Many years ago a very large, multi-wheeled trailer (96 wheels IIRC) and pulled by a Scania heavy-haulage tractor visited the factory that I worked at, to move a 140 tonne gas-turbine powered, 24MW generator set. A couple of weeks later it was back to move the second unit, but demolished the traffic lights at the end of the road when turning in - the council, ignoring that we sent out more than 50 oversized loads per year and had 500+ people working there, had re-laid out the junction, making it impossible oversized vehicles to get around without hitting the lights!

@@insoft_uk I thought it was the Audi's fault at first, (it usually is) but I watched it a few times.
I could be wrong but it looks to me like the lorry is waiting at the roundabout in the right hand lane, the Audi is in the middle lane.
They enter the roundabout and the lorry moves left in to the middle lane onto the Audi, making it the lorry's fault.
Whenever I've driven lorries I've spent more time looking in the mirrors than looking straight ahead, this driver doesn't seem to check them much. If I was in the Audi though I would have stuck my foot down and got away from the lorry as soon as the lights went green.

@@Ian-ww6mf No... the lorry driver is absolutely obeying the signs and road markings correctly.
The left lane at the lights takes the A34 exit.
The middle lane at the lights, after the A34 exit, becomes the left lane, which is for M3 North. This is the lane the Audi was in.
The right lane at the lights then becomes the middle lane (or right lane) for M3 South.

@@sw8296 You are correct, the lorry was in the right hand lane, the Audi was in the middle lane.
The lorry then moved in to the middle lane that the Audi was in.
By any definition that is not "obeying the signs and road markings correctly".
If the lorry hadn't moved over in to the lane the Audi was occupying they would never have come together.
Of course we change lanes all the time but it has to be done safely, which the lorry driver failed to do.

As a lorry driver myself, these types of accidents are inevitable in these sort of situations and are massively frustrating when people can't work out which lanes to use. However, i'm afraid the lorry driver did himself no favours, as he never bothered to check his mirrors - before starting off or whilst on the move, possibly why the courts went in favour of the car driver.

I assume you mean clip 14. The thing is that the cammer moves into the lane with the Audi in it so that’s why it’s the LGV driver’s fault regardless of who’s in the right lane. I am a class 2 driver and I certainly would be expecting faster traffic coming from my left if I was in the right (hand) lane. I’d also be checking my left mirrors to get myself over to the left side as soon as possible that would include the kerb view mirror. I don’t know why the cammer is in the right lane going into the right side of a three lane roundabout before cutting back into the middle lane but that’s just me and I honestly and obviously don’t know the circumstances or the area it happened. The best thing my LGV instructor told me was to be assertive but generally to let all the other traffic do what it’s doing when possible. The right lane is the last place I’d want to be and that seems the same for this driver, unfortunately he needs to check all the mirrors I’d be 50/50 mirrors and looking ahead. Shame this incident has shaken that driver so much as to quit the industry.

I have known similar situations, the lorry driver probably wasn't held at fault more that he wasn't able to claim from the other driver. One guy in a truck who was hit at a roundabout by a red light runner was asked 'have you ever seen anyone else run that light?' when he said 'yes, a few times' then the judge decided his lack of anticipation contributed to the accident and was therefore not able to claim off the other driver. It's madness, really, but in the same situation be very careful how you answer questions.

Actually watching it again, the red Audi is alongside the lorry at the lights (you can see it in the lorry's wing mirror) and it was the lorry driver who moved from the right hand lane to the middle lane where the Audi was. Car drivers should learn never to sit alongside large vehicles as they do not have great rearward visibility. In this case the red Audi should've accelerated in front of the lorry to get out of it's way.

    • @shaunmaloney9646

Yeah the lorry looked to be in the far right lane at the lights on a 3 lane junction. Then decided to move over to the middle lane and cut off the audi. So clearly the lorry driver fault this one.

The middle lane became the left hand lane on the roundabout after that turn off, and the right lane became the middle lane. The lorry didn't "decide to move over" they followed the lane for their route correctly.
If we all go to court and get asked "have you ever seen an Audi driver doing something stupid before?" and then get penalised for not anticipating that they are likely to do something stupid then they really will own the road like a large number of them already think they do!

Where the car came off the lane changes on the A45 to give you the option to exit the A45 here. At no point is there anything to say the the left exit lane splits off into 2 lanes. If a driver switches lane here from the left it is clearly a case of checking nobody is exiting the A45 in that lane.

The countless times it happened to me, I became wise to it. It's a very poor road layout anyway. Having to get from lane 3 to lane 2 on a roundabout in about 30 yards is ridiculous. Once on the roundabout, it changes to left lane is M3N and middle and right lanes are M3S. Lorry drivers heading to the M3S should be then in the middle lane to allow faster moving vehicles to be in the right lane. The expectation with an overtake is for a safe place to re-enter the lane, not bully your way in.
It can be argued the ford made a massive mistake but you'd typically see some degree of confidence in re-entering the lane assuming the individual can drive, additionally, you'd anticipate some gentleness to the braking, to gradually increase distance rather than getting a bit sharp causing alarm and inconvenience to the one immediately behind and those further behind.
To sum it up, the ford's a massive cock, the dashcammer could've done with a touch more understanding and increasing his following distance due to the fords inability to predict and drive.

The section at 7.29, cannot understand how it was any of the truck drivers fault.
The courts are a laughing stock so perhaps this explains that wrong decision.

The judge dealing with the case at 8:00 minutes clearly is not fit for purpose and needs replacing.

First clip driver was a bit close behind those hay bales, if they HAD fallen, he'd have hit them before he could stop.

#14 - Let's imagine that we want to go on the A272 from where the lorry starts. We'd be in the right hand lane as the lorry was. We enter the roundabout and would go into the middle lane as that is the one marked to go to the A272. Lanes 1 and 2 don't go to the A272 on entry to the roundabout. Lanes 1 and 3 don't go to the A272 on the roundabout. Meaning lane 3 on entry is the same lane as lane 2 on the roundabout at that point. What is so hard to understand? Lane 2 goes to the M3(N) Lane 3 goes to the A272 and M3(S) at the entry. The Audi crossed into the truck's lane as if it was going to the M3(S) but if that was where it was going, why was it in the middle lane which goes to the M3(N)? 7:54
