This is fun, and I know you can find quite a bit of homoerotic subtext in the Sam/Frodo Merry/Pippin and Gimli/Legolas pairs, but to me, one of the strengths of LOTR is how gloriously asexual it is. It definitely is romantic, but treats romance like a beautiful landscape, poetry, history, not as a standalone or special thing. And I find a lot of value in a world where fulfillment is explicitly outside of sexual life, but in so many other beautiful things. Like, it really shows of a beautiful world, beautiful lives, full of rich experiences, friendships and emotions that doesn't need sex to be complete. To me, it's a love letter to an ace lifestyle, somehow, and I claim it as ace representation (which imo is really lacking). And maybe more importantly too, not even the worst enemies and most cruel monsters are depraved enough to commit sexual violence. Tolkien described the most evil he could conjure, and yet he deemed sexual violence to be even worse somehow, and not worthy to enter his books. Respect!
I agree! I think the "it's not explicitly sexual" can be used by some to discredit the queerness, when asexuality is part of the LGBTQIA, and seeing SamFrodo as an asexual-but-romantic partnership is just as valid as seeing them as QPPs (queerplatonic partnership). But there's definitely not Nothing there 😂
She named her son after Frodo and also let Frodo name Elanor. And when Frodo lived with her and Sam, “there was not a hobbit in the Shire looked after with such care” as Frodo was. She and Frodo were definitely good friends.

Some people dont seem to understand that queer readings of literature are completely valid. Even if the author didnt intend for it, if theres evidence in the text, you can argue for it
For real, I'm like "did y'all skip high school English Lit classes???" The whole point is to have different interpretations and interesting ideas not fight about what's canon??? Exhausting
@@LostLifetimes definetly. Like, I am in the camp that likes the friends reading, because I really like that type of friendship between two men portrayed. But I'm not gonna take away someones representation just because I like that reading. This is probably just the phobes doing their thing. Someone getting really butthurt about something that doesnt affect them either way. I really liked the way you put together this video! And the reveal in the end the article was written by someone Mulligan wrote a book with, jaw-dropping!
Molly where's the fanart? MOLLY-
It's in the OG article actually they're great
This is exactly the sort of mashup/analysis/dropout-quickcut content I am here for! 😄😄
