Would need proof, and it was quite bold of them to fire him then fix the wall, but i doubt they really fixed it, only replaced that one section for about $100. The mold is most definately still there growing inside of the wall.
Here's a story to counteract all this horribleness. I worked fast food at Wendy's and the manager there was absolutely militaristic about food cleanliness and sanitation. He would never be happy if you lost food due to carelessness and you'd get a lecture about being more careful but you never ever, ever cross contaminated food if you didn't want your ear really chewed off. I was doing salad prep one day and after assembling the machine to chop this lettuce my hand accidentally slipped and I very lightly cut my finger on the blades. So light that you couldn't even see blood on the blade and my finger barely had a quarter of a drop of blood on it. I still deconstructed the entire three-foot-tall contraption which is not easy and took absolutely every part of it through the entire sanitation process before reassembling it to continue with morning prep. Naturally I also bandaged my hand before doing this and put on a rubber gloves and used a rubber band to seal it against my wrist so that nothing could get out or in. I did this all day because I was still responsible for doing a lot of the washing and sanitation of other items in store as the day went on. I looked goofy as hell but it meant that there was absolutely no possibility of contamination.
wendy's in general seems to be very on top of keeping their shit together when it comes to sanitation. my girlfriend works there during night shifts and she told me how thorough the cleaning process is during closing. it's why wendy's is one of the few fast food chains i don't feel nervous about eating at
I work at Subway and one day I cut my finger open and my manager shoved a band-aid on it and it bled through the band-aid and I just had to be like "ah yes don't mind me I was just uhhhh prepping sauces a second ago ahaha"

Fruit flies were an eternal menace in the summer ( I worked in the bakery of a grocery chain...thanks to the produce section every summer/fall we had an immortal horde of gnats/fruit flies.....we took to taking some of the smaller half-shell containers and filling them with either vegetable oil or vinegar then poking a million holes in the top...every morning we'd come in and have to replace them because the surface of each were thickly coated with dead insects....blech.

I've worked at 2 restaurants and we would get very busy but we made sure the kitchen was in good condition. We usually didnt have enough hands or time to get into the bathrooms until after rushes etc
Zamorino h ya. I work in a PizzaHut. During rushes the kitchen can get crazy especially if the cook is frantic and flings cheese everywhere, but we always make sure to keep the make table wipes down and organized. I’ll sweep the floor for cooks if they are too busy to do it. But bathrooms are a different story. Customers can be very nasty. We usually don’t have time to clean the bathrooms every hour. We mainly focus on the kitchen area since that’s where most of the action is happening.

Rats do it all the time if a mom rat is stressed out even if it is for no reason they will eat their husband or children usually the children because they are weaker they usually only do it if they are stressed and low on food but sometimes they just do it for the hell of it but if the husband is around they are usually mad about this and sometimes eat the mom
I used to work as a line cook at a Mexican restaurant. There was this raccon in the back that would frequently scare waitresses going to their cars at night. So on one Friday night when it was spotted, a coworker of mine went in the back and beat it to death. It was left in the back decomposing for about a week b4 the owner caught wind of the situation. Never had I felt more uncomfortable in a workspace. TLDR, raccon gets murdered at Mexican restaurant
I was working fast food a while back, at a place whose manager was a clean freak. Meaning we always had good inspections. One day, I was training a new employee, when the inspector came in. While my manager was showing him around, I had the new kid start some dishes. I asked him to drain out the old wash water, and when he did, the floor drains all decided to back up. Greasy water began pooling on the floor. As if that weren't bad enough, new kid decides to plunge the sink drain. Fine, except he ignores the sink plunger right next to the sink, walks into the bathroom, and grabs the toilet plunger! Proceeds to try to stick it in our dish sink, right in front of the health inspector! My manager and I had to scream at him to stop! Didn't get our best marks that day...

Former Inspector here. I recall a time when myself and another inspector went out to a local pizza join in town that was popular and had been around forever. We begin the inspection and check the freezer, which is full of ice build-up and their gauges weren't reading proper temperature. Then we see their storage for the frozen foods - everything is stacked up as high as it will go in the shipping boxes they arrived off truck in. We explain to them that the foods (various meats sauces and breads) all had to be separated and divided by shelves as to prevent contact from one another and off of the ground (oh yeah, they were all just sitting on the floor). Afterwards, we begin to inspect the kitchen. Great start when you find several spots of mold and mouse droppings behind the equipment and prep stations. Proceed to find even MORE droppings and dead mice around machines, vents and other areas. Then we get to the front of house - MORE droppings and dead mice! Bathrooms and closets? DROPPINGS AND MICE! We commended them that their traps were in fact working, but we had to write them up for several violations including the droppings, mold, freezer storage, and they had multiple holes in their walls. So yeah . . .that was fun.

These are pretty funny but the only thing I'm TOTALLY against is the story about checking out the bathroom to have an idea of the state of the kitchen. In all of the restaurants I've worked in and the other cooks and waiters that I've met, not in a SINGLE one has that ever correlated. Either the front of house cleaned the bathrooms or had an outside company come in to clean them. The cooks and chefs in the back of house would NEVER wash the bathrooms where clients can access. Not only do they not have the time for that, but could you imagine the concept of the cook washing shit off the floor and then going anywhere near the food? Nope. The back of the house deals with the back and the front deals with the front.
There can be some correlation, as it relates to work ethos at the establishment. While clean toilet doesn't necessarily mean clean kitchen, dirty toilet is a warning sign that the owners/managers aren't holding their staff to high standards when it comes to cleaning.
A local takeaway close to me shut down out of nowhere one time. It had been there many years and was known by everyone around this area. Sells your usual stuff: kebabs, pizza, fries, burgers; all your usual greasy food you want after a night at the pub. There are thousands of shops like this in the UK. Word got out that it’s hygiene was deplorable. The Indians or whatever they were who owned and worked the place allegedly shat in buckets, and there was a diabolical rat & mouse infestation. The place was beyond filthy. It was, of course, closed down. The owner of the place that now resides there (which has great food you can see them make from scratch) informed us one time that the owner of the former business destroyed some of the equipment fitted to the building before he left - 10’s of 1000’s of £ in damages - in a horrifyingly bratty and entitled fit of rage. It took the new place years to make the money back they spent on the replacements and repairs. A quick internet search reveals its last inspection was in 2012 and that it requires “immediate improvement”, presumably the nail in the coffin.
Awe, we had a cute wolf spider living in our old, metal mailbox out at my parents' house decades ago. He'd come greet you when you opened the door by staring at you with his adorably huge eyes. I miss that lil dude. ...not restaurant related, but the spider in the cabinet story had me reminiscing.
There is a wolf spider that lives in our garage. Seen her with a gaint roach she killed. We also have one or two celler spiders up in the corners were we cant reach. ( ceilings are high) they kill out mosquitos.

I worked full-time at a Sonic Drive-In Restaurant for one Summer during college. Honestly, I never saw one insect in the building, except for the flies that occasionally came in when the door was open. I also worked a month at a Grocery Store Deli, and I can say the same thing about that place, also! I will say this, though, cleaning the fryers is a royal pain in the ass.
All those people that watched these things happen and didn't say anything should only be allowed to eat that dumpster food. You're telling me your mom watched some woman eat meat that was just fished out of a trash can? She just let that happen? Didn't say anything?

My grandfather told me about this Chinese restaurant that him and my uncle would eat at. It was the closest place to work so it was just convenient. He always thought the meat looked and tasted a little funny, but hey it was cheep and he had been eating there for weeks. That is until the health inspector stopped by and saw what they were using to cook with. The neighborhoods cats and dogs. Yep, turns out all the pets in the area had been going missing, and this Chinese place had been feeding them to its customers...
13:42 Recently, people found out that there was black mold at my former elementary school, and apparently it had been there for a loooonnnnggg time (at least since I was there). My mom was pretty pissed off because when I went there, I was sick almost all of the time and had moderately bad asthma, but as soon as I went to middle school, I was in good health and my asthma rarely bothered me (still doesn’t, I almost forgot that I have the diagnosis). She found out because one of her friends teaches at the school. So yeah, black mold isn’t harmless.
Not a health inspector, but my father did plumbing for (amongst other applications, including industrial systems) restaurants, and I helped him along when I was a lad, so I have seen a fair share of restaurant kitchens in 1990s - early 2000s Italy. Most were run with absolute zeal and you could've probably gotten surgery on the dirtiest table, but there was this seaside restaurant which was a truly appalling disaster scene. Call came in about clogged drainage, turns out they were throwing so much shit down the sink drain and the *floor drainages* a mass of rotting food scraps and goddamn worms had formed downpipe. The floor was covered in refuse-encrusted sand, and from the fridge came a smell that can only be described as "revolting". Food was put on plates that were barely clean enough to pass as clean and sent out. Eventually they were shut down because they were found out recycling the wooden sticks off their seawood skewers, and the restaurant was only allowed to re-open under a new management after a monumental fine (after all, it was far from their first strike). Nowadays it's still the kind of shitty, overpriced seaside restaurant you'd only find on Adriatic beach towns, but at least it can pass a health inspections.
Lobsters on the road? Restaurant shut down... In my country, I found a lizard in the bread. A cockroach egg in the water... A BIG roach in the rice. Restaurant is fine and flourishing.

When I was a baby my dad had to give away our cat Wayne cause it kept beating me and my sis up. He gave it to "the China man" who ran a dehli/shop beside dad's pub on Broadway. One day dad os in the Delhi when suddenly the Chinese man comes running with the cat and hurls it into the landing/ stairway room that leads to the apartments upstairs. "What the hell was that about?" My dad asked "Health inspector!" The Chinese man gasped as they see a man with a clipboard down the back hall looking at the stock room the cat had previously been in. recently read a report about how a nearby mcdonalds got a health score of sixty five with a grand total of twenty eight violations, including but not limited to: excessive amount of flies, bathrooms that likely hadn't been cleaned in days, black debris buildup in the sinks, three cases of food temps being in the red zone, and boxes of food sitting around on the floor. they were shut down so that they could deep clean everything and try again, but i don't know how anyone could ever go there after that
Worked in a 19th hole bar and grill (golf club) on Maui and had constant issues with bug despite how hard we worked on cleaning procedures. One day, while working on desserts, I see my chef freeze mid sentence. She gets a look of horror and points down the hall behind me at a throwback from the cetacean period. Ten feet away from me was a prehistoric grandpappy of a centipede scuttling along the work tables. It must have been two feet long and thicker than my big toe. Being the manly 23yr old badass I was, I noped the fuck outta there screaming in a pitch that only dogs can hear. 10 minutes, a beach towel, a claw grabber, a dustpan, and a broom later and we got it outside and onto the grass behind the golf course. Despite working in a kitchen, I don’t think I could have produced enough fire to kill that hundred legged abomination!
This reminds me of my high school biology teacher's pet millipede that was a 20 year old giant of its kind. However, unlike those jackass centipedes, this millipede was super nice and even welcomed petting, which most of the class was terrified asf to do, but i like millipedes so i liked to pet it and occasionally let it hang out on my arm. Won't lie though, if that thing was a centipede instead, i would have screamed like a bitch and ran away from that classroom.
That one tarantula story has happened to me, i saw a humongous spider at a restaurant, and i told a server, he told me that they have a tarantula in the kitchen so he can kill rats and roaches.
Any health inspectors in easton PA? I know of a company that when I worked there didnt tell me to wash my hands, didnt have running water in the bathroom other than the toilet, and didnt provide any gloves in a whole sale food service. The only thing they cared about was to not have these huge 10 gallon buckets not touching the floor. I felt disgusting working there and left the first day because I felt like the only person who cared about food safety and health standards.
Feel the need to point this out. The bathroom is the responsibility of the people who work in front of the house, not the kitchen workers. A dirty bathroom is only a sign that the staff is poorly managed when you can tell that it hasn't been cleaned in a long time, but if the mess appears to be from the same day, then there's a very good chance that the staff simply haven't had a chance to clean the bathroom yet, as it isn't the highest priority for any single worker.
I was checking out an apartment for the first time without reading reviews of the place. The lady giving me a tour around the place was really nice and the whole tour was going really well until we went into one of the apartments and walked into the bathroom. No joke, at least 20+ bees managed to get inside through one of the vents. She quickly shut the door and her face got so red. Let’s just say I didn’t chose that apartment complex.
When I worked as a produce manager, the store I was in at the time got shut down because a few roof rats were found in one of the stock rooms adjacent to the back door. Store manager was going to fire the department Manger in charge of that room until the health inspector noticed the back door of the building was damaged and had a large enough gap underneath for most rats to sneak under through. It came to light that the store manager was ordered to put in a work order to have to door repaired/replaced and never followed through.

Health inspectors will give a free pass to small businesses with owners that dont know what they’re doing, but will shut down a mcdonalds or a chain grocery store if they have a single issue. I worked for a small foreign market once, and the health inspector asked to see the person who had the servesafe certification that was on the wall. I told him that is the previous owners servsafe and that no one working here has one currently. My boss said “can we just pretend he works here so i dont have to spend $100 to take the servsafe test?” The inspector said sure.... drives me insane. Customers pointed out that there were maggots in our peanuts and the owner refused to get ride of them, and continued to get them from a local chinese restaurant (they gave my boss their expired peanuts right out of their trash can for free and then my boss turned right around and packaged them+sold them to customers for full price)
My dad had his own plumbing business for a long time before he retired. According to him, Chinese buffets are usually the most disgusting. Mcdonalds are usually really clean, but Burger Kings are typically gross.
Worst thing I have witnessed was in Jaipur, India: people prepping breads in the hot, dusty street filled with goats and cows then proceeding to carry the finished product through a mound of *rotting chicken heads.* This pile was perhaps 1m high and had all kinds of creatures wading through it. I have never smelt something so foul as that mix between rotting flesh and feces baking in 40° (100°F ish) heat. And less than 2 meters away, people were cooking. Like wtf.
5:08. That's probably true, My first job was washing dishes in a restaurant, but if I had the morning shift the FIRST thing i was required to do was clean the bathrooms before they opened. OMG i hated it lol and they would always go check them after and tell me if i needed to go back and do more. I hated cleaning the mens bathrooms, there was usually piss everywhere. ugh. but the kitchen itself was very clean and everyone was very careful with the food.
Not me but my buddy went to this restaurant that sold some burgers better known as “krabby patties” and almost died because an employee and the owner of said restaurant made a“krabby patty” that was diseased with nail clippings and old sock juice, etc. the thing is, it was a fly that flew into his throat that made him almost die :/
I've been in charge of several kitchens I'm the past... Met a cook that was close to 70 years old. He used to shut the prep table off because it would ice up a little bit... Walked by and noticed fruit flys... Meat and veggies were sitting at room temperature all day.. needles to say he wasn't around much longer after I took over the place.
The one about the dead cat being fried over and over and over again in the fried really got to me, I don’t want to even imagine what that cat looked like after being stuck in a fryer for so long
Worked at a big chain cafe (line chef at the time) on day 3 I was sweeping under the cooking equipment (fryer and stove) and no less than 5 cockroaches ran TOWARD me as I swept...if you know bugs they rarely if ever scurry toward the things that can kill them. Upon moving the equipment to clean my new work area..I discovered that this place had never been cleaned after being shut down and reopened...only that the owner would pay the health inspector loads of money to get a passing grade. The placed stayed open nearly 1 year to the day I quit. When I asked the ownee of the shop next door he said he had to call health inspection to get a different guy out here because his Nik Nak shop had a roach infestation and his shop has zero food in it. It was pretty bad.
My mother is a Health Inspector. She works mostly on hospitals now, but she has told me some pretty wild stories. • Saw scorpions in the medicine storage area • Ha to close a hospital because all medicine was expired by almost a decade and had a infiltration problem • Got someone to put a gun to her head because she said they had to change the sanitization methods in a bars kitchen • Had to close a restaurant that let dogs in the kitchen (as in mess with the food) • Had a hospital she had been giving warnings for years try to acuse her of burning their medicines • Has had owners of restaurants and hospital directors try to either bribe or scare her from fining them
My advice to you...don’t go to a restaurant before they are about to close...they will do a half ass job During high school I worked at fast food Tex mex restaurant I accidentally dropped some flautas (deep fried tacos) the manager said pick them up and put them on the plate...I looked at him like if he was crazy 🤨 he told me “Its ok...these white people will still eat them” I stopped what I was doing, threw the dirty flautas away, grabbed my shit, clocked out, then walked the fuck out...of course I told my close ones to stay the fuck away from that place
Such a friendly lil guy, protecting us from rodents and roaches, stop killing spiders, people. They take care of insects and rodents and really pose no threat to you
My cousin works on commercial kitchen equipment for local restaurants, especially some of the refrigeration units, and he said you'd be surprised at the state of most of the kitchens. He said that usually health inspectors will notify a place of a week when they're likely to drop in, though not the exact day, so it's a slight surprise, but not exactly. He said that the owners and staff would "clean up" their act for the expected period of when the inspectors are likely to drop in, but then go back to business as usual (and it's not just the lower rated places, but even the ones rated A or B.)
and that's why you should keep you mouth shut about health risk in a kitchen... and just report them to the agency that regulate that shit right away. Don't talk to your boss, they'll know that it "bothers" you and hence will likely fire you before you can get more "evidences".
not a restaurant, but I used to work at a pet boarder & groomer. it was a super old building so grime was to be expected, but the levels of filth I saw was appalling over my 2 years of working there. the owner didn’t seem to give a shit that the building was falling apart and pet waste had basically fused into every surface.... glad to say that I now work at a very clean and tidy local coffee shop.
This reminded me of when we were at my Aunt’s house, and she was talking about a overly done birthday party for a one year old. It was held at the fanciest and most expensive Chinese restaurant in her town. She went to this party with my younger cousins (I believe 7 to 11 years old), and during the next week she was super sick to the stomach. This lasted about a week, and then she was fine. Turns out that the kitchen of the restaurant had cockroaches all over the floor. The cooks would also, if food was dropped, would be picked up and put on the plate like it was normal. She also said that her friend and son went, and got really sick. I think she was glad that her kids were picky eaters, or they would have gotten sick too!
Never eat Hospital food, I was bed ridden in a Hospital for nearly 14 days and didn't touch any food they gave me; finally they sent some nutritionist&psychiatrist team to see if I was recovering from my surgery or not, when they asked why I didn't eat Hospital food I told them "I don't trust this food" neither of them even tried to convince me, they just said "keep having your family bring food for you" lol
I remember a Chinese place that got staked out by the cops one night because they were in and out at all ours of the night. Turns out they were pulling up and delivering roadkill they found and salvaged whatever meat they could.
Simple but horrific truth: you never can be sure. I have a little horror story. Germany, 1983 a little town in a rural area. A butcher shop, famous for it's sausages and other related products for miles and miles arround. Everyone was curious, what his secret may be. Well, turns out every sunday morning, after a long night of heavy drinking, the butcher went down to the kitchen and puked in the big vat, where the sausage ingredients where stored. This came to light by someone drinking with him and following him afterwards. After the it came out, his wife divorced him, his butchery shut down, he was shunned by anyone he knew. He kicked up his drinking habit and died a couple years later. All these years... Delicious puke sausages.

This is nothing you can really laugh off. IF you ate that with pleasure, for years. -It was not, that the sausage tasted funny or so much hinting at its dark secret. But that showed me, you can never be sure.
I have had the same spider in the corner where my house meets my garage every summer for at least 4 years. Besides being the same species of spider I know it’s the same one because it spins it’s web in the exact same spot and same kind of web every time. It’s huge and near a light and uses it’s hammock like web to catch mosquitos and June bugs. He is usually hidden but if you put a bug on his web he comes right out to pull it inside the crack.

Here's a story to counteract all this horribleness. I worked fast food at Wendy's and the manager there was absolutely militaristic about food cleanliness and sanitation. He would never be happy if you lost food due to carelessness and you'd get a lecture about being more careful but you never ever, ever cross contaminated food if you didn't want your ear really chewed off. I was doing salad prep one day and after assembling the machine to chop this lettuce my hand accidentally slipped and I very lightly cut my finger on the blades. So light that you couldn't even see blood on the blade and my finger barely had a quarter of a drop of blood on it. I still deconstructed the entire three-foot-tall contraption which is not easy and took absolutely every part of it through the entire sanitation process before reassembling it to continue with morning prep. Naturally I also bandaged my hand before doing this and put on a rubber gloves and used a rubber band to seal it against my wrist so that nothing could get out or in. I did this all day because I was still responsible for doing a lot of the washing and sanitation of other items in store as the day went on. I looked goofy as hell but it meant that there was absolutely no possibility of contamination.

Fruit flies were an eternal menace in the summer ( I worked in the bakery of a grocery chain...thanks to the produce section every summer/fall we had an immortal horde of gnats/fruit flies.....we took to taking some of the smaller half-shell containers and filling them with either vegetable oil or vinegar then poking a million holes in the top...every morning we'd come in and have to replace them because the surface of each were thickly coated with dead insects....blech.

I've worked at 2 restaurants and we would get very busy but we made sure the kitchen was in good condition. We usually didnt have enough hands or time to get into the bathrooms until after rushes etc

Zamorino h ya. I work in a PizzaHut. During rushes the kitchen can get crazy especially if the cook is frantic and flings cheese everywhere, but we always make sure to keep the make table wipes down and organized. I’ll sweep the floor for cooks if they are too busy to do it. But bathrooms are a different story. Customers can be very nasty. We usually don’t have time to clean the bathrooms every hour. We mainly focus on the kitchen area since that’s where most of the action is happening.

I used to work as a line cook at a Mexican restaurant. There was this raccon in the back that would frequently scare waitresses going to their cars at night. So on one Friday night when it was spotted, a coworker of mine went in the back and beat it to death. It was left in the back decomposing for about a week b4 the owner caught wind of the situation. Never had I felt more uncomfortable in a workspace.

I was working fast food a while back, at a place whose manager was a clean freak. Meaning we always had good inspections. One day, I was training a new employee, when the inspector came in. While my manager was showing him around, I had the new kid start some dishes. I asked him to drain out the old wash water, and when he did, the floor drains all decided to back up. Greasy water began pooling on the floor. As if that weren't bad enough, new kid decides to plunge the sink drain. Fine, except he ignores the sink plunger right next to the sink, walks into the bathroom, and grabs the toilet plunger! Proceeds to try to stick it in our dish sink, right in front of the health inspector! My manager and I had to scream at him to stop! Didn't get our best marks that day...
Of course everything goes wrong on the day of inspection. XD

Former Inspector here. I recall a time when myself and another inspector went out to a local pizza join in town that was popular and had been around forever. We begin the inspection and check the freezer, which is full of ice build-up and their gauges weren't reading proper temperature. Then we see their storage for the frozen foods - everything is stacked up as high as it will go in the shipping boxes they arrived off truck in. We explain to them that the foods (various meats sauces and breads) all had to be separated and divided by shelves as to prevent contact from one another and off of the ground (oh yeah, they were all just sitting on the floor).
Afterwards, we begin to inspect the kitchen. Great start when you find several spots of mold and mouse droppings behind the equipment and prep stations. Proceed to find even MORE droppings and dead mice around machines, vents and other areas. Then we get to the front of house - MORE droppings and dead mice! Bathrooms and closets? DROPPINGS AND MICE! We commended them that their traps were in fact working, but we had to write them up for several violations including the droppings, mold, freezer storage, and they had multiple holes in their walls.
So yeah . . .that was fun.
What was the aftermath for the store?

These are pretty funny but the only thing I'm TOTALLY against is the story about checking out the bathroom to have an idea of the state of the kitchen. In all of the restaurants I've worked in and the other cooks and waiters that I've met, not in a SINGLE one has that ever correlated. Either the front of house cleaned the bathrooms or had an outside company come in to clean them. The cooks and chefs in the back of house would NEVER wash the bathrooms where clients can access. Not only do they not have the time for that, but could you imagine the concept of the cook washing shit off the floor and then going anywhere near the food? Nope. The back of the house deals with the back and the front deals with the front.
There can be some correlation, as it relates to work ethos at the establishment. While clean toilet doesn't necessarily mean clean kitchen, dirty toilet is a warning sign that the owners/managers aren't holding their staff to high standards when it comes to cleaning.
I hope all of these business where shut down permanently and the owners wernt allowed to go into food service EVER again
A local takeaway close to me shut down out of nowhere one time. It had been there many years and was known by everyone around this area. Sells your usual stuff: kebabs, pizza, fries, burgers; all your usual greasy food you want after a night at the pub. There are thousands of shops like this in the UK.
Word got out that it’s hygiene was deplorable. The Indians or whatever they were who owned and worked the place allegedly shat in buckets, and there was a diabolical rat & mouse infestation. The place was beyond filthy. It was, of course, closed down.
The owner of the place that now resides there (which has great food you can see them make from scratch) informed us one time that the owner of the former business destroyed some of the equipment fitted to the building before he left - 10’s of 1000’s of £ in damages - in a horrifyingly bratty and entitled fit of rage. It took the new place years to make the money back they spent on the replacements and repairs. A quick internet search reveals its last inspection was in 2012 and that it requires “immediate improvement”, presumably the nail in the coffin.
I have a feeling I read about a place like that in the national news or something..

I worked full-time at a Sonic Drive-In Restaurant for one Summer during college. Honestly, I never saw one insect in the building, except for the flies that occasionally came in when the door was open. I also worked a month at a Grocery Store Deli, and I can say the same thing about that place, also! I will say this, though, cleaning the fryers is a royal pain in the ass.
All those people that watched these things happen and didn't say anything should only be allowed to eat that dumpster food. You're telling me your mom watched some woman eat meat that was just fished out of a trash can? She just let that happen? Didn't say anything?

My grandfather told me about this Chinese restaurant that him and my uncle would eat at. It was the closest place to work so it was just convenient. He always thought the meat looked and tasted a little funny, but hey it was cheep and he had been eating there for weeks. Not a health inspector, but my father did plumbing for (amongst other applications, including industrial systems) restaurants, and I helped him along when I was a lad, so I have seen a fair share of restaurant kitchens in 1990s - early 2000s Italy.
Most were run with absolute zeal and you could've probably gotten surgery on the dirtiest table, but there was this seaside restaurant which was a truly appalling disaster scene. Call came in about clogged drainage, turns out they were throwing so much shit down the sink drain and the *floor drainages* a mass of rotting food scraps and goddamn worms had formed downpipe. The floor was covered in refuse-encrusted sand, and from the fridge came a smell that can only be described as "revolting". Food was put on plates that were barely clean enough to pass as clean and sent out.
Eventually they were shut down because they were found out recycling the wooden sticks off their seawood skewers, and the restaurant was only allowed to re-open under a new management after a monumental fine (after all, it was far from their first strike). Nowadays it's still the kind of shitty, overpriced seaside restaurant you'd only find on Adriatic beach towns, but at least it can pass a health inspections.

Worked in a 19th hole bar and grill (golf club) on Maui and had constant issues with bug despite how hard we worked on cleaning procedures. One day, while working on desserts, I see my chef freeze mid sentence. She gets a look of horror and points down the hall behind me at a throwback from the cetacean period. Ten feet away from me was a prehistoric grandpappy of a centipede scuttling along the work tables. It must have been two feet long and thicker than my big toe.
Being the manly 23yr old badass I was, I noped the fuck outta there screaming in a pitch that only dogs can hear. 10 minutes, a beach towel, a claw grabber, a dustpan, and a broom later and we got it outside and onto the grass behind the golf course. Despite working in a kitchen, I don’t think I could have produced enough fire to kill that hundred legged abomination!

This reminds me of my high school biology teacher's pet millipede that was a 20 year old giant of its kind. However, unlike those jackass centipedes, this millipede was super nice and even welcomed petting, which most of the class was terrified asf to do, but i like millipedes so i liked to pet it and occasionally let it hang out on my arm. That one tarantula story has happened to me, i saw a humongous spider at a restaurant, and i told a server, he told me that they have a tarantula in the kitchen so he can kill rats and roaches.

Any health inspectors in easton PA? I know of a company that when I worked there didnt tell me to wash my hands, didnt have running water in the bathroom other than the toilet, and didnt provide any gloves in a whole sale food service. The only thing they cared about was to not have these huge 10 gallon buckets not touching the floor. I felt disgusting working there and left the first day because I felt like the only person who cared about food safety and health standards.

Feel the need to point this out. The bathroom is the responsibility of the people who work in front of the house, not the kitchen workers. A dirty bathroom is only a sign that the staff is poorly managed when you can tell that it hasn't been cleaned in a long time, but if the mess appears to be from the same day, then there's a very good chance that the staff simply haven't had a chance to clean the bathroom yet, as it isn't the highest priority for any single worker.
I was checking out an apartment for the first time without reading reviews of the place.
The lady giving me a tour around the place was really nice and the whole tour was going really well until we went into one of the apartments and walked into the bathroom.
No joke, at least 20+ bees managed to get inside through one of the vents. She quickly shut the door and her face got so red. Let’s just say I didn’t chose that apartment complex.

When I worked as a produce manager, the store I was in at the time got shut down because a few roof rats were found in one of the stock rooms adjacent to the back door. Store manager was going to fire the department Manger in charge of that room until the health inspector noticed the back door of the building was damaged and had a large enough gap underneath for most rats to sneak under through. It came to light that the store manager was ordered to put in a work order to have to door repaired/replaced and never followed through.

Health inspectors will give a free pass to small businesses with owners that dont know what they’re doing, but will shut down a mcdonalds or a chain grocery store if they have a single issue. I worked for a small foreign market once, and the health inspector asked to see the person who had the servesafe certification that was on the wall. I told him that is the previous owners servsafe and that no one working here has one currently. My boss said “can we just pretend he works here so i dont have to spend $100 to take the servsafe test?” The inspector said sure.... drives me insane. Customers pointed out that there were maggots in our peanuts and the owner refused to get ride of them, and continued to get them from a local chinese restaurant (they gave my boss their expired peanuts right out of their trash can for free and then my boss turned right around and packaged them+sold them to customers for full price)
I feel like years from now if I ever own a restaurant I'd be like that boss who owned Eduardo.

Worst thing I have witnessed was in Jaipur, India: people prepping breads in the hot, dusty street filled with goats and cows then proceeding to carry the finished product through a mound of *rotting chicken heads.* This pile was perhaps 1m high and had all kinds of creatures wading through it. I have never smelt something so foul as that mix between rotting flesh and feces baking in 40° (100°F ish) heat. And less than 2 meters away, people were cooking. Like wtf.

5:08. That's probably true, My first job was washing dishes in a restaurant, but if I had the morning shift the FIRST thing i was required to do was clean the bathrooms before they opened. OMG i hated it lol and they would always go check them after and tell me if i needed to go back and do more. I hated cleaning the mens bathrooms, there was usually piss everywhere. ugh. but the kitchen itself was very clean and everyone was very careful with the food.
Not me but my buddy went to this restaurant that sold some burgers better known as “krabby patties” and almost died because an employee and the owner of said restaurant made a“krabby patty” that was diseased with nail clippings and old sock juice, etc. the thing is, it was a fly that flew into his throat that made him almost die :/

I've been in charge of several kitchens I'm the past... Met a cook that was close to 70 years old. He used to shut the prep table off because it would ice up a little bit... Walked by and noticed fruit flys... Meat and veggies were sitting at room temperature all day.. needles to say he wasn't around much longer after I took over the place.

Worked at a big chain cafe (line chef at the time) on day 3 I was sweeping under the cooking equipment (fryer and stove) and no less than 5 cockroaches ran TOWARD me as I swept...if you know bugs they rarely if ever scurry toward the things that can kill them. Upon moving the equipment to clean my new work area..I discovered that this place had never been cleaned after being shut down and reopened...only that the owner would pay the health inspector loads of money to get a passing grade. The placed stayed open nearly 1 year to the day I quit. When I asked the ownee of the shop next door he said he had to call health inspection to get a different guy out here because his Nik Nak shop had a roach infestation and his shop has zero food in it. It was pretty bad.

My mother is a Health Inspector. She works mostly on hospitals now, but she has told me some pretty wild stories.
• Saw scorpions in the medicine storage area
• Ha to close a hospital because all medicine was expired by almost a decade and had a infiltration problem
• Got someone to put a gun to her head because she said they had to change the sanitization methods in a bars kitchen
• Had to close a restaurant that let dogs in the kitchen (as in mess with the food)
• Had a hospital she had been giving warnings for years try to acuse her of burning their medicines
• Has had owners of restaurants and hospital directors try to either bribe or scare her from fining them
My advice to you...don’t go to a restaurant before they are about to close...they will do a half ass job

My cousin works on commercial kitchen equipment for local restaurants, especially some of the refrigeration units, and he said you'd be surprised at the state of most of the kitchens. He said that usually health inspectors will notify a place of a week when they're likely to drop in, though not the exact day, so it's a slight surprise, but not exactly. He said that the owners and staff would "clean up" their act for the expected period of when the inspectors are likely to drop in, but then go back to business as usual (and it's not just the lower rated places, but even the ones rated A or B.)

not a restaurant, but I used to work at a pet boarder & groomer. it was a super old building so grime was to be expected, but the levels of filth I saw was appalling over my 2 years of working there. the owner didn’t seem to give a shit that the building was falling apart and pet waste had basically fused into every surface.... glad to say that I now work at a very clean and tidy local coffee shop.

This reminded me of when we were at my Aunt’s house, and she was talking about a overly done birthday party for a one year old. It was held at the fanciest and most expensive Chinese restaurant in her town. She went to this party with my younger cousins (I believe 7 to 11 years old), and during the next week she was super sick to the stomach. This lasted about a week, and then she was fine. Turns out that the kitchen of the restaurant had cockroaches all over the floor. The cooks would also, if food was dropped, would be picked up and put on the plate like it was normal. She also said that her friend and son went, and got really sick. I think she was glad that her kids were picky eaters, or they would have gotten sick too!
Never eat Hospital food, I was bed ridden in a Hospital for nearly 14 days and didn't touch any food they gave me; finally they sent some nutritionist&psychiatrist team to see if I was recovering from my surgery or not, when they asked why I didn't eat Hospital food I told them "I don't trust this food" neither of them even tried to convince me, they just said "keep having your family bring food for you" lol

I have a little horror story. Germany, 1983 a little town in a rural area. A butcher shop, famous for it's sausages and other related products for miles and miles arround. Everyone was curious, what his secret may be.
Well, turns out every sunday morning, after a long night of heavy drinking, the butcher went down to the kitchen and puked in the big vat, where the sausage ingredients where stored.
This came to light by someone drinking with him and following him afterwards.
After the it came out, his wife divorced him, his butchery shut down, he was shunned by anyone he knew. He kicked up his drinking habit and died a couple years later.
All these years... Delicious puke sausages.

I have had the same spider in the corner where my house meets my garage every summer for at least 4 years. Besides being the same species of spider I know it’s the same one because it spins it’s web in the exact same spot and same kind of web every time. It’s huge and near a light and uses it’s hammock like web to catch mosquitos and June bugs. He is usually hidden but if you put a bug on his web he comes right out to pull it inside the crack.

edit: about the kitchen , if the thing with the bathroom is correct ,the kitchen in a local chinese bbq / buffet restaurant must be clean af , their bathrooms are among the most clean bathrooms i ever saw , they also have a show kitchen in the front which looks perfectly fine too but they prepare some things in the back
For the giant tarantula...technically,if it was more pet-like,it could be there.I doubt if its huge that itd touch other food sources unless its raw meat,and raw meat would be watched normally if out and if not in a fridge or freezer,somewhere I doubt it could get,so technically its not going to harm anything really
