Gangs and drugs from illegals and people from California are moving in. Most places in Provo is concrete condos. They are killing the views of the mountains. The best decision I ever made was moving out of Utah.
One thing Utah has in general, is very good Public Transit. Their Lightrail and bus system is really good. Not as good as Portland's Max system, but pretty close.
Nightlife? Theres like 1 bar in Provo. Well each city has 1-2 bars. Sometimes you get live music which is pretty packed, but cool. The live music bars (local bands) do require an entrance fee. Went to a rave in SLC before, but it wasn't like a rave rave. It felt barely like clubbing. I don't know of any place around here for clubbing really. Nature -wise... there's ALOT of awesome trails, nature to take in. Each city has their festivals in season, check out their info centers to get the dates on those. In season... There's events like Oktoberfest, Rennaisance festival, steampunk convention, Comicon. Some towns have farmers' markets in the summer, but it's kinda like a quarter of a block large, and just produce and local goods. Sometimes on a rare occasion, there's live music. It's not like a 'farmer's market'. I'm back from the east - so I'm more used to farmers markets being like 15-20 acres with dance and live music Scale takes some time to get used to here in UT lol I remarked to a fellow Utahn I don't see many rivers here while in the passenger's seat. They got annoyed with my comment and drove to a 'River' to point it out to me. That 'River' turned out to be a seasonal irrigation ditch. I go into the discussion of what a ditch is vs creek (they call it Cr'ik) vs a river. I had to do some explaining that a river is usually a passage of water that needs to be traversed across by a bridge and not be called a river if you can put a foot on each bank/ standing across it >_> Provo used to have a hot air balloon launch in October-Nov, (would be like 20-25 balloons launching at once) but haven't seen it go on in the last few years. Stuff to Do in general: Usually costs money and going up to SLC. Theres a place called Gardener's Village.. it's a small historical polygamist town that was remade into a collection of modern shops and a pretty good restaurant (no polygamists no longer inhabit there, it was just used as a retail/ commerce outlet) They have some live music on Saturdays and change their shops layout by season. I tend to enjoy walking downtown some quaint towns and check out their antique stores, or discover a new shop. Haven't checked out the art gallery in SLC yet, need to do that sometimes still - Once covid lets up.
Utah has a disproportionately high number of homeless people who can sometimes get violently aggressive with their panhandling, the police cannot be everywhere all the time, it can be more aggressive at night, Utah is a constitutional carry state, which means that no one needs a permit to conceal carry a weapon, which I recommend everyone do
@@PurpleObscuration yeah , homelessness seems to be a growing problem but I think UT or Idaho are good places to invest. I've been keeping up with construction trends in desert communities for a couple years and I see these areas as the new silicon Valley. I ruined my credit but if I could go back 10 years , I'd start out investing 15% of my income and putting a down payment on one of those houses as soon as I have enough. I'm slowly starting over investing 10% on bitcoin as the projected price will increase 10x by 2030
I really want to move to Provo UT. I have many tattoos and wonder if people would frown upon it. Also, I'm mostly atheist, but am respectful to people's religions. Would they be judgemental on someone who enjoys beer or alcohol?
Yes they will. If you have kids other parents won't let their kids play with your kids because of your tattoos. People will say that it doesn't seem to matter but it really does.
Probably not. I would imagine that they respect your views and beliefs just like they do elsewhere. However, I know that much of the area culture is based on the LDS influence. As a Christian (or really any non-LDS member), that likely could be a tough pill to swallow. It is a turn-off for me for sure.
No most of them don't bother you there maybe a few missionaries but they are very polite and will respect your choices and the LDS people are good about helping people in need even if they are not part of their religion they will still help they have helped me several times but no they won't bother you whatever religion you claim
I strongly disagree with both previous comments, mormons will ignore you and disrespect you if you are not a mormons (in my opinion) some find that odd but I don't, I'm really too busy with stuff and dislike small talk, it's a waste of my time
inversion = probably better in Provo, Utah then in Kabul, Afghanistan. At least in Provo they don't burn tires and bodies for heat in the winter. Great video BTW! Very informative
I was recently offered a job in the area and, after a lot of research, decided to turn it down. I just don't think the area is good for a hockey-loving pot smoking alcohol-chugging non-LDS guy like me. You hit on it some in the video but that lack of diversity was a real turn-off. I need diversity of thought more than anything. I do think that it is a beautiful area, though. It probably just caters more to a certain kind of person that isn't me.
Actually he knows nothing of Utah County I was born and raised in Provo Utah and there is diversity here we have catholic and Christians we have jack Mormons or people like myself I believe in more than one God we also have some latin influences and me also have 2 bars in Provo 2 in Orem 1 in PG called the pool hall it stays open until 2am. The 2 in Provo one is city limits and the other is atchaflyah I'm not sure how to spell that one but it stays open until 2am but if you don't like the city life you always have the mountains which is by far the best place in Utah
@@sylviaovard7673 - Easy there. Pump the brakes. You took my statement - a statement that was clearly said in jest - rather personally. I'm glad that you have pride in your home. I do, too. But that doesn't mean that I know nothing about the area.
I have found that people in general are very diverse in their personalities, tastes, views, etc. If they are decent, law abiding people with morals, that's good enough for me.
Thanks for your honest opinion about diversity, that really helped!
Then again, all I need is mountains, beautiful scenery and music on my phone. I can live without a nightlife.
Spot on!
Same I’m moving there for work and I already got my night life out my system. House parties are better anyways
You’re not alone!

As for us we don't mind it at all the lack of night life. Especiallt around Lehi, Highland, Cedar Hills..
Definitely! It can be a big plus if you like the slower side of things.

And for now the UVX is free
I’m glad there is less diversity in Provo.
Diversity equals more crime.
Every city in the U.S. with high diversity has high crime.

Provo has a small but very nice airport Breeze and Allegiant fly in and out download their apps you will be pleasantly surprised at the costs.
I’ll have to check it out. I’ve never flown in or out of there!
Only two dive bars in downtown Provo. There's a semi=classy place near the Spanish Fork Municipal Airport, though.
How much are one bedroom and 2 bedroom apartments in Provo? I will be moving with my children that are looking to buy home's.
Go on Realtor.com.... because it depends
It will vary from about $900-1,400 depending on the location and quality of the apartment!
The mormons are openly hostile to non morons

They made things very difficult and expensive to build our Catholic Church
Yes, they will try to convert you. If they can’t do that, your neighbors will be friendly, but not friends, and your kids will be excluded.
