This medley is just pure disco heaven. I was 18 when this came out in '78. I'd just got myself a new job at 'Our Price Records' in their shop on the Edgware Road in London. I'd left a job in Nat West Bank to go work in a record shop cos it was much more fun. Disco was exploding around me but my Mother went mad that I'd given up a well paid 'career ahead of me' job in the bank. She made me promise never to let my Grandmother know that I had left the bank so until the day she died she thought I did. I hated working in the Bank. When I got to London there was a record shop on every corner of the West End & the people in those shops were having fun & they didn't have to wear suits. This album reminds me of that time because I was going out at night to London's disco's 3 times a week then working in the shop during the day when I'd sell all those records while playing even more disco music at the same time. Take that to the bank! I had to follow my heart to where I found the most joy & I had the time of my life, meeting beautiful people all into music & having a really good time. So I soaked up those disco years like a sponge & that 'joy of life' spirit that disco gave still lies within me now. Grace has carried on making wonderful music & I still go out dancing even though I'm 62 now. She can still put on one hell of a show at 73 & so do I!!
She had a wonderful unique voice and style and as bad as you might compare it to others she gave us wonderful unforgettable albums and music and a voice that can make LaVie En Rose a hit was fabulous and good enough for me and i know great music
Disco brought all the great things to music, like 3 song medleys. With the skills of Tom Moulton, this is one of the all-time best medleys that most people don't know about. Absolute perfection, Grace singing her heart out, Moulton remixing it all but it works because it's fantastic music and it just makes every part of your body move and vibrate to these gems. This is CLASSIC DISCO AT IT'S BEST!!! Enjoy, todays junk music couldn't be a B side to these masterpieces!!!!
This is the best of the 70's disco music, it'll never compare to the garbage that's out there today. So all those new artists out there take a sample out of what real music sound like.
Bobby Dapkus ABSOLUTELY!! I had the privilege to see GRACE live in Boston, like 79 or 80 and she autographed my cut off jean jacket in black marker! True story. What a show, what a night !! Viva GRACE !
Oh dear. Fell head over heels for her at age 16 the instant she threw off the ball gown coming down the stairs on American bandstand! There was no one in Chicago like her. Never for a minute dreamt I'd ever meet her later on in life, or that she'd invite me to her restaurant in Soho. I bought this record back then and hadn't listened it since. Love the disco theme in this one. Really changes style in Night Clubbing, the next album I think, on the pulse of rap right right on time. True original.
Still have the first five albums that she recorded.....this one 48 years ago......and still looking FABULOUS Philly queen The Steps..... Allegro.....JP's....PBL club.....the 13th club....the back stage......and so on and so on
Still a sensational sizzling mix ! I saw GRACE in Boston in like 79 -80, and after the show she signed my cut off jean jacket! What a night; I’ll never forget it !!
Fantastic memory of - 1978 - DCA Club in Philadelphia, nothing better to make us feel like we were on top of the world - a time like no other, and actually hard to evaluate in the tech-obsessed world of today. But we were a part of the world, rather than watching it go by on your I-phone or I-pad. Or posting it on Facebook and pretending you have an interesting life.
well, lol...The DCA Club...YES! Danced there and Vogue'd there...usually Hung-out at the Back bar....then would go off to the 2nd Story or the 247 for some Leather 'n MEN.......
Brought back some great memories, like when I still had vinyl record albums, and could get by on one-hour of sleep, and dance all night long, after watching Crystal smash a crystal vase on Alexis' head, and still get a 1200 on my PSATs. Wow! Thank you!
When the original DYNASTY was soaring in the ratings, I was in high school and had my head so far up my ass that I didn't know left from right. I hated my high school with a passion. Back then, however, TV, with only 3 major networks, was terrific (unlike the junk today with a gazillion channels).
Wow, I have this whole album ( vinyl ) and I still yammering in 2023 like every Grace Jones album the best love ❤️ Grace FOREVER 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏thanks for posting this MASTERPIECE 🙏☮️👍❤️🇺🇸
Had the good luck to be staying at the same guest house in Key West. Grace was the Fantasy Follies Grand Marshall. The tradition is the first night the house goes out together. Grace came too and we partied all night at the Coconut Grove. What a memory!!!!
Grace always PACKED the NY Underground clubs! I was highly pissed off when I tried to see her at the Paradise Garage but my 42nd st. fake ID was a no go. Heard it was the party! I told my older friends to go ahead and enjoy themselves, they did get in.
I know what u mean!!! Been in that situation. Hope the person that denied yr entrance, has a very lonnnnnnnnnggggg wait at an emergency rm. at some hospital. But dismiss that incident, since G.J. has no voice, and her popularity was based on the great orch. arrangement and superb finishing touch by our hero T.Moulton. I am sure that that particular was great, but that was due to the euphoria of the crowd!!!
I first heard Do Or Die on "Island Life" that I got from the local library about 20 years ago on LP. That was long before the age of mp3, youtube, etc. It was my favorite track on that compilation album and, though I could find copies of Portfolio, Night Clubbing, Warm Leatherette, and Living My Life at the time, it was nearly impossible to find a copy of Fame or Muse. I pored the used record stores for Grace Jones LPs. I found a copy of Muse (and LOVED it), but didn't find Fame until years later when ebay came out. To find this album was to come into a new appreciation of the "disco years" of Grace Jones. It has eclipsed all her other albums in my eyes. Not to say that any of her others are sub-par, but to me this is the pinnacle of this era. I got this on a reissued CD from Japan a couple of years ago and it's been on every audio device I've had since.
***** yes I remember the sat nite "gay" midnite to 6am club @ 2001 here in Pittsburgh,PA. my youner sister (def straight) and her straight girlfriends would come & dance, drink cocktails (was BYOB) all nite long, and they were still in high school,LOL.....the days of my youth ( I was 22y/o I'm 58 now.)
I like to think....and I feel it strong in my case...that we are all of ourselves at all ages. I can call up feelings from being 5 or 11 or 19 or 25...they're all 'me'. So that twenty-two year old is still in there if you allow it to be. :)
Gil...don't know you Honey-Boy...but sending love and aloha from Hawaii! From another Grace devotee and treasuring our memories always...PRIDE!!! And this goes out to all the folks that danced and experienced the tunes and magic of this time!
imagine Disco without Grace nobody wanted to pick her up because they didnt feel she had a good enough voice Grace you are among the best you brought fashion and fun to all you did and what great music nobody does la vie en rose better ever past or since ..we hoped to see you at 54 what wonderful songs sorry that's the trouble fame pull up to my bumper You are one of a kind what fun and joy you still bring to us all
She doesn't have the greatest voice, but when you hear it you know who you're listening to. In a sea full of singers that all sound the same different is better.
She never had a voice!!! T.Moulton said in an interview he had many issues with her voice and ego. And you dont hv to be a genious to see right through her over inflated ego!!!

thanks to gloria gaynor the first extended disco mix and first on the disco chart and started the trend of 3 extended disco singles and hits on one side of an album and thankfully grace jones was right there ti with thats the trouble and then do or die pride and fame her one and only before irene cara the incomparable grace jones
I got that because I am worth it and I will always be worth it thank you so much that's the best advice I had heard in a long time the because I'm worth it
ONE OF THE BEST FULL SIDE SUITES EVER MADE, I AM JUST WONDERING WHY ALMOST 4 MINUTES IS SHAVED OFF!! The LP track listing clocks in at almost 19 minutes. The full side isn't available anywhere on UA-cam and it's kinda frustrating because it takes away from the sheer brilliance of it.
Oh Louis you poor thIng even all these years you dont get it When Disco reigned there was great dance music it was about the dance and a free time it was dancing for some music for some drinks and drugs sex and fun and for many there was everything including sex ually motivated music and great music but the dance was king and the songs were queens great singers not only queens of disco but great singers who cant be denies then there was Grace a model and a player at 54 a disco queen in the vein of bianca jagger guess u dont remember her on a horse in studio or liza or jerry hall all divas Tom Moulton discovered her and trained her but thought she sounded like bela lugost Dracula in case u dont knw but from her first great album wth thats the trouble and sorry she was absolutely fabulous GREAT MUSIC to FAME and Pride the whole side just amazing ok and last but not least ONLY ONE WOMAN CAN TAKE THIS SONG AND MAKE IT AN UNFORGETTABLE GREAT\EST DANCE DISCO VERSION WAS MISS GRACE JONES DOIING EDITH PIAFS LA VIE EN ROSETRS MAGNIFIQUE EVEN EDITH WOULD HAVE LOVED IT!!!!! BUT IF YOU STILL DONT GET IT TRE FANE AND PRIDE TIME TO PULL UP TP MY BUMPER LOIS AND CLEAN THOSE EARS AND REVEL IN THE FABULOUS UNIQUE VOICE OF GRACE JONES THAT WORKED NO MATTER WHAT
...this LP, was like a Love Letter to GAY MEN!! ....EVERY track was played in the Discos, and she was EVERYWHERE!! ....EV-ERY-WHERE!! ....I was a ripe 13-14 years Old, and I could 'sense' this Album was 'saying' something, to this newbie Gay Boy, when my Mom bought it at Titus Oaks Spring 1978, after hearing it at Studio 54....I could NOT stop 'sneak' playing it!! ...Grace INDEFINITELY changed the 'Model' of The Disco Diva, with this Gay-friendly OPUS!!
That's actually grown up people's nightlife dance music vs mainstream or even disco to me and it should have been marketed that way years ago. Its probably corny for any young person today though.
This album has the BEST artwork/ photography, but it's my least favorite to listen to. i think "Portfolio" is her best disco album. Second would be "Muse".
Tim Mullens First of all, to NOT KNOW who she is and was shows how ignorant and “not with it “ you are. She was a trend setter, style maker and fabulous performer. Hey, I’m done with you. Have a boring life.
This medley is just pure disco heaven. I was 18 when this came out in '78. I'd just got myself a new job at 'Our Price Records' in their shop on the Edgware Road in London. The brilliant Ms Jones; still so underrated by the music industry after over 40 years of producing magic for the masses.

there are still great bands with actually awesome lyrics and catchy tunes, but believe me, though, they're pretty well hidden gems

Good comment. Listen to those strings by Don Renaldo on Fame. He used a double violin section. Philly Sound forever !
Absolutely!
The third song is disco gold. Overall, an excellent blend.
Her music brings back so many wonderful memories …❤️

Do or Die
Grace Jones
I've been called an operator
I can sell an Eskimo snow
Baby, you're a calculator
But all you ever tell me is no
You make me run, run, run, say you're having none
You make me run, run, run, chase me with a gun
I'll never give up
I got to do or die, I'm reaching for the sky
I'd like to make you mine, you know I will in time
[Incomprehensible] got to do or die
No matter how you try, you'll never change my mind
I got to do or die
Taurus's are more determined
Nothing's gonna stand in their way
Loving you was my ambition
I was born the nineteenth of May
You make me run, run, run, you say you're having none
You make me run, run, run, chase me with a gun
I'll never give up
I got to do or die, I'm reaching for the sky
I'd like to make you mine, you know I will in time
[Incomprehensible] got to do or die
No matter how you try, you'll never change my mind
I got to do or die
I've been called an operator
I can sell an Eskimo snow

Pride
Grace Jones
Pride, a lot of good it does alone at night,
Pride, it does'nt matter now whose wrong or right,
I, I hold my head up high for all to see,
I'm, I'm not fooling anyone but me.
What good does it do to hide,
The hurting that I'm feeling?
Since your no longer sleeping by my side,
It may be too late to show,
But just in case your wondering, I need you so!
Pride, I'd like to have my way -? ,
Pride, ? one to hold,
So, I'm asking you in all humility,
Would, would you please come back to me?
What good does it do to hide,
The hurting that I'm feeling?
Since your no longer sleeping by my side,
It may be too late to show,
But just in case your wondering, I need you so!
Pride, a lot of good it does alone at night,

"FAME"-GRACE JONES
Fame, like to make me a name, nothing less than the best for me
Fame, trading love for a name, and there's no one to blame but me
You were the one [who can never to] love me
I, ? take your place
You were the one that I needed
But stars don't need love, their so far above
Just screaming ?
Where are you?
Can't you hear me singing for you baby?
Where are you?
Come on back, I need you, won't you save me?
Fame, burning bright as a flame, but it drove you away from me
Fame, whats the use of this game, if I can't have you back with me
Making the big time, making the money, somehow it don't seem to take the place of
Never alone but I'm lonely, I search through the crowd and I never see your face
Where are you?
Can't you hear me singing for you baby?
Where are you?
Come on back, I need you, won't you save me?
Where are you?
Can't you hear me singing for you baby?
Where are you?
Come on back, I need you, won't you save me?
Fame, gonna drive me insane, like it drove you away from me
Fame, so alone with my name, even that don't belong to me
Running away won't help me forget you
I ? to find you and end this race so..,
Life on the road is so lonely
? one night stands that never take your place
Where are you?
Can't you hear me singing for you baby?
Where are you?
Come on back, I need you, won't you save me?
Fame, whats the use of this game if I can't have you back with me?
Fame, so alone with my name, even that don't belong to me
Fame, tried to make me a name, and there's no one to blame but me
Fame, gonna drive me insane, like it drove you away from me
Fame, tried to make me a name, I've got no one to blame but me
Songwriters: Jack Robinson, Gil Slavin

thanks to gloria gaynor the first extended disco mix and first on the disco chart and started the trend of 3 extended disco singles and hits on one side of an album and thankfully grace jones was right there ti with thats the trouble and then do or die pride and fame her one and only before irene cara the incomparable grace jones
What Gloria Gaynor LP has 3 songs in a row without a break ?
You make G.J. sound like an artist. The real talent
was in the orchestration,
arrangements and excellent mix by T.Moulton!!

Sólo la salud de los viejos tiempos
I got that because I am worth it and I will always be worth it thank you so much that's the best advice I had heard in a long time the because I'm worth it
ONE OF THE BEST FULL SIDE SUITES EVER MADE, I AM JUST WONDERING WHY ALMOST 4 MINUTES IS SHAVED OFF!! The LP track listing clocks in at almost 19 minutes. The full side isn't available anywhere on UA-cam and it's kinda frustrating because it takes away from the sheer brilliance of it.
It was edited to fit the upload. The limit for a song upload is 15 minutes. It is mentioned in the songs' description.
@@suavehinrg I didn't see that, thank you so much!

Its probably corny for any young person today though.
who s here listening this pearl?
Love it, and she gives out her date of birth here! Did anyone hear it.
there is no radio station that interrupts a song with ads except for You Tube
Diosa de ebano
De plastico!!
Hello! Could you post the rest of this record please?
This album has the BEST artwork/ photography, but it's my least favorite to listen to. i think "Portfolio" is her best disco album. Second would be "Muse".
Why you shortend the medley please upload full lenght versions!!!!
fwnfaa I just had to edit this: reason for the shorter edit: I am only allowed to post videos up to 15 minutes. Enjoy.
the ads are killing me
The ads on you tube are torrutours
grace is god should have been bigger than she was sorry for her
She will agree with you, and actually mean it !!!
my first thought-who Grace Jones?.. now I remember why I forgot her
Tim Mullens First of all, to NOT KNOW who she is and was shows how ignorant and “not with it “ you are. She was a trend setter, style maker and fabulous performer. Hey, I’m done with you. Have a boring life.
what an ignorant thing to write.
She was to avant guard for the mainstream... lightyears ahead
This cover was really beautiful. I loved this record as well.
