- The Kremlin said Estonian PM Kaja Kallas, who has been nominated to lead the EU’s foreign policy, has a history of hostile statements towards Russia. Peskov added that Ursula von der Leyen, who has been nominated for a third term as the EU President, “is not a proponent of normalisation of relations.” Several Russian officials suggested that the policies championed by Kallas will only lead to further escalation. Kalas, selected to speak for Brussels internationally and balance conflicting interests in the EU, has a reputation as an uncompromising hawk on Russia. Kallas’s candidacy must be approved by the newly elected EU Parliament, which will convene for the first time next month - a procedure seen as a formality. Watch the video to find out more.

In terms of demographics, BRICS countries are facing those issues too. Brazil has an ageing population with low birth rates; Russia has severe demographic issues with its low birth rates, losses in the Ukraine war, and the mass exodus during Russia's mobilisation in the Ukraine war - they are even running out of prisoners to use in their war against Ukraine; China has an ageing population because of the one-child policy; and while India and South Africa have younger populations, India is unable to educate them, and South Africa doesn't have the jobs for them.
As far as a "call to arms" goes, in 1939, before war was declared, in the UK we had about 225,000 active soldiers. By June 1940, we had 1.6 million. At its peak strength, around 2.9 million. We can get the numbers together when we need them.
@@gtaraya You might want to look at the largest trading partners of BRICS countries, and consider how trading restrictions would actually impact their Nominal GDP (as well as a lot of other aspects), rather than just ours.
