A surviving animation from the chainsaw that seems to occurs when the framerate is far from what the game initially intended, I deciced to take a look to understand how it works in the PS2 version and if it was repeatable. Unfortunaly not without hacks, here's how it works:
The game initializes a first timer to 0 (which is the progression of Leon's current frame animation), which increases by 1.0 per frame, if it reaches 119 or more it starts the surviving animation
At the same time it sets a second timer at 41, which decreases by 1 each frame, if it reaches 0 it starts the death animation. As the framerate on PS2 is fixed, everything works correctly and this was made possible by removing the second timer
Also, if you aim at the end of the animation, Leon has a shift to the left - Ігри

I saw a video which said that this can happen fairly rarely and had something to do with the number of FPS.

This was part of game feature that locked but if u push fps above 90 this will happen
It can make sense that it appears from 90 fps, the 1st timer of 119 frames increased by 3 each frame takes priority over that of 41

also i just notice that the Ganados music from the PS2 version sounds different from other platforms :0
Ps2 have hardware limitation that even the audio is was compressed so yeah that why is so diffrent from the other platforms
No, the ganado music used in the ps2 is the same from all versions except resident evil 4 mobile and resident evil 4 remake deluxe ost because they use the CD soundtrack version that it's just an loop instead of the in game version @@helios536

That animation is from the beta, and there is a official art of that.

It was supposed to be cut, but the way they programmed it, it replayed on some versions with a variable framerate from the original (30 fps)
If the Dr. Salvador does the slower attack, it's impossible to avoid, right?
Because the camera changes and Leon don't hold the chainsaw.
I wish you could test this, or tell me if it is really impossible.
This also happens extremely frequently on the Quest/VR version of RE4, since the framerate for that version is like ~72 FPS, and therefore messes with the logic even more.
I've never played this version, but I read that it happens more on easier difficulty so it was possibly added as features

This is really interesting because the key to survive from the chainsaw is the framerates, right? Wow this is magic~ or a secret which no one knows that. But yeah, if you are playing on PS2 emulator, you can set the fps limits and unlock the unlimited fps. Y'all know, the power of the framerates hack. But I don't know if it works on the real PS2 if y'all have the real PS2 non emulated, but it's probably impossible with the real PS2. So the framerates is the only one who save your life with the chainsaw. But with very high framerates, we can always survive with the chainsaw?
Edit: I don't know if it can work on PS2 emulator on Android, but be sure to have a recent phone to run with the emulators well
Even with unlimited fps using an emulator, technically the game still runs at 30 fps

La primera es cuando te pilla y la camara cambia a la aeria y Leon sus brazos estan abajo
La segunda es cuando la camara la tienes en el hombro y el personaje intenta hagarrar la motocierra como si lo estubieran estrangulando y luego pasa a caer la cabeza como si fuece decapitado por una Hoz

So wait it wasn't originally to be instant death or just because of the framerate does it have that outcome?
I think this animation was originally going to be a QTE, but they finally decided it was an instant death and instead of completely redoing the animation, they just added a death from a moment based on a timer, but it was coded in a way to work without problem in 30 fps without thinking about future versions which allow a variable framerate

...could you realistically recreate this using the bolt rifle as that is the only gun in hd that still has a 30 fps reload animation?

PS2? Más bien se parece a la versión de Gamecube,ya que ahí hay glitches donde Leon no es decapitado y censuran la escena,yo tengo el de PS2 y las decapitaciones son sin censura.

proof? u sure this is ps2 or u lied and this is played in emulator with mods, I'm sure with an actual ps2 this would never happen as the fps is locked.
There are explanations in the description, I did it with hacks and on emulator, I never hid it, it's even explained
