TPU is so damned durable it's crazy. Def gonna be printing a lot of my own bushings. :D

Directly printing bushes is such a fantastic improvement, please do let us know how they stand up to UK roads!
On a side note, loving the videos as usual!

Cheers bud… they have had a spanking on a rally now so it’s worth a catch up!

3d printed suspension parts, love it! Can't wait to see the outcome!

Weirdly, it's not uncommon to see it on 3D printing groups. I'm not sure I'd trust my printer with that, though.
But if you do it seriously, that means you can control your part's hardness with infill (and make it progressive or anisotropic, which you can't do with a molded part)

One thing that massively improves the steering feel is swapping those E36 style lower arms out for the E30 ones which don't have the rubber cups on the outer ball joints.

As soon as you were excited about the 3D printed TPU bushes I was smiling in myself: next time he'll show us how he 3D prints the springs too 🤣

3:28 Quick thought before I finish watching. I believe if you were to put the 3D printed stuff in an oven for some time at slightly under melting temperature in sand so the piece doesnt deform too much, you would eliminate issues of layer adhesion and correct voids. Pieces will shrink a bit but with a couple of iterations you could correct for accurate sizing in the slicer. The problem is you will have sand inclusion on the surface of the pieces, so the finer the sand the better. Keep the amazing work my guy ✨👌

Also careful temper in a very controlled environment works well and strengthen the parts

Yeah, I’ve not tried it but apparently it helps PLA massively… I’ll give it a god eventually 👍
      Thanks for watching

This is why modern 3d printers have heated chambers, not just heated beds.

With TPU it's hardly an issue as the layer adhesion is absolutely insane and it's incredibly durable. Annealing does work fantastic on a lot of PLA though! I have even made oil caps from PLA+ that is functional in an engine bay, contrary to what the internet will tell you is impossible.

I'd love to "go to" Demon Tweeks.
Been buying parts off them for near 10 years. One of the first places to ship to Australia

I have printed bushings for leaf springs. Haven't put many kilometers on them but they are much stiffer than OE rubber ones.

Worth saying that bushes need to have some compliance or you wear or fracture the part or the mount, easier to replace bushes than repair a cracked chassis.

Printed some tpu shifter bushings for my compact, its much better then the rubber ones. Tried out some delrin for that but its a bit harsh and rattles a bit more.

You should look into the Creality Raptor scanner. That looks like the next big beast for little money

@@MakingforMotorsport can't wait for your review on it. Own a PEEL 3d scanner myself. It's amazing piece of kit with the reverse engineering PEEL.CAD but I'm missing the ability for scanning smaller parts. Maybe the raptor could be it. Loved all your reviews so far. You made me buy 2 Neptunes too.. you make me poorer god damnit 🤣🤣🤣

hmm, did you take off at any point with those bushes in the rear? It maybe that they had a harder life as teh suspension slams down onto them.
E&H memorial rally in a few weeks, entrys live yesterday, do it!!! I am... in my compact

    • @MakingforMotorsport
      @MakingforMotorsport  Місяць тому +1

Haha… the car has been slightly airborne, but not with those bushes, one steady 12car and they were toast… the printed ones have stood up so far…
I did a Chelmsford MC targa a few weeks ago (Javalins Jumbo), was great fun, but every bush in the rear is fucked, so that’s all coming off, plus I totally pushed my luck with a sump guard so that all needs sorting… not going anymore events where I am holding back on the rough stuff…
I’d love to do a Road Rally again… nothing like the smell of mud on a hot exhaust and a pint at 4am 😁😁😁

@@MakingforMotorsport My friend had a similar experience with some poly motor mounts for a DSM. He had them in a box for years and when he finally went to install them, they were crumbling. I think some formulas used just have issues. The TPU should hold up great!
