It sure is
Top video again Jon lovely chub on a tough day 👍please keep videos coming 👍😎
I’ll try! 👍
Well worth the effort Jon. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
The roach on my bit of Warwickshire Avon have been missing for a couple of months now. But the chub fishing was tremendous before the cold snap and the floods. Can’t wait to get back at them once the river has fined down a bit more. This vid has really upped my eagerness to get back on the river. Cheers Jon.
I'm sure they get shoaled up tightly and migrate to other areas. Hope none got stuck in the ditches and field hollows after all the flooding. Never seen the river so high and where it joins the canal was unbelievable.
Magic Jon learning loads from you cheers
No worries
HI John, I have fished that stretch for nearly 40 years and with the state of the Cherwell now you did very well to catch those fish. It used to be one of the most prolific chub stretches of the Cherwell with a very good average size. About 15 or 16 years ago the numbers declined but the average size increased and it wasn't until 2008 that I caught a five pounder there, despite literally dozens of high fours over the years. It is now absolutely gruelling work to catch chub there, and they don't seem that big now either. Great video and good luck on the river.
Yes I think it's bizarre how there are not more fish to catch. Maybe they have gone nocturnal, which is why I caught ok with the extra colour? I have tried some awesome looking pegs and any other river it'd be solid. I've seen otters on it and cormorants so there must be fish there too. It's not heavily fished either. I have heard rumours of pollution too, which wouldn't surprise me with all the farms around it. Still enjoy fishing there as it's such a challenge and puzzle. It's hard to think where the fish might migrate to in winter but I'm sure there will be a pile of them somewhere...
Brilliant Jon. Once you get the first one it warms you up. Cheers
Certainly does :-)
Great bit of fishing jon 👏 you make great videos and a top fisherman 👌🎣🎣🎣
Thanks. I’m no river ace but I try my best.
Great Video Jon. 4 Nice Chub from a river still fining down after a cold spell. Brought back memories from years ago fishing the Avon at Throop for Chub and Batbel on a Waggler. Well done. Keep them coming. Cheers
Cheers Peter 👍
Great watch again, any bites are great in the conditions
Definitely. It's bucketing down again now, so the river is gonna rise pretty quickly again :-(
Really enjoyable film john. Keep em coming.
Cheers I will try my best
Very nice to be out on a river, think the roach may of come to a static bait! But chub will do on any day. With the weather we have had and getting. Top video 👍👏👏
A few mild days and I think a few roach could’ve fed, plus fishing much later in the day. Was told by a passer by that a big dog otter was also seen there very recently...
Great job Jon.
Cheers l&c
A lovely video, my favourite sort of fishing although there are no chub this far North - so I suppose it's thanks for the memories.
But you have lovely grayling instead perhaps?
Nice session, thanks for sharing this 👍👍👍👍
Cheers Pete
Awesome video once again Jon, thanks for the content :-)
Cheers 👍
Awesome mate
Cheers Ant
Nice one John 🐳🐳🐳👍
Thanks 👍
Love these videos 👍
Glad to hear it!
Nice one John not been able to near the weaver this month flowing to fast and over the banks, made me envious lol, nice fishing always worth waiting for a chub.
Thanks Clive. I’m sure I’d’ve caught a few more if I stopped on.
Jon that stretch near that pump house holds some carp too 💪 had them up to 16lbs, fished it for years living at bunkers hill!!
Nice one. I bet there’s a few surprises in there. 👍
Nice video always enjoy your videos when your fishing rivers and canals although I know the commercials are your bread and butter. Mind you I did chuckle when you said you were travelling light with your box strapped over your shoulder no way could I carry my Absolute 36 that far. Keep up the good work Jon, looking forward to your next video
Thanks 👍. Yes no way I could carry my XR36 a mile over a field either, but the F25 is my roving commando mission box and lovely and light with the footplate removed.
The temperature in the Netherlands was -14 degrees in the past week. and expected +18 degrees for the coming weekend. so we can also go fisching again 😉😉👍
Wow, get the suncream out! 😎
Another great video Jon and another good days fishing given the conditions but where's your bike gone 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks Scott
brilliant
Thanks James
Beautiful condition Chub
Yes lovely fish
Inspirational. This is exactly what I should have done last week instead of staying put on the pole and feeder. Brilliant Jon, thank you.
But why am I seeing more and more people leaving the clear wrap on their cork handles?
To be fair I normally peel the cellophane off most of my rods!
Omg genuinely pissed my self at the slow mo 😂😂
😂👍
Would like to see you explain the spade hook tying & the Bolo rig a bit more in-depth , Ive just had a Bolo given , 20ft I think. Great video, hard work pays off. One of the best all rounder fisherman ever.
Ha ha thanks Rob :-)
Excellent Angling again Jon,
Ime sure the last swim would of produced more.
Yes I think a few more was definitely on the cards had i fished on
Well done Jon, Great to see you on the river again, thats all i am doing now, i gave up Match Fishing in 2018 and just fish the rivers now, lovely Barbel and chub Fishing with some roach and dace as well. I was well Impressed with your gear Jon, all colour coordenated even your bread punch, everything looked brand new, Was it ? Hope the Family is well Best Regards Steve
Cheers Steve. Definitely not brand new! Very much used and abused. Love my F25 box for light missions.
@@JonArthur Keep winning Jon all the Best Steve
Nice video, not just the skeetex, my hot boots look the same
You must have them on the wrong feet then! ;-)
Enjoyable and informative!
Why are British anglers so attached to spade-end hooks rather then eyed hooks? Are they really advantageous or just traditional?
Most eyed barbed hooks are simply too strong and thick gauged for the style of fishing anglers like myself do. No probs using eyed for everything if you're after specimens though.
They look like my Skeetex boots, look like they’re on the wrong feet 🤪
Yep the famous Skeetex optical illusion. Wish all footwear was ambidextrous! 😂
What a great video and what a versatile angler, Really enjoyed that one Jon, oh one thing...could you tell which net handle you were using, was it the Horizon 4.5 super slim? is so, how does it compare to the 4M horizon with the two threads? I only really fish rivers and natural venues.
Thanks Mark. Yes I used the 4.5m. Its slimmer, lighter, not as strong as the 4m and only the top section is threaded but defo my choice for rivers if thats all you do. Its definitely more of a silverfish handle.
Do me a favour next time and just start filming when you get the the river. I was knackered walking across that field with you at the start. 😆
Ha ha, need to show you the effort it took to get there! And as Peppa Pig would say, we all love jumping up and down in muddy puddles!
Hi Jon I don’t fish river much. But what Makes you walk past all the other swims on the river. Then sit on the peg you fish. It’s something that just baffles me.
This one I specifically had an area I wanted to fish based on a previous visit. Plus I was travelling light and had every intention of trying a few swims, so it makes sense to start on the furthest swim and work your way back.
Nice bit of Chubbing Jon.
Thanks Stephen :-)
Well done Jon ,result on a hard day ,got to ask ,don't Matrix do a long / bolo rod ?
Sadly not yet. 13ft is max at the mo. Longer rods are a bit specialist really.
Great video Jon 5 STAR what rod are you using Thanks
Cheers. It's a Cadence 15ft No1.
Jon could you ask matrix if they could design a tray cover for the extendable matrix side tray love the video’s by the way thanks George
Watch this space...
When it’s not fishable do the not feed at all for two weeks?
Surely no one knows. Fish have to eat and replace energy fighting currents. Im sure runoff from all the roadside chemicals and slurry puts the fish off a bit, but they could just as easily be feasting on worms from the flooded fields! I know a nearby sewer works flooding also caused concern but no one really looks into it. I think the resident otter doesn’t help either. Would love someone to tag the fish and see what they do. We’ll never really know...
It’s good to have a challenge instead of a match fishery where loads of carp just throw themselves on to your hook. A bit more wild and realistic.
Glad you enjoyed the vid
