    I have a fancy Tornador, but it is so awkward that I use compressed air most of the time. I blow out under the seats before vacuuming, then do just what you demonstrated. I'm even older than you, so I'm glad you are teaching the new generation our old-timers tricks :-)

      D.K. That will certainly improve the situation and may be enough. I find that the compressed air gets down into the base of carpet to remove additional grime, taking it up a notch especially on light-colored carpets.

    The quality of vehicles these days is shit. Cheap fuzzy carpet, thin paint, thin leather, fabric that frays if you look at it, dash boards that melt. Been detailing as long as you have and you have to admit that our job has become twice as difficult with newer cars. Cheap junk at a high price.

  • @bhnn7991
    @bhnn7991 2 роки тому

    I've owned probably 30 cars in my lifetime. I recently bought a used pickup that is okay condition but the carpet (especially on the drivers front) was just flat filthy. Salt stains, dirt, etc..
    I cannot stand a filthy interior and bought some nice CoverCraft seat covers but the truck is really not worth spending the money on replacing the carpet which from Toyota is not cheap and the alternatives are lacking.
    Scott, I have to say the technique you outlined here is the best idea I have seen since sliced bread. I did it tonight as you outlined and the difference is night and day. I never in a million years would have thought my air compressor would be a useful detailing tool but man it sure is.
    Thank You for this video. It's worth it's weight in gold and you are correct - the crap that came out of the carpet onto the Micro Fiber towel was pretty astounding.

    A) Tell customer stains won't come out ( not a lie in most hammered cars ) but I can dye it for $X
    B) Go to NAPA with year, make and model of vehicle.
    C) Have them make aerosol cans of dye.
    D) Use painters tape to tape off anything you don't want overspray on and spray it new.
    Turn a $100 detail into a $200 plus detail.

    I been grabbing 2 cans of dollar general carpet cleaner for the past 10 years. I will spray the front and back down with one can. Take a scrub brush lightly work it in and in about a half hour vacuum it out at the car wash. I can assure you in the morning your carpets will smell and look brand spanking new. The extra can is for the next time you need to do it. I been using that stuff for a very long time. It's completely harmless to me and the environment and will make 40.00-50 bucks on just the interior of a cars floor. great video though

    Is this method better than using a wet & dry vac to simply suck up the muck?

    • @cup_and_cone
      @cup_and_cone 7 років тому +2

      Greg Sullivan - That's what I do. AP + bristle brush like first half to agitate and lift, then use a shop vac instead of compressed air. Scrubbing with a brush is more aggressive than a 100PSI blast of air, and I don't think blowing drops and particles of who knows what onto everything else is worth it. But what I think what the compressed air does best is unflatten the carpet, by standing the carpet fibers up and straightening them as if it were new, which adds another dimension to the looks.

    • @letlive8014
      @letlive8014 6 років тому

      I have to agree. The flattening of the fibers is also something that has to be dealt with to 'truly restore' the original look of the carpet. Thanks

    Great video Scott. I appreciate the tip and until I can afford a Tornador, I'll have to give this a try. However, you really should be cautioning your audience to the obvious inhalation hazards with this method. Even with the Tornador, especially without the velocity vac attachment, all the dirty, grime, mold, bacteria, and chemicals from the cleaner are blown into the air. Albeit a lot is sticking to the MF, I could see in the video the mist fly up towards your face. A lot of dirt and debris also ended up on your arm. It's getting everywhere which means you're breathing it. If you aren't willing to drink the cleaner you're using and you aren't willing to drink water from an extractor that just sucked up all the dirt from the carpet, then you should be wearing gloves, eye protection, and a respirator.
    If you're doing this professionally, wear gloves, eye protection, and a respirator! You don't want to pay the hard way down the road. Scott, maybe a future video should be about safety and maybe a few unknown health hazards you've learned from experience that you could share with us so we all don't make the same mistakes.

    That's all good and great if folk have access to that stuff, most don't plus the cleaning stuff you get in the states, we in the UK don't get.

    Just mask off well with proper plastic and use frog tape when masking and use the clear plastic that you get from home depot or even wallmart,then the people that have a 2800 or higher psi pressure washer, you can get this job done alot faster and cleaner without any access debris that could chemically damage the plastics or leather ,etc..,in ur vehicle,because if they look like that you dont know what is on the carpets of floor,believe me I'm from the early 70s which doesnt matter,but this is a more cost effective way and safer then what he is doing ,all around, and I would think more home owners would have a power washer then a air pressure tank,hose,nozzle etc,oh and as far as cleaner just use purple power ,already comes in spray bottle and it's safe and I use it for almost everything, good luck ,any questions,hit me up!

    Why not use a dry vac? Instead of towel and airhose

    Saw your video on the carpets makes sense mr mothers over on his site is flooding carpets told him won't that ruin the padding underneath the carpet and cause mold waiting for his reply like your old school method better my friend old school is the best school it's also what is called lots of years and experience which you have best to you!

      I got mine at a pawn shop for $90 bucks. 20 gallon. Does the job just fine. I use this exact method he shows here, and also the black tornador 02Z or whatever it's called. Has a metal swivel inside the cone that spins around. It's an amazing tool. Sometimes it can't compete with digging the tip of a blowgun into a totally wrecked carpet, though. Works great on vinyl and upholstery.
      How's detailing going for you guys out in the world? I'm personally having a tough spot. Cold season is here and people are putting their money toward Christmas and hunting season. It's really being felt in my wallet.
