You reminded me I need to make some road tiles for my 28mm figures...the to-do list grows...lots of fun. Thanks for another fine video.

What a great demo game! Next week I am attending Cold Wars, at Valley Forge. I intend to but the rules for this game (and also Chosen Men, which you also did a great job of demonstrating). Thank you for your clear and enthusiastic teaching.

Been on the fence about this game, but I think I'm going to move in the direction of getting it. Thanks for this playthrough!

Been waiting for this one! I prefer this to Chosen Men and see no reason why it needs to be restricted to North America.

Agreed. I need to get a proper line of battle between French and British to really put the Close Order rules through thier paces. The heavy terrain and Native farmer tactics mean that I haven't seen much lining up yet.

A couple of things: When rolling for action if you roll a Natural 2 or 12, a random event happens. Aggressive gives a +1DRM hit bonus in Melee and follow-up (if unit does not already have it), no bonus to perform the Fight action. Walls/hedges/fences do not cost inches to cross, they stop movement, next move without penalty.

      @TheJoyofWargaming  Рік тому +1

If you hit a wall that is being defended, does that stop movement?
Or is this a case where you make an Attack action to charge, and count the wall as part of the enemy unit for contact purposes?

Heaps of Awesomeness! Love to see such obscure conflicts shown! And using one of my favourite rules! Fantastic figures Jon!
And, because it's me, and you apparently like rules geeks like me pointing out errors...
    1. You forgot one of the best parts about R&P - random events if you roll a 2 or 12 for activation.
    2. Disordered units don't follow up in melee.
    3. You make the choice to followup immediately, and fight another round without morale test. It's not terribly clear, but we've interpreted the rules as making officer casualty and morale rolls immediately, and then perhaps following up, based on my second point.
    4. "Native" units cannot ever form close order. You didn't do so, but you were thinking about it.
    5. Native units cannot ever fire, they can only skirmish. But when skirmishing, they only use half dice.
    6. When failing a rally roll (like the horse did) but not routing, they retreat have a move. Which would have opened up the Vendean leader to cannon fire.
    7. I don't think you rolled for that Vendean leader everytime his unit got hit with cannon.
    8. Didn't come into play, but I think you mentioned that first fire is only for shooting. It's not; it's first shoot OR first melee by that unit. (Which makes aggressive Shock troops terrifying in their first charge, as they hit on a 2+).
I think the only real solution to this is to play R&P a lot more, using your collection and putting the videos up for us to watch and enjoy! 😉. Again, really entertaining and inspiring. I'm very tempted to pop over to Irregular and Lancashire to pick up a force of Vendeans and Revolutionaries because of you!

We get better on most of these moving forward. 5Istill for get the special events on twos and twelves sometimes.

In his After Action Report, Baron Le Noble Obliege said, "Quantity has a quality all its own!" and praised the steadfastness of his farmers and other volunteers. The ones that broke and ran will be distributed to other units. The Revolutionary survivors face a uncertain future. Captain "Hard" Fromage is going to have to do some fancy tap dancing to explain the defeat... not to mention the loss of the artillery... to avoid the fate of being, "Shot to encourage the others." ! The Dragoons are counting on their "Elite" status to save them from their poor performance. The rules went smoothly and I'm looking forward to the next one!

It has a lot of if/then exceptions that have been hard to internalize - mostly because of the rut established by the wagons of Dragon/Lion Rampant. Once I get a few game in and get comfortable with the possibilities of close order, it starts to flow really smoothly.

Something about this terrain setup inspired me. Would be interesting to take a particular terrain setup and run scenarios from different parts of history through it. Would see how the identical terrain affects different era's military capability. Also, highlight how different rule sets treat terrain effects.

I ran orcs vs humans+-44/side with two rule sets over same terrain.
Fistful of Lead Orcs blew out the humans.
Dragon Rampant Orcs won, but paid for it with a higher body count.

I enjoyed this batrep. I started the Rampants with Xenos Rampant and now have Lion and just picked this ruleset up this weekend. Glad to see this iteration plays just as well with solo play. I play with my kids but at this stage it's pretty much narrated/interactive solo play with them playing the board.

The Royalists are mostly Blue Moon/Old Glory.
The Revolutionaries are mostly Essex. They are a mix of CounterRevolution and true Napoleonic era.

Rebels and Patriots is officially designated for North American warfare, but as Jon has ably demonstrated, it works very well for Europe. But it is perfect for the F&I struggle.
Honours of War is only for the Seven Years War. It doesn't do F&I at all, nor is it suitable. But although it's not a "Rampant" title, I really like it for the SYW!

I have to admit, I was sorry for the Vendeans having to suffer your horrible activation dice rolls for the middle half the game. Glad to see that turned around in the end to give them a victory.
