Riding the first Babylon to Grand Central train. Train

- We get a good side window glimpse of this complete ride as we literally witness the dawn of a new day and a new era in Grand Central service on the Long Island Rail Road
When I visited for the first time and the train went into the tunnel it truly felt like I was in a plane, the tracks are soooo smooth! Amazing to see this beautiful concourse!
I am so impressed! I am noticing so many things about this ride that are competely foreign to my experience. Especially notable in the earliest parts of the trip is the elevated state of the train - you can see everything. Then the experience of passing over so many streets and getting long vistas that seem to stretch on for miles - so amazing. You've heard of 'feng shui"; this is more like "full ahead" where the planners had the rare chance to do whatever they thought best and they immediately went full-on rectilinear with right angles everywhere! This is a revelation! I come from New England where even when they can do it this way, they seem embarassed to do it and instead meander around in a daze.
I noticed that as you approach Babylon, things get a little "less intentional"; maybe a bit chaotic, but still impressive. I LOVE THIS TRIP! Thanks!
Thanks much.
Thank You!
I thought about taking the first train, which left from West Hempstead, however it would’ve left at nearly 1AM and I simply did not want to be up all night and take a regional back home to Massachusetts in time to be at work for my 8AM shift
Retired railfan sounds exactly like me!
Passenger Safety is Our Top Priority 😉😺
An historic ride to Grand Central. Thanks Tim for recording it.😀💚
Thanks for sharing the history.
I am going to GCT I tomorrow. I like the new changes but the only issue is that if they get stuck they're wont be no Amtrak locomotive to bail us out lol.
Thank you friend for this historic ride along this branch.
Next Far Rockaway branch.
I don't know if you take requests, but I'd love to hear you on Amtrak's Keystone service from Philadelphia to Harrisburg. Hearing you talk about the history on that route would be fascinating!
Already made a video that last spring. Ride from Harrisburg to Philadelphia. Part 2 continuation of the ride from Philadelphia to New York.
@@3985uprr thanks
@@3985uprr Have you filmed from Philly to Pittsburgh, specifically through Horseshoe Curve?

They should probably go into the programming and lower the volume of the Grand Central announcement on the M7s
A funny story about the pizzeria visible at 3:12. While I was living in West Babylon about 40 years ago, my parents flew north from Florida to attend a wedding in Manhattan. While there, on April 4, it began to snow, which they were totally unprepared for! That evening I took them to that restaurant, and while I got a parking space on the street right in front, my dad and I had to carry my mom from the car over the snow that rested between the car and the front door!
No golden ticket this time, Tim? lol Nice video. I was sound asleep for that whole trip you took. I've been hearing that a LOT of people are really unhappy with the new LIRR schedule. I'm just glad that I don't have to take the train into Brooklyn anymore. I've been considering possibly taking the train from Merillon Ave to Elmont/UBS Arena since it's only $3.25 each way. A lot better than the $25 I'm paying for parking currently. Maybe next season. They also have completely stopped service to the Belmont station on event days. I think they're still going to run trains for the Belmont Stakes, but that's it.
Thanks for the ridealong
I know you were hoping for an M9 train for the clean windows, but you really cannot beat the sound of an M7 I don't think
True. Give and take.
I still don't understand why the M7's have a new announcement for Grand Central when there is already one on the M7A's on Metro North.
i think the extra emphasis suppose to alert passengers
Nice! I took the LIRR from Grand Central to Forest Hills a few weeks ago. The new tunnel is very nice!
Are you planning to ride the cannonball this summer Tim?
In four years you can ride a Metro North train into Penn Station!
I’ll believe it when I see it. 😂
LIRR needs to do either one of these two. 1. Fix the Grand Central announcement, so that it has the GC announcement like on Metro-North or 2. Re-record the entire announcement sequence with a new male/female so that it sounds complete on the LIRR M7. As another comment said “they did it half fast”, it is really bad.
there not gonna so not important
Metro North: Watch over the gap
LIRR: Step over the gap 🚉
I was hoping for cheerleaders a band free coffee donuts disappointing
sounds like that car had a flat wheel...
I wonder if they can update that Grand Central announcement like Metro North’s announcements
They are in the process.
wait they really puttin the mnrr asi on the lirr??
they also need to update the m9 announcements
why not
There seems to be a flat on the wheels on that M7.
Excellent video, did that car have flat spots?
I remember the Phantom Train - the daily 7:55 out of Babylon that was canceled almost every day.
Another big Hit Big Boss 😁😁😁✌ Fantastic video Brothaa. I was looking at the LIRR train schedule for all of the destinations and indeed the entire train schedule has changed. The train I used to Railfan at Woodside at 6:38pm was the 6:38pm train to Speonk hehe. Long gone is that train sadly. Now it’s an express but now 6:38pm at woodside got changed to a Wantagh train. I personally Love the new schedule and it’s very interesting and I cant wait to get out railfanning again. Just one thing, I hope I get an answer jaja 😆😆 How do you do to memorize all these different train numbers. I go by the number that’s visible on the front of an MU car and on the side of the diesels hehe but the way that you mention the numbers I think it’s totally different. How do you know all these numbers ? Expecting to hear from you soon. 😁😁✌
I get familiar with some numbers but it’s mainly research I do trackside. I like to know what train I am seeing
@@3985uprr Thanks my Brothaa. So it’s well clear to me that the way you memorize and learn these amazing numbers is from experience of valuable research and also track siding. I shall do more research to learn and understand these numbers of trains hehe. Thank You Bro 😁😁🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✌
My 85 year old cousin from Boston (Cambridge) who rides Amtrak about once a month is not looking forward to sharing Penn Station / Moynihan with riders from a Metro North train from the Bronx
Well at the very earliest he’s got four years and these things always get delayed
@@redcoat4348 and the projected cost has gone from less than $1 billion to $3.1 billion. It's interesting how when a trillion dollars of free infrastructure money shows up, the price of everything goes up.
Every time I hear the announcement saying to Grand Central it reminds me of Metro North.
Same announcer so, yeah.
Also I'm happy my tax paying money went well in this investment. Hopefully it'll work as well with Metro North New Haven expansion.
you might think they could have recorded a new announcement, not edited in.. "this is the train to GRAND CENTRAL", duh
Far Rockaway got the old Montauk train number, Montauk got the old Babylon train single number and West Hempstead got the old Huntington PM number (1700’s) and some people on the Oyster Bay branch aren’t to happy with the new schedule but some uses Hicksville, Mineola or Port Washington as their alternate. Hopefully in the future the Oyster Bay branch should be electrified and have the diesel on the Port Jeff, Greenport and Speonk/Montauk
Gold Coast crowd did not want electrification last time it was proposed
@@smacwhinnie if they really want more train service then they should stop whining about it. There’s so many alternatives they can use.
In my honest opinion, the new Grand Central announcement is decent, but I prefer the one on Metro-North.
so that means the f train is directly above
man why did van announce grand central like tht they should've used the one from metro north
Not into that new Grand Central announcement on the M7s. I don't see why they couldn't use the same one from the Metro North. It makes it seem like they did it half fast.
I’m with you on this. If I ever want to ride in and out of Grand Central on the LIRR, I’ll just have to wait for an M9 since it sounds more complete than the M7s.
Yeah. They did the same thing with Elmont station and it's just annoying. Doesn't make sense at all.
I think LIRR finally changed it to the original Van Ritshie Grand Central announcement. Look up a video and you'll find it.
I don’t see why M3’s can’t go into Grand Central Madison
Not strong enough for grade plus electronic incompatibility
is that the same reason why the old trains cant run on the queens blvd e f and r lines
@@vyork1990 Correct. Old train cars aren't compatible with the CBTC.
