- How To: Put on a Tail Guard/Tail Bone on a skateboard.
Side note: I only put on two of the sex bolts, because the way i skate i tend to completely, over time wear down the right side of the tail guard, so this way i have an extra set of bolts.
If you are sure of the holes you marked you could just drill and set up the tail guard but i like to recheck as much as i can.
There are also two types of tail guards i have seen...the one that i have here, and the one that is just 3 small holes and has just threaded screws, so note im only using the one shown.
- The Tailbone is a 8" wide fits the old school/reissue decks.
Tools:
(1) Drill
(1) 7/32" drill bit
(1) Screw Driver - Phillips Head
(1) Clamp - Optional
(3) Sex Bolts - should come with online orders
(1) Tail Bone
(1) skateboard
Perfect explanation, sir. I’ve destroyed several of my deck tails attempting to use standard screws instead of sex bolts. It was a nightmare. Should of tried it this way from the start. Many thanks!
I know that powell makes 2 different types of tail guards, the one like this video, and other ones that dont use sex bolts but uses small screws with big threads that are flat on the bottom. (hopefully that made sense) tail guards are getting harder to find too so that kinda sucks. but glad to help you still.
@@samkupper Makes perfect sense. The small screws with big threads are what I have used. It seems only the NOS tail guards come with the sex bolts. I'll have to keep my eye out. Are you still skating?
I love old skool boards that grip job looks awesome! 👌 That's a great sk8 set up.
My good friend bought me a Powell Peralta Totem, and I grabbed a tail bone for it also. Cant wait to put this bad boy together. Indy 159s, Bones Big Balls, and 56mm Welcome Orbs
Cool sma board
good vid bro. I got a new board I am IN LOVE with and don't want to destroy it unnecessarily. I had these back 30 years ago. Just getting back on the board now. #50skater
Grassy ass, dude! Great tutorial. I must admit, when I heard you say to use a 7/32 drill bit, I thought you were on dope, but nope! A 7/32 it was! Many thanks, Sam. My tail guard is on now thanks to you. Well done, man.
I’m glad to help man, no I’m not on dope, would make the day more fun though lol but yeah take care and keep skating
That Natas is Hella sick man ! And that tailbone is an original, you still riding that same setup ?
Back in the late 80's people got jumped for a board that nice. 🔥🌶
This set up was skated years ago, currently got my Ken park vision board. But I’ve had so many skateboard decks and trucks and wheels and such been used.
Very cool. What color wheels did you end up going with? I have the same deck im about to put together.
Joshua Linn I believe I did purple or yellow at the time
Do they come in different sizes? I can only find 8”
Tail guards/skids do come in different sizes. If you look at a site that is mostly freestyle skateboarding, they have tail guards for different sizes. But mostly these old school ones are 8”.
Aren’t they called skid plates? And does in it fit in a popsicle standard skateboard?
Skid plates/tail guard same thing. And theses ones specifically do not work on popsicles decks cuz the old 80s boards their tails are flat, wide, fanned out, you can probably cut a tail guard but cutting may cause the pre-drilled holes to get cut away and become useless.
Can you still drop in on vert ok with a tailbone fitted?
Yeah you can, doesn’t affect me again from dropping in.
is the tail guard metal and can I use it to stop.
its plastic, I have made hand cut metal ones from scrap, but if you get a shinner it hurts the worst, but you do make a metal one, it works well for stopping.
@@samkupper Back in the day, if we wanted to stop, we powerslid....tail was for ollies
Natas would be pissed that people are even thinking putting tailguards (skidplates) on his board
Tommy Orr Jr that’s the beauty of skateboarding, I can do what I want
Dude where did you get this tailguard?? I need the same exact blue color but I can only find black or white ones online😒
todd thomas eBay from 7plyskateshop
That "little bump in there" is known as a countersunk hole in the technical world. Just for future reference. Not making fun just general information.
@@Movieman1965 okay, i never knew that, thanks for that
How wide is the tailbone? Not sure what size to get for my natas reissue
I got an 8” for this board, all my re issue boards with tail guards I got the 8” Powell tailbone. Different brands may vary in the sizes and looks.
Does this reduce your pop?
A little cuz the Angel is now changed from how high the board is verticals when popping, but even with the tail guard on, let alone having rails, copers, lappers all that crap I can still Ollie over a stacked board or two.
i cant find these anywhere man,
Same actually, the buyer I usually got them from on eBay no longer makes or sells them and anyone that does sell them or a variation of them are either sold out, way overpriced, or are too small/big in size.
Are these good for freestyle
Truck stands yes but for primo style tricks not really
what size is that tailbone
It was an 8”
@@samkupper I've got a dressen I want to put one on...I think it's the same size what was the natas dimensions....I was going to go 9 but 8 looks like it might fit
Where can I buy it
I rlly want one
Can you send me a link like where to buy a different one cus u said there was no more of those so send me a link of different one and I will buy
My original eBay seller that I bought these from no longer sells them, so I myself can’t find another affordable seller at the moments. If I find one I’ll post about it but it’s a treasure hunt all over agin.
@@samkupper ok thank you very much
