It has many uses but the most practical I’ve found for compression (outside the studio) is when you can’t turn up your amp loud enough to hit the sweet spot that it’ll compress naturally
After playing a buddy's vintage Rickenbacker 12-string, I finally understood why the intro solo was so spastic. The necks/fingerboards on those things are barely wide enough for 6 strings, let alone 12!
Andy is the best playing to the strength of a given piece of kit. His demos made up my mind on a lot of the guitar & pedal gear I bought. I use an EHX Black Finger tube compressor to bring out the vintage vibes. Thanks Andy & Reverb for the video
That 8 miles high is perhaps the most tasteful choice of a cover picked up for an intro you have ever made Andy. If you were to do it all over again, you probably would do it differently too. It's such an open composition.
Compressors are my favorite pedal. I can dial-in my favorite clean tones. I can get that John Mayer sound, Stevie Ray Vaughan's glassy tone. You can get those high-end expensive tones. Super handy pedals.
Keeley Compressor Plus! Best compressor for any genre (even as outboard gear sometimes!) it’s smooth dynamics, attack/release pickup switch and its sustain! And did I forget to mention it’s price!
That Tele sounds great. I for some reason am having a problem justifying spending the money on a good one. I think I may be able to find a dual purpose pedal with a compressor in it.
??? I do not understand what you mean- are you praising or minimizing the pedal, compressor concept? I am having a hard time with just buying a compressor pedal, with out any additional features.
Mark Lugg I’m the opposite. Comps sound like the guitar is made out of plastic to me. The only one I like is the Harlow, because it mimics what a tube amp does.
My compressor sounds better in the off position. I'm not joking tried unplugging power supply then I removed it from my daisy chain which made the sound from bad to even worse.

Andy nails the Byrds, that Reverand -jangly goodness
This guy is a phenomenal guitar player!
Q: Need a pick for 12-string?
A: Nope.
How does he do it? I can't see how he gets the pick sound.
Awesome intro! Eight miles high from The Byrds!
Sorry. The Byrds.

It doesn't matter how bad you play it because Mcguinn couldn't do it any better
It's weird hearing him say "hey, it's Andy with Reverb", instead of "Proguitarshop".
I hate it. I hate reverb. Uh
@@patrickrosington1174 why? You hate capitalism or something

Now if only UA-cam would stop compressing this video to 144
Not the compressor we need, but the compressor we deserve
Una cosa es comprimir el rango dinámico y otra cosa eso es lo que hace UA-cam.
I knowwwwww
Awesome video Andy! Gotta say I seriously dig that 12 string Reverend!!
tons of videos about compressors. but im a simple man. i see Andy, i click.
I liked the sound of that Hyper Luminal the best.
It's amazing how few give you control over attack, ratio, threshold, blend.
Always a pleasure, Andy
I bought the Unit 67. It's so good. Tom Petty type chime, and much more
I just got a Unit67 -- lovin it.
Compressors are my favorite pedal. I can dial-in my favorite clean tones. I can get that John Mayer sound, Stevie Ray Vaughan's glassy tone. You can get those high-end expensive tones. Super handy pedals.
did this dude just swipe right on a guitar pedal
Nice playing. You really nailed it.

Damn Andy - you've got it goin' bossa nova man!!

Wow, seems like the unit 67 would be an excellent tool on bass.
My Heart broke when I saw the Ibanez Artist just like one I used to have.
Get another one :)
@@scooter5005 nearly impossible
I thought the same thing I had an ar300 1982
Andy’s got this for sale now! Go for it!👍
Is the malekko worth the money? It’s so damn cute
Wow I freaking love eight miles high the riffing is so jenky
I know its a compressor vid, but you are really making me regret trading in my Ibanez guitar.
Beginning of video*
"So what ya gonna play for the intro?"
"All the notes*
great intro
such a great song..
I really miss Andy’s Tobacco Les Paul. 😞
I guess I’m not quite there yet as a guitarist. I can’t really hear the benefit of this pedal
Theres definitely some quiet and sad side to guitar without it
Sounds more studio ready with one
Which cheap compressor would you recomend? I am not a beginner but I never had one before and I don't have that much money
Unit 67 is what would be my choice. You hardly hear the 'negative' effects of a compressor.
Eight Miles High was good but needed more cocaine.
Acid. Groovy
??? I do not understand what you mean- are you praising or minimizing the pedal, compressor concept? I am having a hard time with just buying a compressor pedal, with out any additional features.
The compressor pro does the same thing as the keeley compressor plus (plus more) correct?
Trying to get a better understanding here 😂
I've never been able to play without a compressor of some sort. It just doesn't sound or feel right without one.
Mark Lugg I’m the opposite. Comps sound like the guitar is made out of plastic to me. The only one I like is the Harlow, because it mimics what a tube amp does.
How does the Janglebox stack up?
Okay, that's enough Henry Kaiser.
Which compression pedal would be best for nylon-string acoustic?
I like it that he had litterally my guitar hanging on the wall, well not litterally mine but you get what I mean
Phish - Blaze On?
I had to rewind it too when I first heard it, but no I don't think so
My compressor sounds better in the off position. I'm not joking tried unplugging power supply then I removed it from my daisy chain which made the sound from bad to even worse.
Do you know songs that use these compressors?
Darkglass has attack and release setting too ._. just plug it in a computer
Never used needed or wanted a compressor.
What’s that 12 string?
I own a sp compressor by exotic effects.
Yoshi_Dino_Kiddo I tried an SP in a music store. Nice compressor!
I hated compressors until i tried the SP and it's an "always on" pedal on my board now
jfc andy you're ripping McGuinn a new one here!
2:06
WHAT SONG?
is it by Prince?
It's actually Rattlesnake by King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard
the thumbnail for this video is a blessed image
Andy, wich uncovered neck tele pickup is it ? thanks
Andy has said its a Bill Lawerence USA mid 80s s1 or S2 black label strat pickup
yeah I still don't get it.
How are you supposed to adjust the ratio and comp type on the Super luminal? There's no knobs there
Capacitive buttons under the lights
@@MrDonc78 sounds like wayy to much to go wrong and imppssible to fix myself lol
Where is aNaLoGmAn's Bi-Comprosser & the Origin Effects Cali76?????
I like compression in small doses
Should of used a strat and played Can't Stop by the RHCP
Couldn’t watch through the guitar playing
Thought I was going to get a lesson on compression predals. Not an advertisment
What was the first song
Byrds - Eight Miles High
Still dont understand them, guess they arent for me lol
Gabe511 it can make your hard playing as loud as your soft playing. That’s a simple way of putting it
No one needs a compressor. Not really
Great review but should admit I don't like compressors at all
Jesus Andy put a shirt on
Lol
Mike Munoz two years to finally get some recognition for this zinger, thank you my friend
How about some new blood on Reverb?
Stratocaster Man - wow, short attention span 😂😂

The one time Andy doesn't nail a tone.. need a pick to get that jangle just right
I think he nailed it. Check out the original. m.ua-cam.com/video/J74ttSR8lEg/v-deo.html
Didn't understand the intro at all hahahahaha wtf was that
Matthew Law Give a listen to the Byrds.
Some might call it "music."
Well sonny that was a band called the Byrds they couldn't spell but they were far out man
blaze on
8 Miles High! Yes!
