My first job was in the public library in my hometown in Canada ... I later moved to England to a post at the University library in Cambridge ... books are books, even the latest trash best seller or ones that are so ancient that the pages must be turned wearing protective gloves ...

I have a bachelors degree in Finance, currently trying to get my foot in the door at my local library’s, was wondering if you advice for things i should know prior to being a Library Assistant? Appreciate it!

@@Centroid888 I really recommend looking into volunteering/applying for casual positions at your local public library to edge your way in! A lot of places hire internally so getting any experience you can and getting even something temporary can give you a massive boost. I got my current job because I worked at the university on a contract position and did about four contracts before finally getting something permanent! It all really adds up
@@Meghan.Kirkland Thanks, yeah maybe volunteering is a good option. I've already applied to 2 libraries, seems like the demand for library personnel isn't as high as in other fields.
Unfortunately a huge reason for that is budget cuts. Typically when conservative governments (on any level) are in power the budgets get cut. Libraries are one of the first places to feel budget cuts because it's harder to prove "profit". But stick with it! If it's something you really want it may take a bit but it is very rewarding and you can make some pretty good money (depending on region). I'm planning to do a video on this soon so hopefully it will answer any further questions you have!

It might! I have done high energy jobs though and I enjoy this more haha
Do I need any type of school to be a librarian assistants?
Not for a library assistant, no. It might be beneficial to pursue a library tech certificate/diploma to help get the position as it can be very competitive but for most library assistant positions they may hire with similar work experience

It depends on a lot of things!

@@MiraeXNeonYou basically need a PhD to become an actual librarian. It takes a ton of school. Assistants make above minimum wage, and more if it’s full time
@@Aviva-e5kit takes a masters degree in library science in most states not a PhD.
