Tempos dourados , gente bonita , super bem vestidas , boates lindas , musicas espetaculares .
This long version of "That's the Trouble" was seldom heard because it was only available on a rare, 12" single (with "Sorry" on the flip side). The "Portfolio" album had shorter versions of those two songs, and without the instrumental breaks, were too short and difficult for vinyl DJs to mix. DJs who had access to 12" singles like this created a sound you couldn't hear anyplace else!
You know, that was among the Best Parts of being a disco regular back then - the fact that you heard (and danced to) parts of songs that you DIDN't hear, and couldn't find, anywhere else. It was part of the magic of the whole club scene then.
As mulheres todas produzidas, lindas!! Existia gentileza,educação,finesse...respeito! Realmente,só quem teve o privilégio de viver esta época pode dizer como foi bom.Quanta saudade!!!
I still have the promo of this (and all her other LPs/12"s.) I had the pleasure of meeting her when she preformed at one of our clubs in 1987 when I lived in Houston. This used to pack my dance floor every time!!
When this song first came it, it kinda just EXPLODED. I mean it was EVERYWHERE, well, on every dance floor, that is, and back then, well, you guys today can't IMAGINE how many dance floors there were. Disco was taking over, here in Philly, there was a hot spot to EVERY night of the week, and weekends, well the options were more than you could count. And most of them were FABULOUS - but with songs like this, they almost couldn't help it. They were the Glory Days if you loved to dance....Sigh.
Me too, grew up in Philly during the 70's in college. The clubs were great then, the music, the sound of Philly, everything. We were so lucky to live there at that time.
High disco Hi-Hat rhythms and back beats. Lush high production orchestrations. This transports you back to an indelible decade that I was lucky to experience, on the dance floor and off. Grace Jones is closely identified with the gay community and was huge in the clubs. The 70's were a great decade to come of age.
GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "This was always Grace Jones' opening number when she performed in discos in the late 70's. She would make her entrance riding a motorcycle as she sang this song."
cada vez que ouço sinto mais e mais saudades dê tudo que vivi nessa época Linda , encantadora , feliz ......que falta faz , pessoas , roupas , modo de ver o mundo . Tamatete , seu jingle . New York City , Mikunus , Prive. Wo Doo. daria tudo para voltar por 1 mês em 1977...... Como Eu queria.
Some white old fool in the music industry told her she could not sing and then he walked out on Grace but, Grace walked in ever since ! She is absolutely mesmerizing and a one unique one woman show !
This song should really be labeled "Vincent Montana and the Salsoul Orchestra - featuring Grace Jones". The incredibly beautiful instrumental section beginning at time: 2:40 is a fabulous example of the "Big Band - High Disco" style, from which so much else evolved. The "Portfolio" album made Grace Jones a star, but Vincent Montana's artistic and technical brilliance made the "sound" that people fell in love with, and still love to dance to today!
Sounds like you take the really good mid to late seventies disco seriously, as do I (of course it wasn't all good). Such innovation, such creativity, and not contrived - there was just something in the air at the time - I honestly don't think there's been any cultural phenomenon since that has enabled such joy, such feeling that you were on top of the world. Incredible, too, how that decade is even today laughed at for its bad taste (there's always bad taste - look at today) though at its best it was so sophisticated that - many people then and now just didn't get it.
@@radamik Another thumbs up to you here. I often try to explain on my YT comments, that the whole 70s disco thing was a Time and Place like no other, except maybe the Roaring Twenties...an unbridled, hedonistic JOY dancing and experiencing the music out in clubs, the whole scene ON FIRE...sadly, both ended ignominiously, one by the Depression, the other by AIDS. Though I sometimes say "you had to be there to know what I am talking about", hey the 20's were WAAAAY before my time, but I detect the same electricity in that era, so maybe people CAN get how feel for how much fun we had back then...1127 Walnut St Forever.

GREG MAY of Orlando, FL says: "This was actually her first release when she came back to New York from Paris. It was released on the BEAM JUNCTION label. When Grace began making her disco appearances, this was always the opening number in which she rode a motorcycle onstage. She stole that idea from Josephine Baker."
When i heard this i fell in love with Grace Jones then to see her odd quirky beauty and voice to match La Vie en Rose like no other but her triple hit, ala Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer, of Do or Die Pride and Fame just incredible
Wednesday night in Oct. '76 at Philly's DCA Club, crowded, not quite like a Saturday, but incredible compared to today. And the imagery I remember: jeans tucked into Frye boots, short hair, olive green jacket from Goldberg's Army/Navy (polyester Travolta clothes? never!). And songs like Sun Sun Sun, this song, others I can't name (was really bad at knowing names of songs and who they were by - wish I did know, cause now I'm trying to find the good ones on UA-cam....)

Her background voice spoils the fabulous orch. Which is the main attraction Of this groove. Thanks to the orch. And arrangement G.Jones got noticed, since she lacks vocal projection. Heard she was "full of herself".
To Lukehanies This tune was the bomb played all over every club love this one I was young back then early 20s 22 years old when this came out when I think of Grace I think young and think of Paris all the time she was something one of a kind no one like her. love her style I used to go out with three women and they would take me to gay clubs and we would party on the floor it was wild back then take care the good old days yes, TJ,

I had the 12 inch single! And her other hit "I Need A Man" on a 12 inch single also. Loved to boogie to these wonderful Grace Jones recordings!

Very envious because I grew up in Las Vegas and was still in Grade School at the time. Las Vegas could not have been as awesome as Philly anyway...
I envy u with all my soul
