Went to this concert when it came to the L.A. Coliseum. The most amazing concert I've ever been to. Sat up in the nosebleed section, but these musicians were so amazing it just didn't matter where we were sitting. From those high seats we could see the skyline of downtown Los Angeles. An absolutely amazing night I will never forget. And now we see the beautiful Tracy Chapman at the.2024 Grammys doing such a beautiful job so many years later.
About 12 years ago I found a bootleg audio of this awesome song recorded at a concert in the UK. It’s the one where the amazing Tracy Chapman has a much bigger role, and she absolutely nails her verses. But in the foreground you can hear one guy in the audience asking “Who’s that?”, then mocking her when she sings the la la verse. Then she comes back on and delivered the most haunting rendition of: “As we listened one last time an' we watched with one last look Spellbound an' swallowed 'til the tolling ended” I knew who Tracy Chapman was because I met her backstage after her first gig in a tiny theatre in London, as a support for John Martyn in 1987. I asked her if she had any more gig planned. No, she was flying back to the USA that night. Any plans for an album? No, she was just happy to be playing gigs. The rest of course is history now. But after seeing brief piece about her on 01 For London, I headed into Town to catch her one and only performance. I knew she was special. Tiny and so beautifully modest. I feel privileged to have met her so briefly. And having met Elton John, Pete Townsend, Geldoff and many others, Tracy is the one I remember with the most affection. Still looking for the video of that UK gig with Bruce. Peace
They all are all time peace loving heroes as each one of the audience was, is and ever will be! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful moment. Imagine everyone wants war to be over!

The rest of course is history now. But after seeing brief piece about her on the old TV programme 01 For London, I headed into Town to catch her one and only performance. I knew she was special. I was at this show. It was a perfect night in Philly. I think this was the final song of the show. So many great performances that night but a few songs that I remember the most from that night was Peter Gabriel and Youssou N'Dour's "In Your Eyes", "Biko"; Bruce and Sting doing "Every Breath You Take" and Bruce's "Jungleland"
I have awesome memories of seeing Bruce & these amazing artists perform Chimes of Freedom and many other HITS at the Amnesty International concert in Montreal in the mid 80s. Amazing, awesome & never to be forgotten.
Bellissima versione di chines of Freedom con Bruce ! Sting Tracy Chapman Peter Gabriel Youssou nd! Fantastici mitici indimenticabili! 🤗🤗🤗😍😍😍😘😘🤗🤗🤗😘😘😘😍😍💞💞🌞bellissima canzone! 🤹😇⭐👏💫💟💞
My heart is overwhelmed with the Epic Beauty of the melodic messengers of cascading light transcending from the heavens. How can one begin to express the depths of appreciation for this song?
I saw the show in Montreal too. I was so far back ...but the spirit shined through. Props to Dylan and amazing song and props to Bruce for he didn't need the teleprompter to read his lines.
Saw these guys at Wembley in Sept 88. They must look at the world now and despair. C'mon fellas, get out there again, spread the message! Fuck knows we need you again.
we got to remember this everyday -with theses beautiful voices ringing out- don't forget why they sang these meaningful words- and they are all good people and mean it.. so inspirational!!
''Striking for the gentle, striking for the kind Striking for the guardians and protectors of the mind And the poets and the dreamers far behind his rightful time, We gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing'' Somewhere I heard Dylan just sat down & wrote this entire song in about the time it takes to read it.. .. .. I NEVER BELIEVE THAT FOR EVEN SINGLE SECOND .. .. .. ( but on a good day - i do )
My Heart is still overwhelmed with the melodic beauty of this song and the poetic message of lyrical freedom. "Glory Days" Is it not Great To Be Free? Love is not a Prison. Love is Two Hearts joining to make beautiful Chimes
This is Amazing!! Great song done by some of the greatest artists! Thanks for posting! This is the kind of music we need in the world today.. the only one missing is Bono.
Beautiful voices breaking the sound waves across the USA. 🇺🇸. Coming together ❤ for.a cause it cost a lot too take care. ❤ of the world. But love and care go along way but money go a lot.forther.because there's a price tag on everything food .water. Housing .body wear.and health care. ❤. Freedom should have no price you or free when you come from your mother's body.
I signed a lot of petitions to free people that day, including Nelson Mandela. What an incredible concert this was! 🌎✌
Nothing short of amazing...just spectacular moment in time preserved forever.THIS is everything that I loved about the eighties..
Tracy Chapmans voice is excellent for this song.

Youssou N'Dour... WHAT A VOICE!

I bet I was sitting just a few rows from you that night. Maybe 100 people in the stadium had worse seats than we did. Still, a spectacular night.
A incredible performance, the vocals, the piano, everything.
Has there ever been a more relevant song for the times we are living in?
Just another brilliant Bob Dylan song
This song has never been more poignant than today……absolute timeless classic!
So true. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
See my comment above.

Prophetic words written by a man who has a special mind and heart.

I get goosebumps every time I hear this song in this excellent version. I'm glad I had the chance to see it live in 1988 in Athens.

I was there. Being Bob's fan for lifetime and in love with Bruce ,that particular song was the utlimate gift
Bruce looking back at the 3:44 mark with a huge grin is him acknowledging Roy Bittan as one of the best pianists of all time.

Actually, it's Bob Dylan's song. It's possible the Byrds recorded before Bob, but it's originally Bob's song.
