I'm openly a pretty big fan of Spaceman. Their builds are always well thought out, gorgeous, and musical. The Explorer Deluxe is no exception. There are tons of classic phaser sounds, but there are countless ways to break outside of tradition as well. If you are a phaser junkie, definitely check this pedal out!
Bass used: Dingwall ABZ 6 string
Other effects: Boss OC-2, Spaceman Effects Titan II, Origin Effects Cali76 Compact Bass, Source Audio Aftershock, Moog MF-104M, EHX Hog 2, Eventide H9
Amazing vídeo
Can you test The Transmisser from Earthquaker devices?
Does it do the jet phaser thing? Im guessing no?
Great video. How do you like this one in compare to the Chase Bliss MKII? Price wise they are similar, but the Chase Bliss is way more feature full. Also, is it possible to change the phase stages from 6 to less stages like 4 or 2? Is rang for that purpose? I guess what I'm trying to understand is why would anyone buy this one instead of Chase Bliss MKII or Empress Phaser? Any unique characteristics? Cheers!
Thanks for the response man. Well I loved the Chase Bliss Womtone MKII, but I don't know to my ears, the sine wave setting (on both sides) had a kind of throb to it that I could not dial out. It was like one side of the
sine wave was shorter? The since wave was not exactly symmetrical I guess. The Empress as well sounded a bit too bright and I tried it with multiple amps. It seemed to be a bit overly scooped and changed the tone of my guitar too much. However it had some great features. I'm going to use the phaser to emulate that Tampura, Sitar drone thing in the background (low E as the drone for instance) but none of the phasers I tried left my original tone intact enough, or again the sine wave was not as smooth sounding as I wanted it to be. I'm wondering if this Explorer unit has an exactly symmetrical sine wave? Can you play some notes and chords with slow to medium speed and make a demo please? Cheers,
Also, does Explorer change the guitar tone too much? I did not think so based on this video. It sounded very similar to Chase Bliss WT MKII in fact with perhaps a little bit more clarity and definition.
Maybe I missed it, but did you try out the SQUARE shape at all in this video? Otherwise, this is a great clip! Thanks so much for sharing!
Ahh. Thank You! I want more! haha. So when the effect is on waveshape the expression pedal controls the speed, right? That's badass!
How would you compare this to the lunar phaser from source audio? I'm a fan of source audio gear, with a manta filter on my board and considering the aftershock (both of which I blame on you haha). This seems a little smother tonally but I'm curious to know your thoughts. Also, any plans to demo the somewhat new ventris pedal?
Zachary Rizer I will definitely be keeping a lookout for it then! I wasn't sure if you had since you've had a few of their pedals on your board throughout your videos. All in all though, awesome work as always!
How do you think this compares to the Apollo ii and the mobius phaser?
thank you!
The Mobius does have wave shape options. Start with params and go to wavshp you will find sine, square, ramp, saw, and tri.
Comparing with the obne visitor/ mondegrande
Wish you would just do the pedal itself not add all the extra effects unless those are included with the pedal. The pedal itself seems nice though wish the bass was deeper on it but for guitar it sounds epic
Did you use the compressor before or after the Explorer?
BTW I have this pedal now. It's a very, very lush and juicy phaser. And as you demonstrate, combines very will with fuzz, envelope follower, and octaver.
