To be fair I hated Alfred for a lot of the series as well, only in hindsight can I see how good of a character he was.
There's a channel called Zurik 23M that has done a really good Alfred edit video from this show. It does a great job of showing that Alfred was always doing what he thought was right for the kingdom. Little bits and pieces from different episodes that didn't mean much at the time of watching but put together it hits a lot harder
Something happened to Uthred this season where I thought I knew goddamn well they're not gonna make an issue out of this bullshit. And it ended up being the crux of the whole season.
