      Literally can’t. The O in OLED is Organic. You can put in every protection possible like Pixel Shift, Auto Dim, heat sinks to dissipate heat, MLA to boost brightness without increasing power, etc but every moment you run current through an OLED pixel, you’re shortening its lifespan. All of those mitigate the problem and extend its life but doesn’t stop burn in from eventually happening. It’s an organic material and use degrades it.
      They’ve gotten really, really good at burn in prevention for TVs and varied content. But PC monitors have to deal with static elements like icons or taskbars

    • @Hanfos
      @Hanfos Місяць тому

      @@anshulshah1703 it will happen anywhere where u have static images and faster when high screen brightness
      its just a matter of time and unbalanced usage
      on desktop its often the game hud or 16:9 ratio when 21:9 monitor from videos
      on smartphones its often the status bar and navigation bar
      on handhelds like steam deck and nintendo switch also the game hud
      on tv also the game hud and if watching the same channel all the time the logo of it
      burn-in is just pixel degradation of pixels which got more used than the others so they aged faster
      so when u have some pixels which always have to glow bright white they ofc will age faster and when u watch non stop 16:9 content on a non 16:9 screen the the borders on the left and right side with degrade much slower than all others cuz they are always turned off
      i know its not oled but had hardcore burn-in on my plasma tv back when i bought destiny 1 ps4 bundle
      played the game non stop for 2 weeks and then i had burn in my ammunition indicator for years in it on bottom left XD

    Why are processor dyes always rectangular when the wafers are circular?

    • @yonko5220
      @yonko5220 Місяць тому

      When making the monocristalls needed for wafers you often spin them during the formation which leads to a cylindrical form. These cylinders are then cut into thin wafer that are round

      @@yonko5220
      This is correct. And cutting round dies out of a round wafer would actually be hugely inefficient if you think about it. Tons of unused space in-between. Not to mention that it would be unnecessary difficult to cut.

    I didnt believe for a second when that headline dropped that OLED would be dethroned. I knew then that apple would bring OLED to their entire lineup before microled ever saw the light of day. Low and behold, the oled transition is well under way and apple just needs to update their macbooks and studio display. Still no microled anywhere to be seen.

    it will just take a lot of time to optimise the technology like any high end stuff. 15 years ago, a 65-77 inch OLED screen for 2k$ was unimaginable. 10 years before that the fact that it is an Oled screen was already the unimaginable.
    But it obviously takes the huge display companies like LG, Samsung and co. to drive the development. Apple as a tech brand has no real expertise in manufacturing the displays themselves, like they have no clue about the processor manufacturing. Apple just does the designs incredible.
    That a small startup can't do it wasn't surprising.
    But as both LG with oled and samsung with QDot have their own marketing technology, it will take a couple of years longer till they give us microLED

  • @SpidermanandJeny
    @SpidermanandJeny Місяць тому

    So is the tech kind of a dud? Should normal ppl check back in 10 years or so? Maybe then the drawbacks will be mostly solved. However, will there be a need at that point? Who knows how good OLED will get.

    Just because Apple dropped it, doesn't mean the tech is dead or "niche". Other display manufacturers like LG and Samsung may still be working on it. OLED still and will probably always have risk of burn-in.

    Micro or Mini LED is not a concept only you duffus! It already exists in Mini LED Samsung televisions that upon release were stated to cost less to manufacture the OLEDs and be better than QLEDs, so naturally the ultimate medium for us consumers if the price of manufacturing was passed on to us consumers. This narrative from @Techquickie does exactly what I hoped Linus Tech Media would not end up doing in the long ran, which is paint a picture that the normies or should I say NPC's will think is word moving on.
