posts coming and plan to start editing the full build for UA-cam soon. Should be driving in the coming months. We'll see what I get up to. ;) Thanks a lot for asking!
I'd love a thorough speeduino setup. What you'll need to hook it up to your spark coil, trigger wheels, all that stuff.
This is definitely on the cards, and as a road car I can do a lot more content on tuning etc
@@MakingforMotorsport That would be so cool!
I tried reading the speeduino manual but I just don't know all the parts needed for it to work if I want to control injection and ignition.
Different injector types, vr conditioning, what coils to use and all that good stuff.
Looking forward to this series
Project "Granny" or something like that
I like the simplicity, but Mother has already told me “Project Granny” is even worse 😂
What you said about "why would you do that" explains what I was trying to say to my cousin the other day. I wanted a $100 Daihatsu Wide 55 with disassembled engine. He told me to save the money and buy a better van. But that's entirely the point, spend next to nothing for something that you can have fun with! I don't want a proper working big van, I want that little piece of crap because it's about the journey. Thank you for your channel!
ITBs on stock ECU and also Speeduino on the stock intake would be facinating. I had a diesel fiesta (non facelift)a while back and I'd have loved to do either mod to it. Well, until I went drifting in the snow and crashed it.
A diesel with ITBs? I have never seen that.
@@schwuzi haha. Ooops, didn't quite mean it like that but hey why not? Maybe some IDPs = Individual Diesel Pumps
@@MattRoseBoswall I thought I was tripping lol diesel ITBs sounded like so much fun
YES!! This is the stuff we love to see! Budget motoring in cars like we are still 17, but with the modern tech (3D printers etc) that we wished we could access back then! Awesome! 👍🏻😁
I was thrashing this exact car back when I was 18... all the stuff I wanted to do then.... oh yes, now is the time!
Would love to see the speeduino with some DBW ITB's! Or something more extreme like swapping the stock zetec head for a motorbike cylinderhead onto the stock block
Hmmm…. A motorbike head? Hmmm…. *starts googling bore spacing on 1000cc superbikes….
@@MakingforMotorsport it's pretty common in german hillclimb races. I've always wonderd how they do it..🤔 very little information to find
First off, your ‘tip of the hat’ to the Colonists watching your channel was greatly appreciated (4 cu in??? 🤣), but it really wasn’t necessary. We have more than sufficient imports here to be able to understand liters of displacement. On the other hand, some sense of what is required to pass MOT is something I doubt any of us truly understand. The rules here are different from State to State. In my case emissions are waived after 20 years. The lights, brakes and other “safety related” items still get examined. I see lots of interesting suggestions. Definitely looking forward to seeing how this plays out!
Oh yes, the dreaded MOT test..... well it's likely to morph into an episode as I'm gonna have to tackle it in a couple of months.... and its needed "a bit" of work for the last few years.....
I know I'm late, the best name would be Project Shiftbox as an ode to past names, with a nod to the future fun you'll have shifting it's life into a channels fun little driver.
Holy crap, this production value is insanely good. I'm mad you don't have more views or attention. I think the name "shopping cart" is pretty great, as you can say it's the fastest shopping cart you've driven. I'm a fan of the no power, although just a little more is nice, but maybe you have to DIY literally everything, underfloor, rear wing(?), brake ducts, cross bracing(?), and maybe cooling ducts. just try your best to make literally everything on this car yourself. I don't know if this is a good idea, but it's an idea.
I would love to see you doing head and manifolds polishing foe better flow to see how much it can bring compared to stock. That would be as budget friendly as it gets.
step 2 - camshaft upgrade and again see what impact does it have
swap it for a BMW K1300 engine, instant 175 horses.
failing that, balance the rotating mass (blueprint) and up the rev limit to 10k on that ford motor!
Ohhh… there’s something special about a fully balanced engine… maybe more money than I want to sink into it tho…
Heck yeah! I've got a Mk7 Ford Fiesta 1.6 non turbo that I use as my tow pig. Bring it on!
You've gotta have a tow pig....... mine is my wifes car! 😂
Should put some Coilovers in it, you will notice a huge difference in handling. Also a twin cam zetec motor that was used in the BTCC would be really fun.
Shape looks like a golf. Commenting before watching video... ahh damn a fiesta!
not far off... but I definitely can't afford a Volkswagen!😂😂
Now thats the sort of tuning I like !
I've owned 3 Ford Pumas, a Mk4 Fiesta and currently own a Mk5 ZetecS with the typical 1.7 Puma engine - all basically the same car. They are fun to chuck around windy roads and although some weren't the fastest things around, they certainly brought a smile to my face. Crap brakes is common on those cars.. easy to do a ST150 upgrade on the front or Mondeo calipers with 300mm discs if you want to drill out the hubs for bigger carrier bolts although that setup is VERY heavy! If the flywheel is the same as the Puma, which I probably think it would be, you may be able to fit a 220mm clutch from a Focus for a quick/easy upgrade. Cant wait to see what you do with that little gem!
Sir_Viro, I reckon I need to scoop out some of your brains as they'd be very useful... the 1.7 conversion seems fairly common and straight forward but info like the brakes is gold......
Whatever you do mechanically, please do keep it looking stock externally - it would make a great sleeper, especially being a 5 door. 👍
Sleepers are the way.... what is better than having 3 times the power people think you have......?
Looks like being a fun project. As for names - it's a shopping trolley getting ITBs so "Throttle Trolley"? :)
oh.... the short list is calling!
Making custom suspension bushings and how they improve handling. How does the shifter feel? I vote turbo.
The most obvious option is an ST170 engine on throttle bodies.
Ideal spec to enter the Bristol Two Litre Cup and do some sprints/hillclimbs.
Yeah… engine swap is a thought, I’ve already got a 1.7 puma engine sat on the floor in the garage.. but the idea of screwing power out of 1.2litre does appeal!
I have a 2002 1.25 ZETEC SE model and I put a power chip box connected to the MAP sensor and got a cheap electric turbo kit, works a treat.. I'd say I get now 9 secs 0-60... I even lowered the girl and got her full front and rear strut braces installed.. love it to bits as corners like a beast :)
Nice!!! Sounds like you’ve got a proper little machine there!
@@MakingforMotorsport Shes ok :)
Can't wait to see the end results from your build as will defiantly be hell a lot better...
Nice project! We've got a racing series in Ireland for the Zetec versions of these, great bit of racing!
That’s likely a good source of tips… I’ll have a look! Cheers 👍
you should do a head porting video, budget style as you do so well!
I've got an urge for this, but I think it'll take all the time in the world and results be underwhelming..... maybe on a bigger engine....
I race a Peugeot 206 here in Australia and my budget is actually less than yours! Believe it or not.
I love working on and racing crappy cheap old cars. I don't have to worry about crashing or breaking anything because it's all stock parts that I can pick up for less than a packet of chips and I don't ruin my daily driver!
I may not be the fastest or the best dressed but I can guarantee I have the most fun and the least stress!
Less than £0? now thats some cheap racing! but you're absolutely right about cheap cars.... I have a saying about rallying and competing in cars that if you can't afford 2, you can't afford to race 1....
I must say I'm very stoked for this project! Curious to see what will be done to it :D
Can’t wait for this project, I have a bmw e36 318i and I really want to see what you do to shit boxes like mine. Great channel.
I have a special place in my heart for BMW Shitboxes…. I wish Project Siesta was Bavarian!
every small car is a potential racer
Absolutely… but I am sure we can agree that no car is as fast as a hire car!
For brakes you can check out the mk1 focus setup 256mm front and plug and play to the fiesta if you can find the rear discs setup will also bolt on just fine
Cheers for the heads up. Because of the channel I will probably do a more generic option that needs a bit of design work instead of something that just bolts on.
1600 Engine swap, Half Cage, and Build it for Rally/Autocross. Such great fun and don't need a epic car
you're exactly on point with that, you don't need much to have fun - I've had quite a lot in a 1.2 corsa that spat out fireballs when revmatching lol
A 1.2 corsa? Nice… I had one and a few 1.2 novas… I don’t think I have ever thrashed a car so hard since…
I got an idea use a amr 500 supercharger there a cheap all in one unit no need for oil or water cooling ect. Great videos keep it up
3D printed manifold, ITBs, plenum and stock air flow meter, stock ECU, see how it behaves? Then sack it off for Speeduino. Then rip out the 1.25 and drop in a 1.6... The Sigma is a lovely revvy little engine
Sam...... you have read my mind.....
Speaking of a name, I like "Blue bird" cause its going to absolutely FLY when you are done with it amiright?
But that's the Nissan your gran used to have, not a Ford your mum used to have
fantastic project - I can't wait to see what you do to it.
Neither can I..... ooh the possibilities of a having a throwaway car!
I am always a sucker for turbo stuff. If it were me id probably do a nice little street turbo build and maximize efficiency with proper sizing.
I've not done a turbo conversion before but I know of most of the bits, seems like fun.....
Active light-weighting :)
Yeah! ITBs all the things!
It will be more than one!
It's like an elongated Ford Ka; call it the Ford KaKa
this..... all of this... SHORT LIST!
Fantastic! This is right up my street as I'm using this car as a basis for my project - 1.25 on gsxr600 ITBs, phase 2 cams, & speeduino hoping to hit a modest 125hp in a car weighing approx. 500kg!
If it's still on the original clutch it's worth changing to a new one as they uprated it slightly bigger later on (180mm to 190mm). I have a few bits left from stripping my motor if you need it - steering wheel, some body panels I could cut off?
Nice! Seems like we have the same idea! I am planning on changing nothing externally, and internally, keeping it 100% stock looking! Let me know how your car goes….
@@MakingforMotorsport haha! I'm still some way off completing it (it's a kitcar by the way using the engine & gearbox) however have done the dry build up already and stripped to build properly now. Engine will stay stock until it passes IVA in case emissions is a problem unless I can get it on a rolling road.
The car is awesome, and this channel seriously deserves more subs.
Cheers bud! Awesome is probably over-stating it but it should do the job 👍
Highly recommend black diamond predators, I ran them in my civic ek and the jazz runs the exact same pads! Half the price of green stuff and on my option the same if not better
Thanks for the heads up, hopefully it gets through the MOT 😬🤷♂️
@@MakingforMotorsport hopefully it does, shouldn't see why not, brake lines or rot... Sounds like it drives alright
It’s rotting along the sills… we’ll see 🤞
Love it. Given the ethos of the build, I would love to see ;
Keeping the stock engine
Break the build up into “weekend”build time chunks.
Definitely Speeduino on ITB’s
Definitely turbo ( Second hand or eBay) and explore minimum fabrication options first like can the stock manifold be used by just making a short link pipe to turbo which might help with space placement too.
Bigger breaks of maybe escort or something.
Keep it sleeper style
Can’t wait for this one, right up my street
Definitely plan to keep it sleeper.... and everything will be done as accessible and as easy as possible... starting tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled 👍
I would like to see a bit of aero. Flat underfloor or wheel air curtains for example
Hmm interesting, this wasn’t on the list at all, some underfloor might be interesting….
Turbo with the speeduino engine management please :)
Hmmm…. That’s got a ring to it!
In Poland we call that kind of car "Gruz" which translates to "Rubble" or "Śmieć" which translates to "Trash" anyway it's sounds nicer than sh*tbox :P
Oh and names ,
Uncle Fester 🤌🤌
Project Trollied (could mean 🛒 or 🍻)
Would love to see the car with itbs turbocharged with the speeduino would be cool to see how the standard engine can perform and how these changes effect driving on the road
ITB's (are carburetors an option?), speeduino, stainless exhaust build, stripped interior, roll cage build, custom dash with 3d printed parts, battery relocation. Some stuff I'd like to see...
Now that’s a shopping list! Carbs might be…. Along with one for two others 😉
Great content!!!
Maybe ill have to come back to u. ill get started with speeduino. maybe ill need some help. I've never done anything like this myself. It should go into an VW Polo G40 from 1991.
You can follow it along every step 👍
Sooner or later you're going to need an up rated clutch, so, when you get round to popping the engine out to do that, I think you should pull the gearbox too and see if you can't find a helical limited slip diff to fit in there. I don't know anything about that generation of Fords, but there's a fair chance they made an LSD that would work on that Fiesta. It's probably one of the most satisfying modifications you can do to a light front wheel drive car, as it just gives you so much grip, and I get the impression you're going to be livening the engine up somewhat, so you'll be needing all the traction you can get, especially on our wet British roads.
Oh yeah, much more power and the clutch will definitely be the first casualty.... and i'd love a diff... hopefully I can tempt a few more views with the project so I can pay for one!
@@MakingforMotorsport Yes, I suspect it will come down to a matter of cost. I mess about with FWD Toyotas, with the 1ZZ engine, and we're lucky because they used pretty much the same gearbox in the last MR2, along with an excellent LSD, which can be sourced from breakers for a few hundred quid (in fact a brand new Quaife version is only around £800). Unfortunately, I don't believe Ford mass produced anything like that, so any LSD compatible with your gearbox will most likely be a relatively costly, factory motorsport or aftermarket item, but it'll be very interesting seeing what you can find.
I'd love to see as much 3d printed stuff as you can throw at it (suspension bushings, intake manifolds etc). I wonder if a 3d printed intake manifold could cope with boost...
And as someone with a mk6 fiesta (with a 1.6 because that's the smallest we got in Australia), they're such awesome little cars. The engine is a gem of a thing that loves a good thrashing
Oh boost is definitely on the agenda… and 3d printing… would I do anything else? 😉
@@MakingforMotorsport braaaaap, boost and 3d printing. Not a bad combination, even if the boost would make the borts a little quieter
Turbo would be cool
This project is gonna be YUUJ
Video production value is coming on a bit!
Why thank you Mr T… after only a year I might be getting the hang of this… 🤔
Ah, so this was the “similar thing” you were talking about, looks like we’re racing against the clock now for who finishes their stock ecu ITB’s first!
It’s on!!
@@MakingforMotorsport I did it!!!! Car runs well even with small ITB’s. I’ve noticed a chunk of torque increase in mid range and insane throttle response as a result. Car idles like crap after running for 5 mins (tape over the vacuum leaks falls off) but i can iron those things out and end up with a nice running car. Overall this was worth it and makes the car much more responsive and fun to drive
@@nes3382 nice one!!! I’m working on mine again and this gives me bit of hope! I’d definitely recommend the mikalor style clamps if you’re not already using them… with the normal jubilee clips the tighter you get them the more they ripple up the silicone hose couplers and give you leaks…
Nice work bud!!!
@@MakingforMotorsport jubilee clips have been shredding the pipes quite a bit so I’ll look around, i think I’ve found the last of the vacuum leaks and I’ll test it out when i get home and report back to you with the results. Did i mention the glorious sound these things make? I don’t even want to change the exhaust anymore! One thing i strongly recommend (especially since we have to use airboxes) is a well made heatshield. I made mine out of an aluminium sheet and some heat insulation and it has made a noticeable difference to throttle response and added a bit more oomph since it feeds directly from a pipe running to the foglight.
@@nes3382 oh I know all about the BRAARRRP BRAARRRRRRP!!!
Trust me, mikalor clamps 👍💪
Please do motorbike throttle bodies and ECU on this with a proper back to back.
I'm considering doing cheap throttle bodies instead of shelling out for the Jenveys. There's also the really cheap Weber DCOE copies on ebay I'd like to see tested.
I’d love some jenveys but I honestly don’t see the point… I’ll show what you can go with some £50 eBay specials….
And DCOE copies? Interesting….
