I'm only 5 minutes in, but I have to say I love the presentation. Normally people show Zwift full screen and people in little boxes. This is a breath of fresh air. When I start my UA-cam career, I'm totally stealing this! :D
What a top fella Andy is. Comes across as really down to earth and someone you could sit and have a pint with and leave feeling better about life. The mention of Remenham Hill brought back horrible memories of me doing my PB effort on it...the Strava segment just goes on forever once you get to the top of the hill 🤮
Max this is great - I haven’t watched it all yet but it’s a cool concept and always interesting how and why people get in to cycling and what it means to them.
A first time for me watching your channel The Watt Life. I was looking for Wattbike paired with Zwift, but anyway I was glad to hear and see what you guys had to offer...great work and well done to both of you. I'm fairly new to cycling 2-3 years and only done around 10-15 Zwift rides on a Wattbike Atom v1, bought second hand but like new, less than 24 hours of riding. Your video/film on this Alpe du Zwift has given me the hope to actually give it ago...Looks a killer. Good stuf and you both came across as genuine nice guys giving us very amutures some hope :). I think I have seen the name Andy Broadhurst we I've been zwithing lately... Keep it up and I will check out your videos. Thanks, Sean Martin.
Thanks so much Sean and all the best with the Zwift journey. I absolutely love it and its been so great for my training and riding in general. Keeps me motivated through the winter and i tend to stick with it in the Spring. Once you get.into joining events and rides then its a lot of fun
Great ride both of you and entertaining info and banter as always Max . How people can troll when they are getting quality content for free on a sport we all love beats me 👏👏
Great video, I enjoyed that while toiling up the Alpe. I do recall that Zwift made algorithm changes for rubber-band mode to stop unrealistic records being set for fast flat routes and for slow steep routes. Basically it artificially slows you down below the speed of a solo rider at the same power. You might want to check whether this approach is giving you the speed boost that you expect.
I think someone mentioned this- but I’ve done it tethered a few times, the first we did 48 and then this time 53, so I do think that it’s not quite fully pulling the second person up but it’s definitely quicker for the effort… I think for two people to do it tethered they would both have to hold 5.2w /kg for their pulls 🤯🥵
Great, entertaining video and a great consept, bringing in guests for a on the bike chat while zwifting. I've had a lot of the same experiences coming into the bike scene here in Oslo, Norway. Am I to old, to fat, to slow not having the right bike or kit etc.? Fearing what I expected to be kind of an eliteist group. Looking forward to seeing you with your next guest!
Really good episode gents…. Very interesting to listen to both your stories, with a great concept to tell them. Well done to you both…. Very relatable guys 👌🏻
Would love to hear more about how noobs can get started in racing - what's required to take part in a race, training for a race, etc. I've been road cycling for 10 years but have only ever done a few races on Zwift.. the idea of real racing is pretty daunting.
@@thewattlifeHey Max, just a heads-up: Zwift doesn't just look at the fastest rider in your group, it has a formula to calculate speed which incorporates every rider's speed. From zwift insider: "But the results above show that Keep Together mode still has plenty of room for improvement. Specifically, banded Club rides are moving too slowly, and speeds aren’t fluctuating realistically"
Sub 40 !? Not likely to happen in my case. To old and heavy. My PR is 53 minutes and I would be over the moon if I managed to get under 50 minutes in 2025.
@@joshvillenFor a moment I thought…blimey this guy has a massive ego getting upset about people cheering him on. Then I realised you meant fans as in things that move air around. I was having a dumb moment sorry.😂
Was an absolute pleasure, thank you for having me!
Great seeing you on the channel 🎉

He’s a great dude. I still love Remenham hill, every time I do it though it’s either super easy or super hard

Thank you, I thought it would be a quick one but took longer than expected to pull together lol
Have been watching both of your channels. Keep up the hard work! Love the content 👌.
another great video, max you always put in the effort to post quality stuff
Thank you, appreciate the support loads 🙏🏻

Love the idea of this format, I felt the pain 😂 you guys really help keep me motivated!
Winter season is hitting hard at the moment
Break 40 is such a great concept & format. I look forward to watching future episodes.
Thanks man, appreciate the support and kind comment
We all love Andy ❤
Another good watch. At end of day people are not forced to watch anything ! Keep up the good content 😁

Thanks man, more so than anything I’m looking forward to Spring to get some sunshine on my face
A LOOOOOT of value here! Love the format man can’t wait for more of these 🙌
Cheers man- we need to link for another ride soon

Really interesting format! Andy definitely pushed it in that first 3 minutes haha!😂 good effort 👏
Dunno what you’re on about 😅😅
lol those first 3 mins were mine, which is why Andy could talk and was on screen 🥵🤭🤭

Great format and way to build community!
Thank you for the support. 👍🏻
This was like a really intense podcast, enjoyed it 🫡 would love to see you suffer with Dan Jones up the Alpe next 👊
Who would you like to see try and Break 40 with me?! Tag them in the comments...
To do sub 40 You need real weapon. I suggest Ed Lav :)
Get hold of Andrew Feather 😊
Cycling Tattooist would make a great riding companion for this. Love this concept Max. Great idea.
Ed Laverack
Mark Lewis or Ryan Condon, or both
PR 38mins 44secs, 121 efforts so far. Good luck guys!
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 insane watts. I think I’ll be lucky if I can get near 45 by the end of the year solo
I’m pretty much the same weight as you and needed nearly 340w average for my 44:02 PR last year 😮
Ouff, ok that’s a lot for me but not unobtainable. Maybe early summer.
Brilliant vid. Well done guys
Thank you 🙏🏻
Loved this! More please
Thank you man, trying to get more in asap
Something to think about 46.09 at 61 40min a real tough nut 😂😂
From what I understand- to go under 40mins it’s +5w/kg 🤯🥺🤮🤮
Your going to be puffing 🥵
4.24 for the 46
Nice work
Cheers man
To quote a youtuber with 200k subs he once said present the content don't be the content
Very much here for that. 👏🏻✌🏻
How on earth do you tether and drag each other up ???
You have to set up a group ride in the companion app then select ‘keep together’ choose road to sky, and invite your friends

Oh that what this is! I was wondering crazy how can you tether to someone at 15kmh 🙈🙈🙈
Nice thanks Sam, ok so I guess we’d both have to be going kinda hard to get us up but I still think we can do 40 with the right partner
Great content Max.. French capital is just a rude human
Also my goal for 2025 to go sub 40 😅 currently 6 minutes off so the 45 to beat first 😅
I’m going to go for a sub 45 in March after I finish my training block and before going ti Mallorca for a Saturday Calobra effort
Sub 40 !? Not likely to happen in my case. To old and heavy. My PR is 53 minutes and I would be over the moon if I managed to get under 50 minutes in 2025.
It’s easier if you do it with other people and tethered. I’ve managed 48 tethered and also solo. I want to try get down to 45 mins soli
How can people train/ride with big headphones covering the ears? 🥵
I hate it but its the only way i can hear my teammates over the bike and fans
Well, first they put the headphones over their ears. Then they start pedaling.
