For Puffin puck tether, thats the only way to get to ultra light headsets. Assuming they use the holographc pancake lenses, then itll be sunglasses form factor.
yep, people doesnt really know about what reality labs keeping behind doors even though they are publicly shown and spoken about. holocake lenses, eye tracking with holographic lenses with lesser cameras, fullbody tracking with only 2 rgb camera using glasses, drivable codecs with realtime clothing options, neural passthrough etc.
Benefit of puck battery is you can replace it with new one easily when batter depreciates always making the headset working not needing to be replaced due to battery. I’m sure Apple copied a lot of headsets before their release.
The "puck" should be a pendant or shroud wore around out neck--like those personal coolers used in Japan. You can put more weight on your shoulders or on a lanyard/necklace
a puck design with the whole cpu and battery , making the headset inanely light would be a game changer , the quest 3 is too dam heavy i dont care what headstrap u use, it needs to be way lighter
A few episodes ago, I talked about there being lore in this channel, and right off the bat in this video, it says "Steve Knowles" in the corner. Is this a alternate personality to Steve? Is the 'le' gonna spell something when combined with other letters? SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!

I don't care that they're coping Apple, I care that they're copying the worst of Apple. One of the best things about Quest 2/3 to me is that the truly cumbersome hardware stuff is optional. If I don't wanna have a battery on the back of my head ala Pico I don't have to... but I can OPTIONALLY use that as expansion. If I don't wanna have a soap-on-a-rope battery ala Apple Vision Pro I don't have to... but I can OPTIONALLY use that as expansion. I don't ever wanna buy a Quest that makes a back of the head or cable-tethered battery mandatory. If they wanna copy something from Apple... copy the simplicity of the app drawer.
OR copy the media viewing experience. Serious question: have you ever tried to buy into this future where we have this huge archive of personal 3D, panoramic & 360° content? I've been doing it since the 3DOF era of GearVR/Oculus Go... and it's cooool to just relive memories in media that's more dynamic than the regular picture or video. Or at least it was on GearVR/Oculus Go. Without Samsung Gallery VR or Oculus Gallery, trying to just go through a few folders of mixed media is un-nervingly cumbersome. Meta wants us to leave those behind in favor of Meta Quest TV which can't even see separate directories or the Files app which has more problems than I've got time to list. So not only is Apple Vision Pro better at viewing mixed media, but so is the era of Oculus VR that Meta wants us to forget exists.
I came into the quest eco system to late for the damn Marvel VR game, I watched a family play to together and they defeated Thanos. I was super disappointed it was no longer available by the time I got an Oculus. I bit the bullet and got a MQ3 finally, it's pretty good I guess.
I want the puck. I want to offload cpu power and battery weight to an external source. (Wireless or not). We have powerful phones and power consoles and pcs. Let them do the work and be loud and hot somewhere NOT on my face.
Couldnt agree more. Meta led the way for God sake. Instead of copying a headset that has only sold a few thousand units. When Meta has sold millions! Instead of drip feeding us, incremental updates every bloody 5 minutes. Why not 1 massive update every Quarter that makes people go "WOW!!!!!"
I'm done with Meta/Quest! Started with Q2 which work flawlessly then moved onto Q3...Worst decision! I'm on my 4th Q3 due to 'tracking issues' which basically made the unit unplayable. Meta replace your headset (even under warranty) with a refurbed unit - so essentially you send a defective unit to them and they send you a unit that was defective, back to you. From what I've read, since Meta sent an update to all units...thousands of units became defective. I'll start looking for an alternative headset from another company.
pico may bring in a new wave of interest with pico 4 ultra focussed on spacial computing/videos and MR else VR is almost dead , ! No one trying to get OLED displays into the VR other than apple vission pro [non VR] - why ?
The puck battery is a safety issue we need to get the battery out of the headsets because if they explode they can cause eye damage. Also if the battery is outside the headset you're not constrained to lower the power consumption of the headset as much and can put better chipsets in the headset
Out of the close to 30 million headsets that has never happened. The Quest uses a pouch cell battery which I’m familiar with. They are known to expand, but there is no information of one ever exploding in a headset. The Quest is actually known for having notoriously durable batteries.
It's codenamed puffin because they were smokin' something when they made the decision to add a puck 🥴 Seriously though, I don't see Meta copying Apple. I see Meta attempting to close the gap between them in an attempt to achieve the "Why pay $3500 when I can get..." method. What needs to be realized is that Meta HAS made its headset damn close to Apple's, but STILL has the best VR gaming library out there, buy a huge margin. It's better designed, lighter, better accessories, controllers, and a FRACTION of the price. Meta isn't copying Apple, they're attempting to make them obsolete out of the gate. The 2027 headset will be an AR headset, super light, way cheaper than Vision Pro, by then with vastly better mixed reality tech, better hand tracking, and we don't yet know whether or not it will have a tether or be wireless. Air link will have evolved dramatically by then as well. There's more there than most aren't thinking about. Say what you want, but when it comes to headsets, Meta is the best. They saw that VR was dying not long after rift came out and that the cost of entry was to blame, so they had the foresight, and balls, to cut early and change strategy. I'm sorry, but Meta may have saved VR, or at least given it a revenue stream enough to not destroy its funding mechanism to the point of closing up shop, and in doing so, keeping on life support the ability to R&D their way to some form of profitable venture. However.....I can't speak for the future, but my gut says there's a limit to what humans want in terms of synthetic reality, but this could change with the form the tech takes. Right now, more than an hour or two in the Quest 3 is tough on the eyes, in terms of focal, light exposure and weight. If VR/AR/metaverse is a thing long enough, then it becomes glasses, higher PPI,
Who cares if meta copies apple on some things, or if apple copies meta on some things. The masses want the best affordable headset money can buy for the experience. It’s all about the experience for the users. The masses keep buying cod games knowing anti cheat doesn’t really work, but want the cod gaming experience.
I didn't know the point was to be anti-Apple. I thought it was to get the best headset and best VR experience possible. Apple introduced a lot of good concepts that I'm GLAD Meta copied. The Quest 3 is better for it. And the puck battery makes sense right now. There's really no other way to get the kind of headsets we want while keeping the battery inside. This still allows for free range of motion and isn't that big of a deal. It feels like you might be a VR enthusiast for the counter-culture aspects, not necessarily just for the tech benefits. Because otherwise, why would it matter that Meta copied good ideas? I want the BEST headset, I don't care if it's the most original. That doesn't matter to me or most people. But hey, to each their own, you know?
What the hell are you on about. Can someone not be negative about a product that is a failure. There is a reason it flopped and is practically abandoned already by Apple.
Mark Zuckerberg hasn't officially endorsed Donald trump. He's publicly stated he's not endorsing either. He just called Trump a badass for surviving the assassination attempt. I wouldn't take that too seriously, or take that as a full official endorsement advocating for another Trump administration.
@googleuser3553 he also admitted he lied and censored truth because the Biden admin pressured him too. I like how liberals use emotion and partial facts. You statement should of said " Zuckerberg came out and said he was told what to do by Biden team on facebook, so now he wants Trump so that there is no censorship on his platform" that is the facts, since as they say, facts matter.
Japan hiking the price up for them over there, is simple...they don't want their kids and adults wasting so much got dam time on video games. should of done that world wide and along time ago imo. men and boys are the same thing anymore and its a sick joke. i think their doing something simular to chinas limited game play laws, but using the price to play more, not to violate their peoples rights.

On Friday my Quest 3 went through the V69 update and it took forever. When it restarted, it says I'm still on V68.
Confused here...
I wonder if it's named puffin as puffins usually live off-shore and the battery is kind of off-shore from the headset
Okay now we’re thinking outside of the box haha :) love it
Hand tracking is nice, but I really need the haptic feedback you get from the controllers. It feels like an empty experience without it.
